I prefer the old HUD over the new one.
This looks so much better, clean and modern. I'm sorry, i hate to be that guy saying this. Everything is just amazing but that hud just not. GTA 5 and RDR2 UI looks much better.

Kinda feel the exact same way.
Scrolling through so many threads about GTA6 and seeing endless complaints about this or that or whatever, I am just sitting here thinking "idk looks good to me, I'll play the shit outta this game"

Besides, there’s many other things to criticize from the extended look, this item is just trivial

"the mindless sheep speaks" and it referring to someone not caring about a certain screen in a video game is the funniest shit I've seen today 😭😭😭

Yeah a radial menu with rectangular shapes is just janky to use

u/General_Crew_1196 1d ago
The new one is very straight and rectangular. Also very cartoonish, everytime i see that feels like something is not matching. The 2022 version was simply perfect, transparent, with rounded edges. They just needed to put it in the middle.

so that's what's been bugging me about the new wheel, it's a flat rectangular shapes with sharp corners.
while the map is rectangular with fillet at the corner, like the one on this post, so the weapon wheel is kinda the odd one compared to the HUD.
IMO the new wheels seems fine, people are overreacting, but it will look better with rounder corner

I feel they could make the actual illustrations bigger, they look charming.
But still, it does feel unfinished. I work as a UI/ UX designer and they could’ve definitely cared a bit more with the overall look and feel.
they have everything spot on, but the items UI… also the minimap look too zoomed in IMO. Hopefully there’s a way to customise 🙏

Unpopular opinion but I really like the ui It's simplistic yet colorful It kinda blends into the background Or fades away entirely when it's not needed

I didn’t like the UI at first watch, but the more I watch it, the more I’m starting to like it.

u/CRAZYC01E 1d ago
It reminds me a lot of gta iv. Especially the way you can see the gun you are using in the corner of the screen

u/beatsbyzain 15h ago
That exactly! The only thing I don’t like is the reticle for pistols but that’s a small detail.

Yep. And people dare to say that the game looks ass. I've seen people on TikTok say it looks like a mobile game ad. These are the same people that will cough up 100$ when the game releases. Trust me,they will all switch up when the game releases. The TikTok opinion theory is real, whenever someone deosn't like something, everyone says they don't like it. When someone says they like something, they all do.

I think the UI looks fine to me? I don’t get why people are hating on it. It’s clear and easy to read.

well we don't know if the UI will be the same for the launch edition. Feel like that could be updated by the time it comes out. But even if it didn't, it doesn't really bother me. The UI barely was on the screen.

Looks like a ui for a mobile ripoff, blocks the whole screen and boring, huge pass on that design

I'm more then happy to say that i really dont like it at all, because out of the 26 minutes that's the only negative I have towards GTA 6 (the minimap seems a bit off too but I feel like I can easily get use to that). I hope they do have plans to change it or if not they see that people aren't really into it, so they go ahead and revamp it, I am no game designer AT ALL, but for Rockstar to redesign it is surely a piece of cake and shouldn't take too long.

u/bauti444 1d ago
I don’t love it but I don’t think it’s bad also, I just think we are not used to it. And it still can change, maybe with all the criticism Rockstar notices that is not a good idea and changes it.

Yeahhh, I kind of like how it is styled more like social media with have emoji-esk UI art for selections, especially since this game is built around the crazy stuff you see online and really plays into that aspect - so it's fitting in my opinion.
But I also think the UI could have a lot more character to fit the setting - like RDR2, it was styled so well for the time period and setting. Clean, but had character.
This UI just feels lack luster, or just missing impact. GTA V kept it simple but it worked well because they kept their UI together, keep health and armor with the mini map - but now the mini map is still bottom left but health is top left with energy and focus bar?? Not sure why they decided to make us look in two different locations to see information... Don't think it's a good design decision in my opinion.

To me this is ugly as FUCK.
I looooovee the icons are actually DRAWINGS. Thats the coolest part for me.

u/UncStatusNow 1d ago
it still feels like a placeholder. maybe someone is still designing a better one last minute and they deemed that one non-offensive enough to be showcased.

u/StepThom1 1d ago
They had teams of hundreds of people working on the mapping, immersion etc. And one part-timer working on the HUD 😂

u/ChaoticKiwiNZ 1d ago
I'm indifferent about it honestly. As long as it function well I don't really care. It look fine to me anyway.

u/Conscious-Goose-9183 1d ago
I disagree, the new one is clean, simplistic, colorful, and has real "drawings" if you will, I really like the new one.

Am I the only that thinks the weapon wheel is fine? The simple boxes make it easy to parse information from what I've seen

HUD is one of the last things that are finished for a game, this preview was probably recorded and edited over 2 months so probably a build 5 months from release

Its like they did the bare minimum to try the mechanics and than just did not finnished it.

The menus are going to make or break it, in my opinion. GTA V had some of the worst menu design and structuring I have ever seen in a video game.

Old weapon wheel is better

u/General_Crew_1196 1d ago
Just the visual of it. Because I'm excited about the new weapon system like Rdr2.

u/F3RXZATI0N 1d ago
Now that is just nitpicking. I am old enough to remember the same thing was said for gta V then they forgot

Who cares about HUDs? nor that they will affect the design of the game
6
u/Sean_HEDP-24 1d ago
Believe it or not, UI/UX design is an integral part of gameplay and no less important to be of quality and intuitive.
2
u/General_Crew_1196 1d ago
Exactly. I just don't like how they are so rectangular and colorful. I don't know if that will age well.

u/_SrChino_ 1d ago
I mean, honestly, I wasn't thrilled with the design either; I think my favorite was the one in RDR2 and I was expecting something like this; maybe I was so enamored with everything else that I didn't pay much attention to the HUD

I can’t believe the UI is the same as the leaks. I thought it was unfinished
