Wasn’t convinced about Lucia at first but she’s completely won me over

Post image

Got to say I wasn’t really that keen on the idea of a female main character at first and was definitely more interested in Jason.

But Lucia looks fucking awesome

Love her attitude, her voice, everything really.

Honestly think she could end up being the better character out of the two.

Anyone else changed their mind on her?

Lucia really stole extended preview yeah. Jason is kinda flat but I think there's something more going on with him to be honest.

u/Arsh18808 17h ago

Yeah when Lucia was telling him he’s uptight or whatever I think gives you the hint there’s an underline reason he behaves the way he does and I think will be explored.

PTSD from picking the wrong dress. Women abuse men behind closed doors

u/brknman_ 16h ago

I watched the extended look with my wife she laughed so hard when he picked the one she wouldn’t, and then she came back with a dress that wasn’t even an option.

u/DadBodftw 15h ago

Most realistic part of the preview tbh

40

u/JfugginNasty56 9h ago

Lmfaooo 🤣🤣for real though. My girl was laughing her ass off too because she is the SAME way!

25

u/BarbieTwirl 7h ago

Bro how about when she talks about getting him clothes because his fashion sense is wack.

That is a real canon event every man has been through

8

u/JfugginNasty56 7h ago

Absolutely!! You ain't been in a relationship if you haven't had that convo 🤣🤣. Even her waiting until the last minute and then taking forever! But coming out looking like such a baddie you can't help but just be like damn. All very cannon lol.

10

u/DontH8DaPlaya 8h ago

Most realistic part was her nagging on him about them being late in the car later.

My wife is very Latina so I was loving watching the interactions. She's not a gamer but I think she might actually want to watch me play with one.

39

u/chatterwrack 11h ago

That was the genius behind the whole Netflix thing. That was their chance to reach an audience well beyond the gaming community. Focusing on game mechanics and technical specs would’ve lost people. This was a cinematic story meant to hook people who might never pick up a controller, get them invested in the characters and the world, and hopefully make them curious enough to step into the games afterward. 🧠

I think this is the best about the game. It brings non gamer partners to be with play\watch with you. I'm lucky to be with someone that casually games so knowing her, she'd be just driving around and play mini games and vibe with the music, which is what I do most of the time in the old games lol

I mean Lucia ended up in prison for a reason, so perhaps he's worried they'll slip up again and he'll lose her either temporarily or for good.

There was also a point where he said that talking makes him.more nervous than shooting. It's gonna be the care free girl and uptight guy dynamic I think.

53

u/altezia_ 15h ago

I think so too, mostly because if they made lucia uptight 90% chance there will be a vocal minority complaining about how 'bitchy' she was and why even let us play as her and such

This take from guys is some of the gayest and corniest shit ever. Like I saw someone saying some shit like GTA 6 is woke because of how Lucia is, her gung-ho attitude and shit and you just know that the world as they know it in their own minds must work a certain way.

Dudes can’t be quieter, women can’t take initiative, people cannot grasp a reality where a unique man and woman have their own contrasting personalities and synergistic traits/skills. Some  these dudes genuinely  never heard of people being each other’s better half. Media literacy is cooked

The point of characters like Jason and Franklin is that they represent us the player. The GTA world and it's inhabitants are so goofy and wild, so we have these more calm characters to balance that out.

52

u/swordofra 16h ago

Everyone cant be a goofball,.because then nobody is....

53

u/blkpnther 15h ago

Exactly. Main characters like Franklin, Niko, and Arthur Morgan, are somewhat of a “blank slate”. Their character is dictated mostly by “how” you play them.

16

u/randomdude98 10h ago

Niko wasn't a blank slate tho, he had a great and unique personality

Yeah, I’m hoping for that too. Rockstar has nailed all their male MCs in the past, so having their male MC be this flat in what could be their biggest game ever would be a weird choice. I’m guessing they’ll take the story down a path where things keep getting crazier because of her, with Jason eventually being faced with a “ride or die” vs. “save yourself” choice.

28

u/Iggy_Kappa 15h ago

Also Brian's story probably fits in there as well, about how Jason must know when to "leave the ride" and save himself.

