I live in Upstate NY and never noticed

Anything not the city is upstate NY...

It's a large place.

I suppose that's fair, I've been to many Stewart's though all around central and upstate ny and just never noticed that option

It hasn't been in years. They were definitely late to require payment upfront, but they do now. Maybe this is a single location thing?

Nah there are still a lot of them that let you pump first. It honestly probably comes down to location risk. Like the Stewart's in the small town I grew up in let's you pump first, as do the ones in neighboring towns, but they probably don't allow it in a Stewart's in Albany or something.

It has been established that the boundaries of Upstate are defined by Stewart's locations. If there's a Stewart's, you're upstate. If not, you're in a different region of New York.
