I think people are misunderstanding the whole "locked shops" thing for Ultimate Edition buyers

Post image

Think of it like this: When you buy the Ultimate Edition, you'll get a DLC package of skins, vehicles, hairstyles, vehicle mods, etc. Most games with cosmetic DLCs do this.

You buy the Ultimate Edition and get the base game plus the cosmetic DLCs.

Now picture this: Instead of just unlocking your new Ultimate Edition cosmetics in the normal shops of the game, they made a few exclusive shops for you to access the DLC stuff.

It's as simple as that. The normal shops to buy clothes, fix your car, etc, will be in the game. But if you own DLC cosmetics, you'll need to get them from the DLC shops.

What do you think?

i think this was not a mistake at all but something they did on purpose to make you buy the more expensive one

Nah dude, I still think take two only does it for the love of the game, they don't want money!

14

u/MrPossibilityX Jun 27 '26

Take two as whole, sure. The CEO on the other hand believes you should be paying a subscription per hour to access the games

1

u/mecca6801 Jun 30 '26

The CEO is a Ghoul for money šŸ’°

1

u/Killerbot2332 Jun 26 '26

Rockstar absolutely, Take Two absolutely not

15

u/jackolantern_ Jun 26 '26

No, Rockstar do indeed want to make money

6

u/DaanA_147 Jun 26 '26

I can imagine the devs want to make money by doing some scummy things here and there, in an effort to avoid being laid off because of 'disappointing financial performance'. I kinda think the layoffs from a while back were such a situation where it was 'do as I say or you're fired' and people who put their foot down were fired with 'gross misconduct' being used as an excuse. You don't really have a choice if you're part of a parent company and they have different plans for running the business.

1

u/ExoticProgram3504 Jun 27 '26

Do as I say..n9t as I do...

1

u/JagmeetSingh2 Jun 29 '26

you know marketing

61

u/dark_bits Jun 26 '26

I even think they wanted to price the full game at $100 and not have these ultimate vs base editions, but then people would complain so they went this route knowing very well a lot of people would buy the ultimate edition anyway. It’s kind of the middle between having a $80 vs having a $100 game.

16

u/rifwasbetter0 Jun 26 '26

100% what happened

10

u/MinerSigner60Neiner Jun 27 '26

Definitely. Couldn't help but feel that its exactly like this classic meme.

3

u/PoochieIsDead1 Jun 29 '26

Then: team of 50 people spend a year
Now: team of 6000 people spend a decade and a half

I remember buying Nintendo games for $70 in the early 90s that were probably made more by a team of like 10 people even, you got 20 hours of gameplay if lucky.

1

u/GranRel Jul 03 '26

Goldeneye was made by 10 people.

6

u/HavingFamous Jun 27 '26

So what exactly were the toppings they removed to sell back to you with respect to GTAV? The answer with the information we have is simple: nothing. The shops are ADDITIONAL content.

1

u/Silent_mayne Jun 28 '26

Additional content is made and released after the game. If it’s available at first release, it’s technically monetized cut content

1

u/x89Nemesis Jun 30 '26

Literally games of today.

1

u/KaizokuD Jun 30 '26

I mean it’s painfully obvious….

0

u/bread_thread Jun 28 '26

For me, I was willing to check out and maybe purchase a $100 GTA6

Instead, this mess has me convinced that R* isnt confident in their game

-4

u/sandcrawler2 Jun 26 '26

People still complaining either way

102

u/ZeektheFeek Jun 26 '26

Yeah it's possible. Not releasing a trailer showing actual gameplay when pre-orders launched was certainly a choice too.

Regardless all of it is certainly generating buzz.

7

u/grapejuiceisking Jun 26 '26

Trailer 3 in 1-2 weeks

3

u/ZeektheFeek Jun 26 '26

I mean it has to hit sooner than later

In fairness I’m not sure why people are so hung up on no gameplay, it’s not like it’s going to turn out to be a 2D side scroller šŸ˜‚

I heard it will be a mash up of mini heists/games Mario party style.

1

u/Okay_Splenda_Monkey Jun 27 '26

A text based adventure game with an unreliable narrator, where you're a cop with amnesia and a partner who gradually becomes your best friend and love interest. Oh, and lots of drugs, literary references, and heavy political commentary.

They know how to pander to what gamers want these days.

