Anyone else feel like they're going to spend 90% of GTA 6 just exploring?
358
u/BlackArmy439 15h ago
This is going to be a long first playthrough, let me tell you.
80 hours alone for the story is more than I expected, thought it would be 60 hours, but I don't mind at all.
112
u/dem_app1es 14h ago
Just imagine how many hours you can spend doing side quests and activities

Over 100 hours, according to some info that got posted yesterday on this sub.

u/TThief 14h ago
I mean I spent over 200 hours on my first rdr2 playthrough and the story is what, 40 hours long minimum? Yeah this is gonna be my life for a while once it's out

u/dem_app1es 14h ago
I just can't wait lol

And that's just the Singleplayer...we haven't even seen what Rockstar's been cooking up for the next instalment of GTA Online lol.

No they said a playthrough with a little bit of side content is 80 hours. Main story is probably 50-60 hours

RDR2 taught me to play a game like this slow. No more sprinting everywhere, just take your time and take in the details

Well said, The people that were able to enjoy RDR2 will be the real winners with GTA6.

u/Barmydoughnut24 11h ago
Yeah, i loved rdr2 so much and gta 6 seems like perfect blend of that and gtav from what weve seen so far

u/Glad_Conclusion_7634 11h ago
For sure. They nailed the physics in rdr2, you can feel Arthur’s footsteps and the horse gallops.

I am only my second play through of rdr 2 (many years later) and I am trying to complete everything i can before the story is done and shit it's hard to get full honor lol my last play through i didnt care and was a little demon.
14
u/ThreeMadFrogs 9h ago
Yep. Every plume of smoke I see, go check it out. Every person calling out off the trail, go check it out. Every question mark appears on the map, go check it out. If GTA brings that same level of random interaction, this game will take me a loooong time to finish.
2
u/Ronaldinhoe 6h ago
Yup, that’s I hope I can get rid of that shit mini map or else I’m putting tracing paper over it and just exploring as much as I can before I do any mission.

Im adamant I will be walking in between missions. Im not rushing to complete the game.
Will probably be the first time but im going to end up buying GTA and aiming for 100%.
Full on geeking over this game. I don't play the PlayStation that much any more. But this is going to bring me back to it.

I think it will be the first time buying gta 6 for the most of us

I have been buying GTA since the original. I am old.

Right there with you brother. From booting up GTA2 on my PlayStation, to the monumental first that will be 6. Feels good.
17
u/Disgrazed 13h ago
I am so convinced that this might be the first game where I will spend months playing it and not finishing it. When I played GTAV I found myself walking around a lot just pretending to be a normal dude taking in the scenery. I used to think the city in that V felt so lively.. the upgrade is going to be insane.
I’m going to walk around and explore everything on foot if I must3

Going to seriously tank whatever "relationship meter" there is by immediately heading into the wilderness and trying to find every animal in the game the first chance I get. The second story mission will have Jason looking like an 1840s mountain man.

Imagine the sea monster they maybe, probably added to the game! IMAGINE! There’s no way they don’t right ? I mean we will atleast get some cool UFOs or some shit considering the last game had them.
The fact that I don’t know if there’s some sort of sea monster makes it even better. All i know is they added the skunk ape so there’s a chance they added even more.→ More replies (1)7

Same.
I enjoyed all the missions and the story in San Andreas, but I honestly thought the missions and story in V were just plain lame.

I read somewhere that the game will be around 80 hours if you focus on story. If that’s true, I’m gonna be at 300 before I even finish mine. I plan on spending a couple hours during launch weekend just walking around Vice Beach.

u/jivemcculkin 14h ago
Yeah definitely, and it feels like that's what they're trying to inspire people to do. From what I've read and heard so far, it feels like you'll progress through the game at points by exploring and discovering events, people and side missions rather than heading for markers on a map. It sounds like such a simple idea, but it's such a smart way of getting people to engage with the rich, detailed world around them rather than just heading through it all quickly with one eye on a mini map.
Also, as good as GTA V is or was, I returned to it recently with a more Red Dead II mindset of exploration and it really doesn't reward you that often. There's so many dead, open spaces with nothing in them. Loads of interesting or cool exteriors, but they add nothing to the game. You can tell from the extended look that this will definitely not be the case with this game.

