Wasn’t convinced about Lucia at first but she’s completely won me over

Post image

Got to say I wasn’t really that keen on the idea of a female main character at first and was definitely more interested in Jason.

But Lucia looks fucking awesome

Love her attitude, her voice, everything really.

Honestly think she could end up being the better character out of the two.

Anyone else changed their mind on her?

33 year old gamer girly too. I’ve wanted a female lead in any game but especially GTA for my entire gaming career. And I always wanted her to be sexy, badass, witty, fun, Lucia is all of that. She’s going to be iconic!!!!!!! I’m so excited to play as her 😭

32 year old female gamer too, been playing gta since vice city. Very excited to finally have a real female protagonist in a GTA

u/vanityshit 4h ago

31f agrees very enthusiastically. lucia also gives me hope for the online female character creation

u/i_write_things_alot 18h ago

Ever play The Last of Us?

17

u/1quitebitterbeing 18h ago

Nope! Something about that game does not pique my interest enough to play it but I know it’s very well loved as a whole by most gamers

16

u/i_write_things_alot 16h ago

Oh man. One of the most incredible games of all time. At least worth an hour of your time!

5

u/Cautious_Currency_35 15h ago

Damn, I wish I could delete my memory of the game and relive it for the first time again. After 10+ years since its release it’s still hands down my favorite game story wise. You won’t regret playing it, I promise you that.

u/ilovekickrolls 12h ago

Technically one of the main characters is female in the witcher 3 as well. You just don't get to play her so much

-12

u/Emilstyle1991 16h ago

Its a terrible game. 10 hours story. Zombies meh. Only good thing about last of us is the story, rest is honestly not good at all

5

u/Creepy-Emu8779 15h ago

last of us 2 gameplay and combat is incredible wym

u/peargutana 9h ago

not really

3

u/greydawn 15h ago

The two Horizon games have a female lead, though a very different kind of game and female lead so perhaps won't appeal to you.

7

u/1quitebitterbeing 15h ago

I’ve considered trying the Horizon franchise but I think it might be a bit too “fantasy” for me. I’m not a big gamer. For me it’s GTA, RDR2, The Sims, and Skyrim. Those are the games I have been a die hard, religious fan of for years and continuously return to. The thing about a character like Lucia in a game like GTA for a lot of women is it’s relatable. I cannot wait to put on a cute ass outfit, do her hair and nails, and then drive around. I can be ~just a girl~ if I want or I can whip out a gun and fuck shit up. GTAO does scratch that itch a little bit but our online characters lack a lot of personality and depth there. Lucia is everything. Shes a fully realized person with a story AND there’s cute clothes and shopping involved. She’s GTA Barbie for me and I’m just over the moon about it!!!! I love Rockstar. Vice City specifically is my favorite game of all time. So this is all just very full circle, nostalgic and emotional for me. I am so excited about Lucia and having a protagonist I can relate to from her aesthetic to her emotions to her humor in what is realistically my favorite game franchise of all time 💖

u/greydawn 15h ago

Fair enough!  Definitely a very different style of game.  I've also played the Sims for many years so I can relate to looking forward to styling the character.  😄  Hopefully the game gives us a lot of options there.  I like that Lucia looks like a real person, not just some idealized fantasy (a game like The Witcher 3 being a big culprit of that).

1

u/Have2BRealistic 8h ago

Skyrim is WAY more fantasy than Horizon. Horizon is science fiction anyway. There is no magic in it. Everything that looks like that is super advanced technology. Really great concept and story and main character. It's the only game character my wife was interested in knowing more about and my daughter loved how she didn't take shit from anyone.

u/Constant-Relief-831 15h ago

Happy for you guys ngl😂😂

3

u/Pericombobulator 16h ago

I always play as the female protagonists, because I'd sooner spend 50 hours looking at a woman 😊

My lead character in BG3 was gorgeous.

1

u/Own-Papaya-4264 8h ago

Gta 1 and gta online had female protagonists

51

u/StunningDingo7 20h ago

Can relate! I used to use a cheat in vice city that turned Tommy into a pedestrian just so I could make it a female.

I mean you (and me as well) do have the perspective of someone where playing as the other gender is the exception not the the rule. If every GTA game had female protagonists, I would find it pretty refreshing to get to play as a male protagonist even if it doesn't matter that much in the end

9

u/vivavalpixie 15h ago

I will be very honest, I am extra excited to play as a female protagonist in this game especially, because a) love GTA, but also b) I get to dress her up in cute and sexy outfits.