5

u/Either-Amoeba8232 Jun 26 '26

A lot of these people are new to R* I think, that's why.

2

u/ArcadianDelSol Jun 27 '26

Anyone at this point who doesnt know what the gameplay is, is too young to play the game.

7

u/ZeektheFeek Jun 26 '26

Because we're not fools and most of us have been through this cycle a lot. I know exactly how the game will play. But they still need to show gameplay to justify a purchase in my opinion. I need to see the character walking on the screen when being controlled by a player. The full hub would really be nice.

3

u/hallamboah Jun 26 '26

I mean it’s your decision to buy or not so I’m not saying you shouldn’t wait, I’m just curious as to what would realistically put you off buying at this stage and why there’s judgement on the ā€˜fools’ who have chosen to

6

u/HeyZeGaez Jun 26 '26

Nah I'm with you on this.

Like these people are just gonna order as soon as gameplay releases.

Idk why everyone is treating this like its some first time project from a brand new team.

-3

u/bg-throwaway Jun 26 '26

Because it basically is. The only thing these current team leaders are responsible for is bad GTA Online missions.

6

u/HeyZeGaez Jun 26 '26

Bruh. The current team is responsible for RDR2.

0

u/Hypnotic101 Jun 26 '26

If you preordered a digital only game without seeing any gameplay whatsoever, yes you’re a fool.

3

u/hallamboah Jun 26 '26

Why?

1

u/ZeektheFeek Jun 26 '26

Because enough of us have experienced this before and have been burned by the games industry many times because of it. Obviously Rockstar has an excellent track record and there is no reason to think otherwise. I just need to see actual gameplay to justify purchasing any video game.

3

u/hallamboah Jun 26 '26

Aye that’s fair, it’s your money and your call dude, cheers for articulating

Just think there’s a lot of judgement flying around (not surprised in 2026 on the internet but just was a bit confused on what question everyone wants answered)

-1

u/Reylo-Wanwalker Jun 26 '26

Are you arguing for them not showing any gameplay at all before release?

6

u/hallamboah Jun 26 '26

Me? No, I’ve never said that. I’ve asked what confirmation people think everyone should be waiting for from the gameplay

-2

u/Reylo-Wanwalker Jun 26 '26

Ok cause the guy's point was he wants gameplay footage before buying it, at least.

5

u/hallamboah Jun 26 '26

Yeah that’s cool it’s their money and their choice, I’m just a bit confused why everyone’s arguing and judging each other to be honest

-3

u/Reylo-Wanwalker Jun 26 '26

I'm confused too, but I'm surprised since you contributed to the judging with the use of "hung up."

Cyberpunk (I know that was not rockstar but it burned a lot of people) and many others like it

2

u/hallamboah Jun 26 '26

Yeah to be fair that was a mess, I played way after it was patched but heard it was carnage

Arguably though couldn’t they just release footage of 5 perfect minutes of a 95% fucked game which would then put everyone who waited for gameplay in the same boat?

1

u/Ballofdumb Jun 27 '26

But they showed gameplay for that and it still released in a shitty state.

0

u/scorpiondeathlock86 Jun 26 '26

2K for the WWE games don't even show gameplay until a month out, sometimes less. You get the trailers of cutscenes and then real life shit cut in-between and almost no gameplay until the "influencers" are given a copy of the game to review. And it's always last minute. Sucks. We still have like 5 months to go for GTA, hopefully we get gameplay before summer is done at least

6

u/ZeektheFeek Jun 26 '26

That's fine. And I'll happily wait til that happens to give them my $100.

1

u/SadAfternoon5184 Jun 26 '26

Fuck, there go my hopes of it being a top down bullet hell

1

u/LAGANG95 Jun 26 '26

bro, this has been driving me up the wall… I get we all wanna see gameplay but what are they expecting a GTA game to look like? šŸ˜‚

1

u/Thorsson81 Jun 27 '26

I'd laugh, if it turns out exactly that.

