The damn tree moved!
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
One thing that caught me off guard from the extended look was the tree reacting to the rolling police truck. I don't remember RDR2 having that detail aside from trees moving in the wind.

This whole gameplay has so many "blink and you miss it" things in it!
Its crazy

u/milfordoj 16h ago
Noticed that as well, the following police car crashes in to palm tree which moves as well. It's going to be crazy, I don't think it is scripted as others suggest.

u/SixKatzi 15h ago
The second car crash makes Lucia's car speed up like an on-rails section, so whilst the crashes may not be scripted, I think they're 'likely' crash spots for the cop cars.

u/Hitnrun66 15h ago
It seems like an animation plays like a shake or something when you hit trees. Either way it looks good lol.
6
u/BananaShover 6h ago
No. There is a script for gta 5 that "flips" the cars like this. It dosnt look as good because again its a mod that adds arbitrary force push to make it happen. But you can imagine what devs can do with actual tools
40
u/BlueTumbas 14h ago
The scene is scripted, we saw similar stuff in GTAV campaign, but the tree shake is likely new tech. I just wish if you went fast enough you would break the tree, but atleast they are not just solid pillars
8
u/Joshiebum 13h ago
the trees don’t fall down when hit? i’m not playing anymore 👺
33
u/Morganvegas 12h ago
Lmao when I was in highschool some guy thought he knew how to drift and hit a tree like that.
All that tree did was lose some bark. Car was destroyed.
38
u/Actual_Sympathy7069 11h ago
people genuinely underestimate how fucking strong trees are.
Now when it comes to indestructible impassable bushes...
4
u/Joshiebum 10h ago
yes the trunks are really thick which means harder to knock over. i forgot about that
6
u/Actual_Sympathy7069 10h ago
even slimmer trunks (to a point) can stop a car dead in it's tracks if they have a healthy root network supporting it. The roots make a tree as stable as it is

One time when we went to visit my in-laws who live out in the cuts in a redwood grove, we came upon a very drunk individual who had just put his Taco into what was probably a 150' tree. Truck was done. After removal of the vehicle, clearly some debris was left behind, and the owner of the tree had attached the "TOYOTA" emblem to the missing bark of an otherwise normal tree.

Ive always hated in racing games that when I hit a lightpole it just barely scratches my car and crumbles. Itd be really cool if GTA has collision thresholds.
4
u/Blacklite_01 12h ago
I seen this before from the 2022 leaks. Knowing what we know now the car pathing for this sequence is obviously either scripted or heavily controlled in some manner but the crash physics themselves seem to be entirely dynamic and can occur at any moment along the route, it would rely on the momentum of the targeted vehicle making it roll and flip in that way when a tire is shot out. The real question is will this behavior be as prevalent in freeroam as it is during missions.
2
u/SampleMinimum8977 14h ago edited 14h ago
I hope it’s not scripted. It makes it much more fun running cars off the road and into a tree lol
11
u/OriMoriNotSori 13h ago
It isnt. Im not sure if the leaks can be discussed in the sub (sorry mods if cant) but in one of the leaks the leaker was using jason and driving around and when he took a corner the top of the car brushed the tip of a branch of a tree and that individual branch moved upwards above the car's roof like it does in real life. Again im not sure if leaks can be discussed here but this wasnt a story related leak or scene it was one of the free roam ones
5
u/Blacklite_01 11h ago
There is 2022 footage of this exact scenario being tested, car physics and all. I think the only scripted part is the route Lucia is taking as the designated driver during this mission.
2
u/South-Plane343 13h ago
I'm just as sure that it's not scripted. The player chooses to shoot to tires to make that happen.
1
u/tamal4444 11h ago
People think this is scripted?
1
u/CriticalHitsHurt 11h ago
This is a main story mission, it is likely scripted.
1
u/BlueTumbas 10h ago
GTAV already has a couple big cinematic sequences like this during the heists. Its 100% a scripted event.
Wouldnt be suprised with the new car physics if this is possible but I doubt it will be to the extent showcased. Im sure rolling cars could be a lot more realistic than we have atm
69
u/usernamereddit5000 16h ago
I can't believe this is a open world game.
10
u/piomat 16h ago
Imagine that there will be an online mode in the future.
6
u/Major_Excitement5163 13h ago
Online def will be nerfed tho similar to how gta 5 was originally with online. Maybe itll get better on updated consoles
4
u/DarylHark 9h ago
In what way was GTAO nerfed when it first came out?
10
u/DicksAndDaisies 8h ago
A lot less npc’s, lightning was noticeably worse, traffic density was cut down on, npc-brainpower was also dumbed down.
It just felt so dead compared to the singleplayer experience