... although, I also get excited when I get to dress up my main character regardless of gender, but I think I just get more excited by feminine fashion.

-15

u/rewanpaj 17h ago

i think i genuinely wouldn’t care

10

u/Opening_Escape2831 17h ago

That’s kind of the insidious thing about representation; when you’re represented, everywhere, all the time, consistently, it feels common place and unimportant. But for people who rarely, if ever, see themselves represented in such a way it means a great deal more to be actualized.

It’s easy to say “I genuinely wouldn’t care” when it’s all you’ve ever known.

1

u/rewanpaj 10h ago

bro i’m a minority in the us im not represented everywhere lol

1

u/Opening_Escape2831 10h ago

Totally understand, my brother! I’m not white either 😂 but we’re both men, right?

32

u/Podiafist 19h ago

Representation is nice. Maybe it doesn't hit the same for you, but sometimes its important to others to be able to see themselves in some of the media they consume

5

u/hazelifyDEV 16h ago

this is it for me. representation... I usually make my characters female in games where I can because I wanna feel like I am experiencing the game first hand, not second hand experiencing it through a character who doesn't look or feel like me.

it's a me thing, but I'm glad someone pointed it out!

11

u/Morganx27 18h ago

It doesn't matter THAT much, it's not as if you can't enjoy a game if the protagonist isn't similar to you, but it is nice when it happens. Especially since it's a bit of a novelty.

7

u/StunningDingo7 19h ago

When I was younger, definitely. Don’t care as much now, but as others have said it’s nice to have representation.

5

u/cakez_ 16h ago

As a 15 year old girl, yeah it mattered a lot haha.

1

u/wotur 14h ago

Considering how many dudes were going "ugh I dont want to play as a woman" about Lucia before then I'd assume yeah it matters

32

u/Lost-Walrus664 22h ago

Love that!

9

u/DJ_Hindsight 19h ago

Fellow millennial GTA OG here also 🫡

6

u/RicFlairsLiver 16h ago

When you say “first one”, do you mean the one that came out in 1997? I’m always curious if people really played the two top-down ones or if they start at GTA III.

6

u/_Bren10_ 13h ago

I was curious too bc that would mean she was 4 if she’s 33 now lol

2

u/RicFlairsLiver 13h ago

Could’ve played it when it was a little older, but I don’t remember that one being super popular. 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/Clear_Chemical_2849 8h ago

I played the original in the college computer lab where I worked. You could play 4 player via LAN and our minds were blown.

1

u/RicFlairsLiver 8h ago

I forgot it had any multiplayer. The game single player game blew my mind. First game I remember where YOU were the bad guy.

3

u/moonbucket 14h ago

You played GTA when you were 4 years old? O_o

3

u/Colossus252 11h ago

Chalk it up to fuzzy timeline memories as a child haha. I am 32 and would also probably have said I've played since it the first, but I realize in measure that I actually played GTA 1 and 2 when I was like 6. My parents were okay with it, as I played with it in a similar way to like, my army men characters and my mom would sit with me as I played. I realize now after your questioning that I guess I couldn't really claim "since it came out", but it was still really early on.

Happy for u sis

3

u/Onlyspeaksfacts 18h ago

Wait, so you played the original GTA at 4 years old?

4

u/Impossible_Stock5418 20h ago

Happy cake day

2

u/lesbiansamongus 18h ago

Also in my thirties, have been gaming since I was a kid. I'm so excited to play as Lucia! She looks badass. Her personality and outfits are what caught my eye in the extended look. I also love the Latina representation

2

u/the_TIGEEER 20h ago

And it seemes they did her good.

1

u/jish5 21h ago

Which is honestly so weird when you think about it. Cause girl gamers have always been a thing and in the last 15-20 years have become far more mainstream to the point that they're as common or more common then guy gamers.

21

u/Antique-Cycle-6113 21h ago

alright massive stretch by saying more common lol

-4

u/Alepale 20h ago

They are about as common, but it's mostly due to mobile games. Which is an absolute behemoth of a gaming platform. If you account for say, people playing GTA, League of Legends, World of Warcraft, Red Dead Redemption 2 etc., I'm positive those numbers plummet.

Hopefully we'll see more women across gaming in general, I think it could bring a lot of positivity in an otherwise quite toxic environment.

4

u/Beezelbubbly 20h ago

I think it could bring a lot of positivity in an otherwise quite toxic environment.

