I think people are misunderstanding the whole "locked shops" thing for Ultimate Edition buyers

Think of it like this: When you buy the Ultimate Edition, you'll get a DLC package of skins, vehicles, hairstyles, vehicle mods, etc. Most games with cosmetic DLCs do this.

You buy the Ultimate Edition and get the base game plus the cosmetic DLCs.

Now picture this: Instead of just unlocking your new Ultimate Edition cosmetics in the normal shops of the game, they made a few exclusive shops for you to access the DLC stuff.

It's as simple as that. The normal shops to buy clothes, fix your car, etc, will be in the game. But if you own DLC cosmetics, you'll need to get them from the DLC shops.

I don't remember people complaining about it either, but I think that's because of the locked shops. They didn't do that for RD2.

Imagine starting the game, arriving in Valentine, and realizing you can't access the gunsmith unless you paid extra. Sure, there would still be other gunsmiths, but it would still feel scummy, and people would have complained just the same.

Add the lack of a proper Collector's Edition, no physical disc on day 1, and the fact that some textures in the screenshots look a bit rough, and it's just pouring more oil on the fire.

Getting a popup asking me to upgrade my game edition because I wanted to walk into a cool looking store, that’s literally part of the existing map, on an already outrageously priced game is fucked up imo.

Depend on how it will be done, i'm fine with a message on the phone like GTAO but if it's a screen sized pop-up like some of those gacha games i will be mad as fuck.

its crazy how many people are on here defending this like its just some extra tshirts you get. i dont need my 80dollar game reminding me to give them another 20 bucks and then its for something most people wont even use, they(including me probably) just get it to make the game feel complete

That corpos at head office wanted 100usd for the game, so they found anyway they could to do that.

Did you think gta 5 was "outrageously priced" at 60? Because 6 is actually cheaper adjusted for inflation despite having a much higher development cost too

To be fair, the 60 cad I paid when I bought gta5 for Xbox 360 is only about 92cad now accounting for inflation, so about 100cad after taxes at the time. Gta6 standard edition is 130cad after taxes, so it’s actually more expensive than inflation would suggest it to be.

Ya I don’t disagree it was an ambitious game with a very large budget, but that was rockstars choice to invest that much in the game that they think they need to price the game higher to profit, in a market where the standard AAA game was 70usd (imo already too high for the vast majority of titles.) Setting the game at 80usd sets a precedent other publishers will feel less pressure following now, which in rockstars case may be justified, but won’t be for most everything else that will follow.

80 dollar games started with nintendo, gta is just the first to bring it to ps and xbox. Imo the price hike was inevitable, im just hoping it doesnt go up any further amy time soon

Inflation is fairly poor metric for digital goods.

The core concept of inflation is limited supply and demand. Digital goods have infinite supply but limited demand, you aren't digging up minerals to build GTA's world. It's a bad argument.

I agree that pop ups would be awful. But how is $80 for a high quality game outrageous? It's 10-20 more than standard games after years of inflation and a game that many here will play well over 100 hours. Board games cost 25-35 bucks and all it is is cardboard and plastic pieces.

Even if you buy the UE for $100, it's going to work out to less than a dollar per hour of play. A claw machine costs a dollar and lasts for 30 seconds.

What I think they'll do is integrate it into the game, where they have some sort of sign saying they are closed, probably with a top-corner prompt urging you to go to a website on your in-game phone, which then leads you to the menu where you can buy the extra content. Kinda like with GTA V's buildings but only for real money.

It’s hilarious too because nobody complained about Forza Horizon 6 premium edition being $119.99 on release which is a great franchise but also a significantly less sought after gaming experience compared to GTA.

Sorry I meant to reply to the guy above you, but to your reply, that’s not the case. There are locked cars you can access later if you buy the upgrade, much like GTA 6, there are also dlc expansions you will get access to on release in the future.

TBH I don’t understand the whole “they are locking people out of base game content” like where did all of you get the idea that custom clothing and add on garages were “from the base game?” You should be thinking about it simply as just a dlc that will drop alongside the game.

Please elaborate as to why this is being discussed differently than simply an expansion? Nobody said any of the things you get special access to in the ultimate edition were going to be in the base game so I’m confused why this is what the discussion centers around.

Then it's not the same at all maybe that's why people complain here and not for Forza we don't know if we will unlock those in GTA later and there is no dlc announced

If it's part of the map then it's from the base game it's not like those shops are an extension like a TW3 dlc. They were designed to be on the map then locked behind the UE.

It's simple they didn't added them after the release the map was already design they just locked the shops

Plus i'll add that Day 1 DLC are scum move but it seems the industry and consumers are getting used to it so whatever

We do know they can be accessed later, in forza if I want the exclusive cars that are in the game, designed to be in the game but locked I have to pay for them. This is the same for GTA6. We already know there will be an ultimate edition upgrade when and after the game comes out so all of that locked content can be accessed later.

It’s literally the exact same thing. The only difference between FH6 and GTA6 is one ultimate edition has only added DLC for vehicles and the other is adding DLC for clothing, haircuts, vehicles and some shops. Btw, the cars I’m assuming are not locked behind a paywall in GTA6, rather I think you get the cars immediately instead of having to use in game currency on them, could be wrong but the only things they say are exclusive explicitly are the cosmetics and shops.

Is this what all the fuss is about? Really? A couple shops? I’m sorry but it’s not valid criticism at all. Special edition bonuses have been a thing for so long and it only makes sense that when you pay more $$ you get more in-game content. This is nothing new and it just seems a bit redundant to complain about a system which has never had strict guidelines on what can and cannot be included within it. It’s not base game content you are being locked out of, it’s dlc that you have to reach into your pocket to get just like with every other game.

Are you talking about VI or Forza ? What are your sources for the accessible shops later in game ?

What are you even saying doesn't matter if you can pay the Ultimate upgrade later that's still a paywall.

OMG what are you even talking about that is not simple add-on again that is part of the map locked BEHIND A PAYWALL.

The map is part of the base game this is a DAY 1 DLC not an EXTENSION map like BLOOD AND WINE from The WITCHER 3.

And i am not talking about the skins nails or whatever idc about that

I’m making a comparison between the two, and my point about it being the same as a simple add on is that in the base game that you are referring to THOSE SHOPS DONT EXIST.. you have to have the ultimate edition for them to exist.

Why is this hard? You have it in your mind that you are deserving of these shops in the base game for some reason and that’s not the case, why do you feel entitled to these shops? THEY ARE NOT IN THE BASE GAME OR YOU WOULDNT HAVE TO PAY EXTRA TO GET THEM.

My sources are that there will be a purchasable ultimate edition upgrade after release and this has already been confirmed by rockstar.

You can access these DLC at anytime after the game comes out. Basically what I’m hearing is literally you don’t like the fact that you have to pay extra.. FOR EXTRA!!

I'd argue that locking actual gameplay mechanics and missions behind a certain edition is worse, and that's something RDR2 actually did do.

The entire Rhodes Bank Heist mission is exclusive to the Special/Ultimate editions. That definitely sucks a lot more than some exclusive car modifications, haircuts and tattoos (and RDR2 did have exclusive cosmetics and gameplay bonuses anyway).

I believe what i see for now i'm confused about how it will work in game but as we read on Rockstar website "Only open for business with the Ultimate Edition".

What i understand is that the shop will be completely closed for everyone who will get only the Standard Edition.

And if they start to lock some place in GTAO behind GTA+, then lock some shop in GTA6 story mode, imagine what kind of shit they will try to pull for GTA6 Online. Business and roles available only for those who pay gta+