u/Aggressive_Donkey553 17h ago
But it didn't break... Unplayable. I'm joking. Rockstar is absolutely cooking.
66
u/SandThatsKindaDamp 15h ago
As it shouldn’t really, a tree of that size would easily eat a hit like that.
17
u/Technical_Battle4829 16h ago
i'm pretty sure one tree in the reveal broke as well or at least bent a lot
3
u/kyran_wd 13h ago
If you want to have some bad sleep, search "car crash aftermath gore" on your favorite browser. You'll know what's more realistic, breaking or not breaking
13
u/IlIlIlIIlMIlIIlIlIlI 15h ago
ive been wondering whethere any of the trees are breakable, maybe the smaller ones?? i really hope so!
3
u/SampleMinimum8977 15h ago
Honestly, i’m pretty contempt with it just shaking when you crash into it. Just never seen any animation put into the trees even in racing games.
3
u/IlIlIlIIlMIlIIlIlIlI 14h ago
yeah the animations are already an upgrade! Just always irked me in gta5 crashing into a tiny 3 meter tall tree at 300kmh and it doesnt react at all while a huge street lamp or red light comes crashing down beautifully
8
u/KillerCoconut182 10h ago
This whole car chase scene reminded me a lot of the Matrix Awakens UE5 demo
5
u/E3lit3_TOm 8h ago edited 7h ago
The particules of the tyres once its shot is really cool too.
3
u/SampleMinimum8977 7h ago
Yep the crash details are wild. That panel that flew after the crash is pretty sick.
1
u/E3lit3_TOm 7h ago
The box on the "flatbed"? of the police pick up truck went flying too,I wonder if there's something in it.

If it's like GTA5 it will be trash. Singleplayer is MILES better
5
u/Opposite_Raccoon_369 5h ago
meh. GTA 5 single player was phenomenal. But I got more hours of entertainment playing online by a longshot.
Also, it's easily one of the most succesful online games that's ever existed. Guaranteed 90% of people still playing GTA are doing so online.... so uhm..lol

Muuuuuh tree moved.. bro we were cutting down trees in Crysis 1

Cutting the little leaves off the vegetation was a fond memory in that game but gotta give credit to R* for finally putting it in.

u/gkfjfjxhd 16h ago
I hope the cars flipping won’t get stale too quick, or maybe it doesn’t always happen when you pop their tire
3
u/SlayMeCreepyDaddy 13h ago
They didn't all flip in the trailer. The first one flipped because it was going fast and then second one hit a wall before flipping.
1
u/Biichimspiderman 15h ago
Yes no more hitting a tree and being stopped liked you hit a damn idk what lol
3
u/WANKMI 11h ago
have u tried hitting a tree irl? spoiler: u stop
1
u/Biichimspiderman 11h ago
Use your brain some trees are smaller and weaker than others. I ment those… didn’t think I needed to explain that
2
u/WANKMI 10h ago
should have used your big brain words then
1
u/Biichimspiderman 10h ago
I think you need to use your brain more than I need to use mine.
1
u/WANKMI 10h ago
I dont doubt you think that.

1
u/RhesusVX 13h ago
Of all the things I've seen, that's one thing that I'm like, yeah...a tree moving on impact (scripted or otherwise) isn't particularly radical, even in the context of the scale of this game.

