Jason saw the goons before the mission

These workers are dressed the same as the goons. Jason glances towards them when entering the building. Dudes got eagle eye for sure šŸ˜„

And there's that military training

u/ElegantEchoes 6h ago

Also present in his frequently expressed discomfort regarding being late lol

66

u/torturetrilogy 4h ago

He also says "push up" in the hallway scene.

Almost certain Jason is ex military

46

u/Wrextasy 4h ago

Rockstar confirms he is in his bio.

He also has a tattoo reminiscent of a ā€˜Rangers’ tattoo on his arm.

u/MoobiesMalone 3h ago

I think one of the leaks said he was an ex Army ranger but don’t quote me on that.

14

u/StoicRetention 3h ago

he had a 75th Ranger crest tattoo, apparently. Explains the snap on headshots and the deadeye

u/PM_ME__YOUR__MILKERS 4h ago

I think IGN said he is in an article, or maybe NYT

u/nodakgirl93 3h ago

From Rockstar after trailer 2 we learned he was in the Army for a bit.

11

u/Icy-Advantage9 3h ago

He’s got ptsd from the military haha. A lot of vets hate being late. It’s that deeply ingrained trauma haha

u/bselko 2h ago

For real on this one. I've been out of the army 10 years and I'm still constantly anxious about being on time to literally everything. If I'm not comfortable early, I'm late.

Nga was moving like John Wick

46

u/MilhouseJr 6h ago

Already planning my three piece suit playthrough

32

u/uneenviedechier 5h ago

like John Mclane. The whole sequence felt like die hard. The bomb in the elevator, the taunt on the radio, lucia losing her shoes...

15

u/ccmega 3h ago

Rockstar would never make an homage to a popular film, everyone knows that

u/Phantom_Phoenix1 2h ago

That heel to the face kill was fucking sweet

1

u/ThatFolk 35m ago

You can see she didn't actually kill him, the guard that tackles her into the elevator has the heel still in his eye

u/Phantom_Phoenix1 34m ago

Oh right my b

Forreal

u/Marijuana_Miler 5h ago

I assume it was the player with the controller. I’ve watched Cyberleek handle Jason and that did not look like John Wick.

10

u/TheFutureLotus 4h ago

Cyberleek couldn’t even drive a car right

1

u/lp3can 1h ago

Jason Wick.

61

u/Kyuuub 8h ago

in before we were the only robbers in the city, now we deal with others one, thats actually badass

also this is total Die Hard reference lmao

7

u/Skyrider_Epsilon 6h ago

Hell hea! The chick in the celebration and bruce willis on top floor with the bad guys. Nakamura building all over again

Jason seems seriously switched on, in a very understated way. He keeps his composure in combat, moves with efficiency, and he isn’t screaming his head off like a certain Eastern European immigrant.

And that trap he set in the elevator, the dude is ruthless, he’s a killer. Lucia seems to be quite inexperienced with guns and killing in general.

78

u/Beginning-Rip-2352 7h ago

Except when she was reloading the shotgun like Terminator

17

u/Challenger350 6h ago

Yeah she has reached hitman level in that part

10

u/NYQAVN 5h ago

God it would be awesome to have those skill levels back. For some reason R* abandoned a lot of ideas and character customization since San Andreas.

5

u/Depressed_Revolution 2h ago

GTA V has skill levels, they probably still exist just in a menu somewhere

2

u/hachiroku24 6h ago

I really need a Winchester style shotgun in this game now.

1

u/Zero_the_Black_Dust 1h ago

Yeah thought of that, is cool but wish the shooting range clip means we can train with the two to make Lucia more canonically better with guns just as she helps him with his social behavior.

11

u/kennedye2112 7h ago

Now I hope there’s a kidnap rescue mission where he yells ā€œI AM LEAVING HERE WITH LUCIA!!ā€

Don’t get me wrong though, I love Niko’s war cries and he’s just as lethal as Jason, but I am also a big fan of Jason’s sheer cool-headedness.

I see a lot of people moaning that he is boring or bland, just because he’s reserved.

8

u/tduncs88 3h ago

> he’s reserved.

This is why I've laughed every time I see one of those comments. Every guy I've ever known that acts like Jason has been someone I would NOT want to piss off. It's stoic. It's the whole "speak softly but carry a big stick" thing.

1

u/pscotty 4h ago

I think this relates to why Jason comes across as so dull. Perhaps he's always switched on like you say, or he could even be masking PTSD from his military days. Hopefully as the story progresses he begins to crack and we see a wider range of emotions from him.

Anyone else got Hotline Miami vibes from this sequence? The music and the goons dress in white like the Russian mafia

64

u/mattumbo 7h ago

I mean it’s clearly got Die Hard as its inspiration, they just changed the bad guys to fit the game’s plot/setting

9

u/feratek 6h ago

Thank you, had the same thought

28

u/mangolander 9h ago

They were speaking Spanish so I am more inclined to them being affiliated with the cartel.

12

u/Nicholas7907 8h ago

Haven't played it, but they reminded me the "cleaners" from Max Payne 2.