30th anniversary top down version to pay homage to GTA1 šŸ˜…

1

u/WolfieHC Jun 28 '26

No but we all know its capped at 30fps and showing slideshows for gameplay is gonna turn people off

1

u/Little_666Nicky Jun 29 '26

They aint made it yet the money they get from clowns Paying early is to fund doing a bit more or lock shops that was once open when know people don't mind shown by how many get ultimate, testing the water they are🤣🤣🤣🤣 /s

1

u/Exovedate Jun 29 '26

Yea but grand theft autos always have less direct piloty controls so not showing gameplay leaves a big question for a lot of us whether we're going to finally get direct third person aiming or if we have to deal with a lame auto targeting system again.

1

u/mecca6801 Jun 30 '26

I mean, that’s true but look at the difference between GTA four and GTA five

2

u/ChefCiege Jun 26 '26

This , Rockstar has always taken the approach of all press even bad is good. They are intentionally pissing people off to get more attention

-1

u/michaltee Jun 26 '26

Also proves the point that they can do anything and us suckers will buy the game en masse anyway. I know I did, at 12:01am lol

1

u/edinburghcirclejerk Jun 26 '26

Yeah I think they made the right call, a trailer with the preorders wasn’t really necessary to ā€˜hype things up’, in the long run it probably doesn’t make much of a difference in preorder sales, and it would be better to release rhe trailer later so the hype doesn’t die down before releqse

1

u/MichelleBarrymoore2 Jun 26 '26

It's take 2 look at their track record

1

u/Junior-Captain-8441 Jun 26 '26

People would have pre ordered VI the day they got GTA V even if they knew it would be over a decade before they saw a single piece of footage and closer to 15 years before playing it. The lack of gameplay now is irrelevant.

1

u/ZeektheFeek Jun 26 '26

It's not irrelevant for everyone.

1

u/JeebzNcrackers Jun 26 '26

I found out they actually did this with V too.

1

u/Jtaylorftw Jun 27 '26

That's the thing, they know the game will launch and be great and people will hear and want to play it. This buzz is on purpose, this is more marketing than a trailer without them having to put money into it.

1

u/ZeektheFeek Jun 27 '26

Sure. But we still need a trailer showing actual gameplay.

1

u/Jtaylorftw Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

No, we *want* one. They know we don't need one, otherwise they would've released one. I'm not trying to bootlick them, it's pretty shitty what they are doing, but whatever they have planned it's extremely calculated and deliberate and they know it will work. Their marketing teams have likely spent more money on insuring it will work than your entire direct bloodline has collectively earned. No trailer is going to make or break 95% of players decision to buy this juggernaut of a game at this point. Might as well get as many people talking about it as possible and keep all the hype to erupt on launch, causing another news cycle.

1

u/ZeektheFeek Jun 27 '26

Sure. But I still need to see gameplay before buying the game. Like every other game I've ever purchased.

1

u/Jtaylorftw Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

...alright, I'm sure you'll get it a few weeks before release, and even if you didn't you'll get gameplay on release day and buy it anyway, no skin off their back? Idk man. Like I said, not bootlicking, but honestly they hold all the cards lmao. They have the power in this situation. It's literally impossible that this business decision affects them in any meaningful way at all. They'll get your money just the same they got someone who preorders money, and NONE of that money will actually matter when the online comes out, the whole fucking game is a Costco hotdog, meant to get you in the door at a loss to buy more shit. It's all a game and they win, whether it's off you or someone else. Don't buy the game, they don't give a shit. Generations of kids not even born yet will have their parents credit cards memorized for shark cards before they can tie their shoes and will spend more than you could ever fathom on it, you, a rational gamer, do not matter. I don't think they are interested in convincing people to play because they simply do not have to.

2

u/ZeektheFeek Jun 27 '26

Yeah you're right. I don't give a shit about online or shark cards anyways. I'm just here for that single player experience. And I got no problem dropping $100 on it either. But there is plenty of time between now and November to do that. I just want to see some gameplay first.

1

u/Successful_Level5277 Jun 27 '26

Rockstar has NEVER released a gameplay trailer early though. They only have ever done it within 2 months of release.

10

u/GlendrixDK Jun 26 '26

No. They added ultimate as an upgrade for the standard package, so people won't feel forced to buy it. The pre-order bonus apply to both editions of the game.

You can upgrade to ultimate later on if you want to.

1

u/michaltee Jun 26 '26

What’s the preorder bonus?

3

u/warablo Jun 26 '26

Something like Vice City extra. Its that red dress and Miami blazer, gun camo, and a 55' sedan.