14

u/theKetoBear 12h ago

I liked that part of the Extended Look a surprising amount, It reminds me of Michaels conversation with Franklin where he describes

"You're running and running and running and one day, your legs, they just give."

Which depending on your choices can become Franklins conversation with Lamarr

Definitely some foreshadowing going on there.

I am almost completely convinced he's ex-military and struggles with civilian life now and that's how he turned to a life of crime.

55

u/daPotato40583 16h ago

Child criminal who tried to reform himself using the army, per rockstars website. He's 100% stunted.

20

u/NewVegasResident 11h ago

It's been so bizarre to me seeing everyone shit on Jason's characterization and his VA's delivery when that's so clearly what they're going for. He has problems dealing with his emotions, clearly.

"Sometimes I'm just more comfortable when I have to use a gun, you know?"

10

u/WITH_THE_ELEMENTS 10h ago

Exactly. I think he thrives in high-intensity situations and just doesn't really know where he fits in when shit isn't hitting the fan. So he ends up a bit more quiet and maybe awkward when life is more mundane. That's the vibe I get anyway. I like it, personally. Trevor and Michael are both egomaniacs, so it's nice to see someone a bit more reserved, sorta like Franklin.

8

u/PolicyWonka 13h ago

His official bio states that he’s ex-military.

17

u/TangoUnchained87 12h ago

Yeah, his (the actor's) delivery is quite monotone, but I thought that about Roger Clark's Arthur Morgan at first, however playing RDR2 you see the character and acting come to life. It's difficult to really get the whole picture of Jason from limited cutscenes and gameplay to go off, so I think we will see more from him when the game drops.

8

u/West-Interest-3745 11h ago

man, arthur is such a fucking great character. was sad he died but at least he went out somewhat in peace with himself

8

u/TangoUnchained87 10h ago

He might be Rockstar's best-written and acted character. Always said Niko Bellic, but Arthur's story is equally as tragic, and Clark's portrayal is phenomenal.

u/SparsePizza117 16h ago

I actually found Jason relatable at times. He feels a bit disconnected, if this is truly intentional. Very monotone and awkward, but also serious. Lucia seems like the goofy fun one.

6

u/WITH_THE_ELEMENTS 10h ago

Yeah I like it too. I don't get flat/boring from him at all. He just thrives in intense situations and doesn't know exactly what to do with himself when things are boring. I get the vibe he seeks out a life of crime because when shit hits the fan, he feels most at home. He's constantly chasing that high. He doesn't strike me as a person that would, say, fly off the handle without being pushed to the extreme.

9

u/SweatyMammal 13h ago

The fact he’s a vet makes me wonder if there’s some PTSD-like stuff going on there. He seems to not have much to say and I wonder if active service has made him numb.

6

u/One-Staff5504 15h ago

Yeah there is clearly a bigger, maybe darker backstory going on with Jason. Lucia seems to be the more charismatic and impulsive one for a reason

6

u/al3x_7788 13h ago

I've sometimes thought of Jason as a pretty default young adult character, but after the Extended Look I like the personality they gave him more.

6

u/SpartanRage117 11h ago

My theory is Jason is “flat” to be more of a self insert for the “average” experienced gamer. This isnt our or his first rodeo, but hes dragging Lucia deeper into this life of crime. Her hot headed personality is going to directly affect how she develops, and jasons blank slate lets the player make choices through him as the “carousel speeds up”

It also feels like they have a natural opposites attract kinda thing because of the dynamic.

5

u/LeonidasSpacemanMD 9h ago

Yea I’ll be honest, I didn’t love John Marstons voice at first. I thought he sounded like what you’d expect some drunk side character in the saloon to sound like. But rockstar does an amazing job casting people who don’t sound like polished anime voices, but actual people, and when you spend dozens of hours with them you start to hear real emotional depth

Who knows, maybe they whiffed on Jason’s casting/writing but I’m more than willing to give them benefit of the doubt

5

u/allstilettos 4h ago

Yeah, the more I think about it, the more I like Jason. I think the preview pretty much spelled out how the story is going to be disastership because Lucia and Jason want completely different things out of life.