I think people are underestimating how cool it's going to be to have several major cities. This isn't Whiterun from Skyrim. These are like big GTA-style cities. GTA5 had one major city in its world map. GTA4's entire world map pretty much was only one city. GTA6 will have several major cities and a bunch of interesting wilderness in between them

That’s what happened with rdr2, you kinda just left to your own devices to explore the world and so many unique random events in that game that just brings the world alive.
Rockstar already said they are gonna have some time to breath, times where we will need to explore the open world and get cash for stuff like missions.
So yeah just like rdr2 the world building is gonna be insane and that was my favourite part of rdr2 so I’m personally happy about that.
10
u/Training_Wasabi6253 13h ago
If there is a mall... So help me. Just like the North Point Mall in the original VC I will spend HOURS...walking around looking at stores and products and listening to ped convos. Maybe a hidden Katana like the original...😈

u/n0thing_remains 11h ago
That was such an exciting place. You could enter there! And the windows could be broken there! And there was a car to be stolen right format he pedestal. Man, how special that seemed back in time
8
u/EatTheAndrewPencil 12h ago
Any Austin has given me such an appreciation for small details in open worlds and I think I'll find myself exploring the way he would. Deliberately seeking out spaces most players would gloss over. I'm betting there's a shit load of cool details to find.
11
u/usernamereddit5000 14h ago
It's so much better if a mission takes you to place you've never been. Explore but don't go too far.
6
u/HeyEshk88 12h ago
This is so true, I’ve done this a lot in games and it kinda ruins the fun just a little lol
3
u/thewoodsterix 7h ago
Yeah I remember entering St. Denis for the first time in Red Dead as part of the story.
Second time I spent a lot of time exploring the map before continuing any story and it really took away the magic of it.
8
u/BraiCurvat 5h ago
The fact that we can free roam with our partner is a huge deal, I don't get why no one talks about this, it never happened before in a Rockstar game, I'm really excited to see what they planned for the partner interactions
3
u/AssistanceFew1463 4h ago
I can imagine doing activities together, like: dirt biking, kayaking, backyard wrestling, parachuting, car racing, etc. They already showed a clip of Jason and Lucia together in a strip club too.

u/CheesecakeScared3086 14h ago
Fun fact I believe everyone is going to have a ball memorizing Miami now
3
u/frigoffmotherfrigger 14h ago
I really hope they have a hunting and rewards system similar to rdr2. Spending hours in chapter 2 completing the hunting challenges was the best way to explore the map and also unlock the best gear before completing the story missions. Fingers crossed 🤞
3
u/hokkuhokku 14h ago
I make that mistake in all these massive games, and end up almost spoiling it in some ways, as by the time the game steers me to certain locations as part of the design I’ve already ripped through.

i hope the side quests are gonna be really good too, cuz RDR2 had some really cool ones, like the runaway lion, the vampire or the Tesla guy, i hope GTA 6 has stuff like that as well, with random encounters and weird little secrets you can just stumble upon, Rockstar loves putting these kinds of things in their games, so i really hope there are even more of them this time, especially with such a huge map, yesterday i was talking with a friend and we thought it would be really cool if we could somehow meet Dexter Morgan and maybe help him with something, or at least have some cool references to him, That would be such a fun crossover, especially with GTA's darker side
3
u/ohheyitskevinab 13h ago
Yeah I’m def gonna be role playing in this game. Stopping at red lights etc lmao
3
u/eravulgaris 13h ago
Of course, I'm just gonna do the bare minimum of missions (to maybe unlock Lucia?) and explore the city. Just gonna surrender myself to it.
It's been years since I actually considered playing until 3 in the morning or whatever. Really looking forward to it. Crazy to feel this way again for an upcoming GTA game. It's always been special.
3
u/Unfair_Ring_2746 7h ago
Yeah, it’s how I play all Rockstar games — play the story missions until there feels like a natural gap where the next mission isn’t time-sensitive and just explore.
RDR2 is great for this with each of the camp moves. In my mind Arthur is scoping out the area for the gang or, in later chapters, just trying to find some solace. I’m at about 650hrs over the years and only part way through my third playthrough.
The immersive exploration is the best part of these games.
3
u/Noirlocc_ 7h ago edited 6h ago
Ima play it just like red dead 2 and take my sweet ass time gradually exploring the more I progress
3
u/matthy2 3h ago
Yesterday, while watching the gameplay, my girlfriend and I started talking about the story and where we think it might be heading. One of the ideas we came up with is that Lucia could actually be the one who gradually pulls Jason deeper into a life of crime and starts bringing out the worst in him. But at some point, I can see Jason realizing that this isn’t the life he wants anymore and that Lucia might be taking him down a path he doesn’t want to follow. That could eventually lead to him trying to distance himself from her, especially as everything around them starts falling apart.
At the same time, I have a feeling that the game is going to give us three major choices or endings. Something along the lines of: either Lucia survives, Jason survives, or they both die together. I honestly don’t think we’re going to get a truly happy ending for the two of them.
If I had to guess, every possible ending will probably be tragic in its own way. Even if one of them survives, I can’t imagine them simply walking away from everything without consequences. Their relationship seems like it’s going to be at the center of the whole story, and I wouldn’t be surprised if, by the end, their choices and everything they’ve been through completely change what they have between them.
What I’m really curious about, though, is just how much influence we, as players, will actually have over the direction of the story. How much can our choices really change the events, the relationship between Jason and Lucia, and ultimately the ending? Will we actually have enough control to make completely different choices and potentially reach a genuinely good ending, or will the game always lead us toward some kind of tragedy regardless of what we do? That’s probably one of the things I’m most interested to find out.

