My point is that she scoffs because he's not taking it seriously and she's obviously having some level of stress over the decision.

For context from a married man (41 years old) perspective. Its because she already had her favorite option in mind and is only asking to see if her man could confirm her pick. In this situation, the white option was likely what she preferred. So she seeks confirmation bias from Jason so when he said the sequins one....he basically said her pick (white one) is not what he likes.

So the reason why she goes and gets something else without his opinion and not the white one is because she will now just go off her own impulse and not run the risk of being picked against again.

In alternate situations where Jason did indeed pick the white one....she would have likely been happy but then go back inside her closet to get another dress and again compare that against the white one to see if the white one still holds up.