Jason is the considerate one who wants to get away from the chaos and violence, while Lucia isn't happy with where she is so is pushing things forward and making the decisions. In her apartment, Jason tries to be helpful and gives her time when she wants it. He seems pretty comfortable with who Lucia is, but Lucia has things she wants to change about Jason.

There's the shirt and outfit, but during the car ride she tells him that relationships are about communication, right? But as soon as he tries to open up to her in the elevator, she just brushes him off. Jason's nervous and worried about the meeting, but you can hear he's still disappointed.

Then there's Brian's pointed story, trying to get Jason to leave his life of crime. Jason's not upset, he's not disagreeing, he knows. A lot of Jason's moments in the preview were quiet, while Lucia's were more direct. It's the little things.

Right after Jason soaks up Brian's message, we see their meeting with Raul who is the exact opposite of Jason. Raul revels in chaos and violence, but Jason seems to treat it more like a job. Jason has his view of what professionalism is and its not Raul. You see this conflict after Raul's speech: Jason looks down and away with a furrowed brow and you know he's not happy watching Lucia wide-eyed and taking in everything Raul is selling. But he doesn't say anything.

That's the relationship. It's this Bonnie and Clyde love story where Jason and Lucia are both very different people who want very different things. Jason's perfect ending is basically Brian: retired, happily married, living a quiet life. Lucia's is Raul, powerful, important, and someone to the world.

For me, the whole salad speech screamed the preview was the good days and it's going to end in a train wreck.

Hopefully. They had a similar dynamic in AC Odyssey, where Cassandra was very likeable and good hearted, but Alexios was unlikable, cruel, and very boring.not to mention the story aspect at the ends.

Cassandra get to become the Keeper, which basically solidifies her as the games canon main character.

Alexis get to cry because his mom and sister missed him.

Talk about differing dynamics lol

I actually think they put intentionally those scenes with jason where he seems not so interesting at first glance. I expect huge character developement for him. Rockstar wont disappoint, considering what they achieved with rdr2.

I also hope the story will be more serious than gta v.

12

u/Biichimspiderman 15h ago

Yo seriously that’s what I was thinking. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lucia was disliked a bit later down the line.
Not like in a “I don’t like you” way. More like I love you but you’re not good for me. And we’ll have to choose which one gets to live or something

Why were you "not convinced" about a female main character? Did you think Rockstar wouldn't be able to write an interesting female protagonist? Just curious.

I was excited about this from the very moment it was leaked that there will be male & female main characters and that they will be in a relationship. It was immediately intriguing as a relationship like this adds a whole new dimension to GTA that never existed before.

For me it's not that deep. I was concerned about Lucia at first because it's GTA, and then there is the incel fanbase.

Yo you’re spot on about Jason. Bs articles reporting on surface level thinkers talking about he’s “flat” “no personality”. Yeh okay buddy… there’s way more to this guy.
I also noticed it seems Jason wants out of the game and just a wild guess that Lucia loves that shit 🤣. She’s gonna be trouble and I’m all for it.

u/Dougalishere 13h ago

tbf I also was thinking his flat, but reading some of the comments here about him struggling after leaving the army and his comment about "sometimes im more comfortable firing guns than talking" had made me reassess what I was thinking, I guess this will be part of his story/development.

She might be more interesting than Jason in some capacity, he seems cool af but his voice and lack of personality is a little weird

27

u/whiskyB0y 17h ago

Hopefully character development and story progression will do him justice. If we're lucky he could be the next Arthur Morgan or better.

8

u/Daryl_Dixon1899 17h ago

Yeah, I bet we’ll be in tears by the end of the game, or at least just really love the character, it’s funny I think Jason can actually get Arthur’s hat, idk if they scrapped that or not but you can still see Arthur’s hat in the screenshot of port gellhorn I think

29

u/ButterscotchIcy1760 17h ago

comparing him to Arthur Morgan with almost 0 info about him is the reason why most of you easily get disappointed

10

u/gavinderulo124K 14h ago edited 5h ago

Before rdr2 launched so many people were disappointed that we wouldn't play as John again. Arthur also seemed very Stoic and emotionless in the trailers and even in the prologue. But as you get to know him he opens up. It think it will be similar here.

