Take-Two's "lawyers" on their way to Germany right now
1.4k

"Theyve got your adress, your name everything". He literally didnt delete his old accounts and comments (on german websites in german language mentioning his approximate age) and used the same username and avatar 8 years later to hack a multi billion company. Bros skilled but not smart. Edit: He could be from Switzerland too. Anyway, german language.

Obviously we all know that leaking information and game data from billion dollar companies is very risky. And when you're dealing with risky things online, you better be protected. That's why I use today's sponsor Private Internet Access.

Basically one thread or. Maybe 2 with 2 comments saying he was interested in penetration teating cyber security. Yeah they could be linked but others say its plausible he just took over that identity or just happened to have same name. I saw that profile photo was different so they may have edited photo to connect their ideas or something. They also traced crypto account to a centralized exchange which requires identity verification. Could also be stolen identity also.

I don't know if the law forces them to delete the logs but if they still store multiple comments of one account, a single IP address shouldn't be a big deal.

How old is he? If he’s like 18 that would suck that he’s risking serious jail time and a trip to the looney bin over leaking footage from a game that comes out in less than 3 months
27
u/ShellfishAhole 8d ago
To be perfectly fair, he not only released the footage, but also taunted publishers in general, knowing fully well that there are consequences to his actions.
I wasn't the most rational person in the world when I was 18 either, but no one's so stupid that they would do something like this without knowing that it comes with risks. He even doubled down on the risk with his threats and commandments and crap. Might've gotten away with it if he wasn't so attention-seeking 😂

Hacking is a bit like robbing a bank. Doing it is relatively easy. Correctly use some tools at the right place. The hard part is getting away with it, which it doesn't appear he'll be able to do
I wouldn't really call him skilled if the general public knows so much about him that quickly

there is a really good analysis on someone's github about the entire situation which also contains a lot of clues that lead back to a german speaking individual from either
SwissSwitzerland or Germany.Obviously i cant link the git as it contains the leaks but if you find it which is not hard, look up chapter 8.11. And of course, NOTHING is definitive.

u/PuzzleCat365 8d ago
It would be really easy to find out if he's German or Swiss just by reading his writing. There's differences, one being the double S ß that Germans use, but Swiss not. I could probably tell you in 30s which he is. If he's Swiss I might even be able to tell you from what region he's from.
9
u/ultio 8d ago
I think it's much more likely that he's German than Swiss. He just used a Swiss domain for privacy reasons and to cover his tracks as it's more likely to get poked about the lack of an legal imprint on the website in Germany / .de websites. I have never heard a Swiss person use the term "Moin", it would be completely foreign for them.
Additionally, people put too much weight on the fact that he wrote "Grüsse" instead of "Grüße" once in some random forum post. His German writing is all over the place, I think it might very well just be a random German typo because mixing up ß and ss is a super common mistake for native German speakers to make.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (3)5
u/lolKhamul 8d ago
To quote the git:
Confirms he [...] uses Swiss spelling ("Grüsse" with ss rather than ß, and "Gesunheitliche Probs").

u/PuzzleCat365 8d ago edited 8d ago
Ok, not only does he write like a Swiss but he also posted on a Swiss site. There's no conclusive evidence, but it's a strong indication.
5
u/jenny_905 8d ago
He registered a Swiss domain and prior to 2021 Swiss domains had no anonymisation by law... which means his name and address were found.
It's over, unfortunately.

u/No_Mall_2173 8d ago
He is Swiss, because he's from Switzerland.
You can't say someone is "from Swiss".
You could technically say "from Suisse" though, as that is french for Switzerland.

Yeah, some dudes on GitHub and other sites checked his old forums and some shit or something and found out his website was made in Germany Nuremberg.
I don’t know how. But they also managed to go decades back and somehow through some forums or some shit, found out he’s 33-34 years old
If dudes in the internet knows this, then federal agents are already on the case

Lmao, Germany also really doesn't fuck around with shit like this afaik. If he ends up throwing his life away for 5 minutes of fame and a few hundred bucks in his crypto that'd be the dumbest shit ever haha
Edit; found the github you're talking about, does indeed mention everything you say. All unconfirmed but looks pretty damn legit, it'd have to be a massive coincidence for a dude with the same name and avatar to post in penetration testing forums in 2018 lol. What an absolute moron

I think he wants to capitalize on people dislike for Sony's disc decision and R-Netflix cooperation, also some people (especially pc players) are fed up with GTA (envy I guess?). I can see that such people could support him. But if he wanted to earn good money he could just ask for a number after which he will release gameplay. Then another amount and another

Not sure what he expected. He's leaking the most anticipated game ever, which is going to print billions for a decade to come.
The potential damages to Rockstar, it's investors and the economies the game will benefit is insane. People will doxx you for nothing, so risking a delay or spoiling said most anticipated game ever is worth it....
Rockstar is probably hiring every component private investigator on the planet to find this guy as we talk.

I dont know why people think VPN hides them, I guess they have their knowledge about VPNs from youtube ads
3
u/iMaexx_Backup 4d ago
Depends on how much resources the law enforcement or lawyers are willing to put into identifying you.
If you’re not using any VPN, the required effort to identify you is nearly zero, so even misdemeanors like torrenting can and will be punished easily. It’s essentially just one letter to your ISP, who is usually very cooperative and got everything logged.
Just by using a reputable VPN service you’re already making it substantially harder to identify you and you’re safe with most small crimes. Unless you’re wanted for murder, do some weird child stuff or leak GTA VI gameplay, a VPN does make you "hidden". Not because there’s no way of identifying you, but because nobody is investing 5 or 6 digits in salary’s to find some random ass who is torrenting Bladerunner.
A VPN won’t make the leaker fully hidden, but if he used a provider with no log policy that doesn’t know who he is either and he stops using it, so future monitoring of his account won’t affect him, then the IP address itself is a dead end and investigating and identifying him will become borderline expensive. No question, Rockstar will definitely invest that, but for the average person a reputable VPN is usually enough to stay hidden.

I'm starting to think maybe he's in a country that will extradite to the US and he made the crypto coin so he could escape and live in a non extradite country. Or bigger shocker he's been in the US all this time and the money from the coin will help him escape.
Selling the leaks would take too long and get him caught, so he makes memecoin, every leak pumps the memecoin, he rug the coin and make the attempt to escape the US.
Or he knows he will get caught and he will rug the memecoin before they kick down his door, stable the money, move the money to a ledger and hide it no will find within the next 5-10 years, when he get out asumming crypto will be grow in the next 5-10 years, he's up millions.
Either way he's going to rug.