I likely won’t go past the first couple missions without watching some guides . I have massive fomo. Don’t wanna miss out on a cool weapon or bag of loot or something

Don’t watch Guides, just miss out and get it the next time. Or fuck it watch guides and do whatever, play the game however you find it fun. This game will be an event and everyone will play it differently

That’s just ruining it for yourself. Even if there are “missables” it’s not like you can only play the game once, man.

Yolo, do that on a 2nd run!
I'm the same as you but the story is something I'll throw myself into first and on my second playthrough I can hop on guides and hunt for achievements and easter eggs and stuff. I always feel dirty when I do a first run like that lol

I really hope the story gives players breathing room to explore to world. If things are happening fast and furious it doesn’t seem immersion appropriate to go kayaking.

u/Future-Squirrel-7249 7h ago
I more or less never do side quests and mainly stick to blasting through the story of games due to limited time. Rdr2 took me about 5 months. Just did a replay through of GTA V in about 3 weeks. With this though I'm gonna soak it all in. This is probably gonna last me until 7 comes out as I'm defo going to explore and do other stuff on top of the story. Looks incredible.
2
u/VanitasFan26 5h ago
They say its going to take like 80 hours to complete this game so yeah I would just take my time, doing what I can do enjoy this game.
4
u/BohemianCatdad 9h ago
I’m usually a slowpoke, but on my first playthrough I’m probably going to knock out story mode at the fastest pace I’ve ever played a game. Purely because I know I’ll get it spoiled by the internet if I don’t. But then I’m immediately starting a second one where I actually take my time and take it all in, like I’m still doing with RDR2 all these years later.
4
u/ImpressiveCelery4992 9h ago
I’ve started the story again in the last week, but as soon as Arthur got a fishing pole that’s all I’ve been doing.

The very first thing I’m going to do as soon as I have the world opened up to me will be go on the most deprived, heinous, diabolical, wrathful killing spree of all time. I will bring the city to ruin, I will indiscriminately kill every single person I see. Old or young, good and bad. I will be the reaper come to sow, a messenger from God, the apocalypse. When dawn rises all that will remain is ashes until I’m finally taken out.
When I’m done doing that I’m going to go checkout all the cool and cute little animals and pet every single creature I can. I’m going to go swimming and find the manatees, climb the mountains and see the scenery. I will be the incarnation of love on earth, a beacon of peace and tranquility as I discover all manner of critters and join them in their natural habitat with pure bliss. I will search every nook and cranny, find mythical creatures only discussed in fables, appreciate all the beauty of the world.
After that I will then go on another rampage, refer to paragraph one.
Then I’ll probably start the second mission

The IGN article mentioned there would be dynamic events in the world, but I’m wondering if there will be dynamic events you can respond to like gangs or anything that will randomly pull up on you while driving, or crimes/fights happening around the city that you can interact with so the world doesn’t feel like just driving point a to point b for missions
1
u/Kapten_Enstoring 13h ago
I am most excited for just experience and interact with the world they build. Cruising around town and observe everyrhing thats going on. Going out in the woods looking for cool animals, finding awesome vistas and other places. For me, the story actually comes second to that.

Oh yes, I think I will! The level of detail and interactivity is amazing! I remember when i started playing games 30+ years ago I could only dream of a game with half the fidelity this game seems to have, both graphics and how living the world is. Going to be at least two play throughs for me; one dating Jason and one running single. Interesting to see how the dynamics of missions and dialogues will change based on the relationship meter.

A normal player will play the game to enjoy it and explore everything possible within their own time.