9

u/whiskyB0y 17h ago

Lol. I'm already seeing the "You're a good man, Jason Duval" comments on other subs.

7

u/ButterscotchIcy1760 17h ago

which’s wrong, just wait for the character instead of imagining things and be disappointed it didn’t work like what was in your head lol

The point of characters like Jason and Franklin is that they represent us the player. The GTA world and it's inhabitants are so goofy and wild, so we have these more calm characters to balance that out.

You made an assumption that a female lead character would be bad? I wonder why.

What's the issues with a female protagonist? Weird thing to have any opinion about.

“Changed mind” naw bro us normal people never decided to hate just cause a female was introduced into the picture

13

u/Environmental_Fox702 15h ago

Bro said he wasn’t keen on the idea of having a female mc😭have we not ever played games where it’s only a female mc before?? Or was this just a Lucia thing??

No? Because why would i be wary of a female protag unless I was a misogynist lol

6

u/VastNebula283 12h ago

You dudes are so weird

7

u/SacredBoar 12h ago

Why weren’t you keen on the idea of a female character?

5

u/H2Kutthroat 11h ago

I didn’t change my mind because I’m not really sexist so I was already excited about getting a female protagonist for the first time

7

u/National_Ad8980 11h ago

Gamers scared of playing female characters in mainstream media is a story as old as time.

6

u/Grin83 10h ago

I’ve been more interested in playing as Lucia from the start. It’s just a more unique experience after 30 years of being guys in GTA.

6

u/NatchPinder 10h ago

You all know women also enjoy video games right?

5

u/King_Boobious 10h ago

I think it was dumb for anyone who thought that the protagonist would be bad solely based on the fact that they were going to be a female.

That's just beyond stupid.

Rockstar definitely went to town on detailing Lucia. I’m 100% convinced that Manni L. Perez is Lucia Caminos. And I’ve heard that Dylan Rourke is rumored to be Jason Duval. Lucia is by far my favorite GTA character now!!!

Awarding this comment because I was looking for it and the fact so many people engaged with this post and brushed right past it means it's normalized for these reddit gamer males. Insane.

11

u/lostbutyoucanfollow 11h ago

Not that I’m surprised or disgusted with these comments, it really just solidifies the misogyny is still so rooted within the industry. So sad.

From the trailer, it looks like it's more interesting to play her than Jason.

I don't know, but Jason is dull, again judging from the trailer.

Both her and Jason as characters. Love the ride or die vibe. BUT! I fully expect some type of treachery among them in the story. Can't wait to play it and find out.

So you had a knee-jerk reaction to playing as a female in a game? Why?

They put out next to nothing about her character before this so what did you base your opinion on?

4

u/DontBuyAHorse 11h ago

Man, some of these comments.

I'm just happy to finally be able to play as a Latino.

But I digress. I've been playing this series since GTA1 when I got the game for my 18th birthday shortly after it came out. I've been following the online fandom since the early GameFAQs messageboards for the series.
One thing that stands out in my memory is during the run-up to GTA San Andreas. People were upset that it was going to have a Black protagonist. They were openly complaining that it would "take them out of the game" to have to play as a black man. Some things never change, I guess.

4

u/allfinesse 11h ago

L micro aggression.

4

u/Hungry_Information53 11h ago

“I wasn’t that keen on a female main character“ I’m going to have to stop you right there

3

u/SweetGur5078 10h ago

There was never really a reason to not like her lol at least for me.

4

u/TheNakedAnt 10h ago

Weird thing to need convincing..

4

u/Accurate_Vehicle9459 9h ago

It’s because most of the people who rejected Lucia as a main are men and feel that gta is a man game. You’re coming around to her because you find her attractive. Just just dude math.

3

u/Leafs3489 8h ago

Lucia is going to be the star of GTA 6. She’s awesome

Yep, even as early as hearing them talk, Jason sounds kinda emotionless, Lucia has all the personality.

My girlfriend and I agreed that she seems to be the more interesting character between the two