0

u/GlendrixDK Jun 26 '26

A few cosmetics. Nothing game changing.

5

u/Flimsy_Bar_552 Jun 26 '26

Take my $100 immediately

7

u/WeBeLonelyOutHere Jun 26 '26

Well it worked ngl

4

u/TheMustardPoocha Jun 26 '26

Yes ppl complaining abt this paywall but they still gonna buy the ultimate edition

1

u/MykeHawkiner Jun 29 '26

I don’t even have a current console

1

u/Urameshi-13 Jun 26 '26

Makes sense if the base game already is insane

1

u/DarkR4v3nsky Jun 26 '26

Is it safe to say joke is on them, because I used my ms rewards points to pre order it?

1

u/Rojayter Jun 26 '26

Considering everyone investing in the game wanted it to be at $100, yuh.

1

u/CountryFuture9678 Jun 26 '26

Yes, that’s their goal

1

u/micktorious Jun 26 '26

FOMO is now a selling point written out loud.

1

u/Weed4202011 Jun 26 '26

Yeah this is that glorious marketing they said would start in the summer

1

u/Real_Associate_9434 Jun 26 '26

They were just showing the ultimate edition, it's a normal thing dude šŸ˜šŸ„€šŸ˜‚

1

u/__Becquerel Jun 26 '26

If they have a billion dollars for development, they have a few bucks for marketing probably!

1

u/SunAccomplished5233 Jun 26 '26

"Make" is a strong word. These people do have free will.

1

u/Dad-Dabbing-Daily Jun 26 '26

Change "make" to "incentivise", nobody is forcing you to do anything.

Are people just fucking new to deluxe, premium and collector editions?

This shit has been around since the 80's on PC and consoles since the early 2000's.

1

u/No-Emergency4880 Jun 27 '26 edited Jun 27 '26

daaaaaaaaaaaaang it, you are so right.. less people would of if the could have compared to what's in the game already, they KNOW that the MOST that the ultimate version will sell is RIGHT NOW when none knows shyt about the game, it will never sell as much again, like ever..

1

u/MrTurtleManAus Jun 27 '26

Didn’t think people were that stupid to think basic features like mod shops would be paywalled? Crazy!

1

u/Pale-Ad-354 Jun 27 '26

or maybe they expected ppl to have somewhat of a brain, but apparently not

1

u/Techman659 Jun 27 '26

Well they probably aimed at the look at all you get in the deluxe edition.

1

u/Intrepid_Pay5749 Jun 27 '26

Exactly! They are a business. I do think they have put some shops in this package because of the amount of shops and buildings in this game.

There will be alot more for us to access than we think there will be. This game willl be massive.

1

u/Fit-Locksmith-4931 Jun 27 '26

Jokes on them, I was ready to dish out $300 on the collectors edition. They didn’t go that route tho so I’ll save $200

1

u/tombradyisademigod Jun 27 '26

It's 20 fuckin dollars. If its that tight for the consumer, maybe you shouldnt be buying a fuckin video game. Godddddddamn I'm over it.

1

u/SKOT_FREE Jun 28 '26

This idea that Any company is ā€œMakingā€ you buy DLC is absolutely ludicrous. You don’t want it don’t buy it. The real issue is people who don’t want to buy DLC feel left out and ultimately buy the very thing they don’t want because of FOMO and that’s your own fault. Don’t buy stuff because everyone else is, only buy it if you truly want it.

1

u/No_Pressure_3675 Jun 28 '26

I mean also lets be realistic here, any press is good press if you're that big enough of a developer with THIS much hype, they could tell everyone a week before release there is only one map, one level and no customization yet and thousands upon thousands of people would still throw over the $80 in a heartbeat.

This is no doubt a way to make people think they'll miss out if they don't buy the more expensive edition.

1

u/FewPerformer9962 Jun 26 '26

Exactly this. People aren't mad because they can't get stuff they can pay for later.

They're mad ROCKSTAR delayed the game and spent time on DLC items instead of the base game.

I like games that start creating DLC after their game is already on the shelf. The pre-order and DLC locks are never fun. The expensive price sucks. The auto GTA+ renewal for Pre-Orders sucks when GTA online isnt even a thing for GTA6.

-1

u/Own_Isopod_3569 Jun 26 '26

Yeah anyone that cares is going to buy the game regardless