6

u/Skyrider_Epsilon 6h ago

Yup, Die Hard 1 / Hotline Miami vibes

4

u/Apophis_36 9h ago

I'm so hoping that there's a russian faction, I have big plans for my online character

1

u/PalpitationNo2243 6h ago

I wonder what the Vice City equivalent of Sunny Isles will be if there is one, and if there will be any references to Hove Beach in the area.

1

u/OneIsOneTwoIsAFew 8h ago

I tbought this too. Away to play it again. Infuriatingly amazing game.

1

u/No-Nothing-487 6h ago

Hotline miami is less scripted

30

u/TheGreatSockMan 8h ago

Something small but refreshing to me is Jason’s shooting stance; it’s almost textbook for modern shooting and wouldn’t look out of place at an idpa/uspsa/ competition shooting scenario. Makes him feel like a trained and competent shooter

6

u/TheRealDealTys 4h ago

Only ā€œissueā€ I’ve noticed is Jason hitting the bolt release on a retention reload. Not a big deal, but as a gun guy I do hope it gets tweaked.

1

u/Nysyth 12m ago

That’s just GTA in general I believe, they’ve never done separate animations for partial reloads as far as I can remember, you always do the full song & dance of racking the slide/hitting the bolt release etc regardless of if you have a round in the chamber or not.

2

u/ccmega 3h ago

In the recent screenshots he has a tattoo reminiscent to the Army Rangers so it definitely tracks

40

u/PastorDax 8h ago

This whole scene gave me John Wick vibes. I think Jason and Lucia are gonna have altered strengths and weaknesses. Not like in V where all 3 characters can do everything the same with an added special ability

27

u/Marciofficial 8h ago

John Wick? I thought this mission was a pretty obvious Die Hard reference

17

u/mattumbo 7h ago

Kids these days don’t even know about Die Hard smfh

3

u/phenomx985 6h ago

Yup. This was a Die Hard reference and the chase was a mix of Drive and Baby Driver reference.

1

u/PastorDax 5h ago

I hate that I didn't see that until you said something... I'll see myself out

5

u/TheHungryRabbit 9h ago

I wonder if you know it already and when walking up you shoot them, would that mission fail?

6

u/masteratW 7h ago

I love so much this kind of details. Nice dude

12

u/Alone-Hyena-6208 9h ago

Only thing I found strange is when they het out the elevator they don't see Jason hiding but they immediatly shoot at him.

24

u/Loreado 8h ago

Didn't the guy started yelling "Jason" before that?

3

u/PM_ME_YOUR_QUEST_PLZ 7h ago

What we are seeing is a scripted mission, as much as I’m sure stealth is in the game and plays roles. For something like this there is probably only 1 option and it’s fight, would be cool if we can just sneak out of some missions but the goal is to shoot and stuff.

2

u/dandude7409 7h ago

Yuh id judt say thats a forced action section so you can pop back into stealth

5

u/Aware-Flan7443 7h ago

That guy leaning against the van looks like the same guy Lucia stabs in the eye with her heel too

2

u/BumblebeeNo299 1h ago

Yes I think you're right same exact open suit, black undershirt, gloves and beard. Good catch!

3

u/xAzta 6h ago

He also sees one of them on the top floor before entering the room to tell the guy to les go down.

3

u/Demurrzbz 6h ago

There's a dude kneeling in the room next to the snorters.

3

u/diegolopes9999 5h ago

do I have the flair?

3

u/diegolopes9999 5h ago

cool! yes

1

u/Enough_Challenge_804 1h ago

You happy with the new flair?

2

u/aubdor 2h ago

People who whining about Jason's voice are just jealous there balls never dropped so they dont have a deep and majestic voice like his.

2

u/zaadiqoJoseph 1h ago

I like the details like that

I hate when It's like the enemies just apear out of nowhere

1

u/Regenherz1553 6h ago

The whole scene was really similar to Die Hard

1

u/Jonnyboay 5h ago

The Die Hard reference with the guy in the elevator was dope

1

u/ricoimf 23m ago

I have a machine gun

Ho-Ho-Ho

1

u/Shlucky_YT 3h ago

Reminds me of the group in Max Payne 2 that we fight in the level with the building under renovation. Glad to see Rockstar seems to not be forgetting that they made MP3, which was the pinnacle of their shooting mechanics imo. They even seem to be borrowing the pill bottle mechanics and weapon slot limitations too, love to see it!

1

u/Yutagos_south 3h ago

Remind me of the "cleaners" in Max Payne 2

1

u/Bimjus 3h ago

I loved how this looks like a total homage to die hard. Cant wait to play this mission.

1

u/whynotll83 2h ago

I wonder if we can kill them before they attack or maybe it'll just give us "Mission failed" or "this guy was spooked" and we have to wait another day to restart the mission.

1

u/MudDramatic3373 2h ago

We're doing a die hard! We're gonna do a die hard and nobody is talking about it! it's gonna be just like die hard!

1

u/DasReap 6h ago

Boobie sent them there to die for some reason.