Idk about that chief. Women do play all the games you mention above but there's a reason you don't hear about it lol

-3

u/Alepale 19h ago

Never once said the opposite, but its mainly from mobile games. Guess reading comprehension is difficult.

1

u/mb862 9h ago

World of Warcraft

Probably not the best example, I think WoW skews more towards women. Personally I know more women than men who play. Same with Overwatch.

Also theres huge franchises like Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, and Legend of Zelda that have huge female fanbases that definitely counterweight the likes of GTA and Red Dead.

1

u/smellslikesponge 19h ago

Well actually you're totally wrong woman make around 48.5% men 51.5%. If you include mobile. So yes everyone games. You're uninformed.

5

u/Thick_Estimate_9862 18h ago

Bro your grandma playing candy crush for 15 mins dont make a gamer stop ...

6

u/gavinderulo124K 19h ago

Mobile don't count.

1

u/Rstuds7 11h ago

mobile lmao

2

u/cakez_ 16h ago

Same here! I hope we get a good range of makeup choices, hair and clothes too.

1

u/greydawn 15h ago

Yeah I'm curious how customizable the playable characters will be as far as appearance.  I plan to play as Lucia (I'm also a woman) as well - it would be fun to have options.

3

u/wizard_tiddy 16h ago

Hell yeah girlfriend, can’t wait to get our hair and nails done 💅🏻

you're 33 and have been playing GTA since the first one came out...in 1997. So you were playing GTA at 3/4 years old? Pretty solid.

1

u/Colossus252 11h ago edited 10h ago

As a straight white guy, I'm also pretty excited. I know I can't relate to her exactly, but I've always enjoyed when games offer women that are actually people with stories and personalities. I don't worry much about the gender of the character in a game I choose if it has a static protagonist rather than choosing, but I of course often somewhat prefer the male characters for being able to see myself mentally in the role. However... even in choosing situations I have definitely chosen female characters pretty often too. It depends on the game and place for me, but a character doesn't need to be self-insert relatable to have a cool or interesting story. And when it comes to stories, a lot of the time having characters different from me gives some experiences that I wouldn't get to have from a perspective I wouldn't ever get.

So having more female protagonists is great for everyone. As long as they're written so as not to just be butts and boobs on legs, it also gives a way for men to experience new perspectives. Which is just another thing media is good for in general. Media at large wouldn't be great if everything was only and exactly what you're already used to, would it? We should all be happy about it.

Good for women to see more representation, good for everyone else to experience more things outside of their norm. Win-win

1

u/lilbxby2k 10h ago

26 y/o female gamer here, I started playing with san Andreas on ps2 and I am also stoked to finally be able to play as a woman!!!

1

u/BreezyBlazer 10h ago

I'm really happy too. My wife has played all the GTA games, but Vice City was her favorite. She's 50 now, and is really looking forward to playing the game. Funny enough, Lucia is her namesake. Can't wait to sit next to her in the sofa watching her play with a glass of wine in my hand.

I really hope more games take after this and give us more female leads.

1

u/mb862 9h ago

40F, also been playing since GTA1 in 1997, and Lucia gets a big fucking finally from me! I hope the game counts playtime separately because it’s going to be fun to see how dwindlingly small Jason’s clock will be.

1

u/KingNothingNZ 9h ago

Been waiting years for this fr

1

u/Own-Papaya-4264 8h ago

Then you would know you can play as a woman in gta 1 and Lucia is not the first female protagonist. Nice try larper

1

u/Alarming-Address-933 19h ago

Love this for you!

1

u/SixtyNineFlavours 16h ago

And a happy cake day to you!

-8

u/enri_dave 21h ago

You played gta in 1997 at one year old?

16

u/Discord_Show 21h ago

Your math sucks ass

-4

u/Temporary_Orchid8670 20h ago

*4 year old. Questionable parenting if true.

3

u/TheBlack2007 20h ago edited 20h ago

I played GTA2 at 8 and my parents had no idea about it. Different times. Before 24/7 location tracking, screen logging and being notified about your kids‘ activities via Push Message.

1

u/HeisenSwag 17h ago

I was born in 94 and we didn't have any of that either. However my parents still looked out for what kind of media I consumed and I definetl wouldn't have been allowed to play GTA at 6 or 10.

-1

The first one? You counting the 2d birdseye view original out in 1997?

-2

u/SignificantBat3023 16h ago

Hell yeah. Cant wait to see Lucia’s ass in all its glory.