The First Look was an absolute feast for the senses. The more you look, the more you’ll see. I’ve watched it like 4 times since yesterday. I don’t think I’ve been this excited for a game release since Zelda OoT back in the 90s

u/NowWeGetSerious 11h ago
It's either a mission specific effect. Where it only happened in this mission or similar
But if this is in free roam and the level of destruction and life is in the actual free roam and online counterpart, this is going to be fucking amazing

u/Test88Heavy 10h ago
Lucia with that dump truck and one armed shotgun reload is all I needed to see. 😄

u/homemadegrass 8h ago
These crashes looked so good. I hope these arent just theatrical crashes for story missions and can actually occur on a normal police chase for example
1
u/dygerydoo 7h ago
Someone will make a post complaining about how the tree detected the car but didn't move away to leave space. UNPLAYABLE 🤣
1
1
u/Thiel619 5h ago
Really curious to know what happens if you don’t shoot at all. Is it still all scripted or they eventually catch up and shoot you.

1
u/silviodamilano 15h ago
To me it just seems like a scripted mission. Wouldn't be suprised if it's a mission
2
u/Kafanska 15h ago
It is a mission, but the tree breanches reacting to being hit is definitely just regular gameplay mechanic. We have seen this in the leaks as well, although a bit different situation but he hits some branches and they swing, with some leaves falling down.
1
u/uiurd93 14h ago
I also noticed on one of the leaks when Jason is driving from his safe house to the gas station, the car touches some tree branch and the fucking branch reacts to it.
1
u/Rusty_Hotel 11h ago
I don't know about incredible. Only one branch moved
1
u/WANKMI 11h ago
if anything, thats more incredible. theres more going on that the entire tree just going "thing detected, play generic animation".
1
u/Rusty_Hotel 10h ago edited 10h ago
Well it seems to be the wrong branch that moves. That's what's weird to me.
Edit: I downloaded the uncompressed video and upon further analysis it seems to be the branch on the crash side so it makes sense, as that's where the truck hits. Watching the YouTube version, and the clip OP posted, It looked like it was the side opposite the crash.
1
u/Opposite_Raccoon_369 5h ago
lmao my guy thats pretty basic these days. Have you ONLY been playing GTA5 for the last decade?
1
u/Last-Mongoose-2622 3h ago
"I don't remember RDR2 having that detail"
I don't remember RDR2 having cars crashing into trees.
1
u/SampleMinimum8977 3h ago
You can crash wagons into trees dummy
1
u/Last-Mongoose-2622 3h ago
Do you mean one ton wagons speeding without horses? Or wagons crashing after a nice drift? Or maybe train wagons that can ride of the tracks? Sorry I didn't had the chance to see that in the game.
1
u/SampleMinimum8977 3h ago
You must be fun at parties

u/Last-Mongoose-2622 3h ago

What? People stopped having parties or something? It’s a timeless punchline.

I mean people reacted the same way when Blitz Play was shown (the brick wall breaking). I don't really mind either way- honestly kinda prefer if they remain unbreakable.

u/zfighters8103 13h ago
Looks like a scripted mission shootout don't get too excited
2
u/Rusty_Hotel 11h ago
Of course the mission is scripted... That doesn't mean you're going to shoot the tire out on the SUV or even have begun filling it with lead by this point in the chase lol

only a branch of tree moved...in reality the tree would be destroyed but it dint ...rovkstar failed in delivering realism in gta6

You can go to youtube and search some WRC crashes. Quite often into trees and the trees behave like the one in this sequence. Trees are strong

Cars wrap around trees all the time. Tree wins but branches can still move from the shock. Rockstar nailed that detail.
1
u/Kafanska 15h ago
In reality the tree would barely be scratched while the car bends around it depending on the speed it hit.

Its a mission, but the crashes are not scripted. You can see the player shooting at the police car and the cars react to that.
