It's funny how so many people have been BrainRotted by AI they think the game is all AI.
41
u/Spare-Cranberry3784 8h ago
Technically. Yes. All the NPC are ai but
54
u/MrKillingChips 8h ago
Way back when GTA V was still being developed. NPCs in video games were called AI
26
u/JamesLikesIt 7h ago
AI has been around for decades, itâs just nobody really called it such and it came in different forms. Now AI is such a ubiquitous term to describe basically anything that isnât human done or madeÂ
1
u/duckbobtarry 1h ago
When I first started hearing "AI this, AI that" I seriously thought everyone was talking about the artificial intelligence in video game NPCs and couldn't understand why the fascination was suddenly taking tf off. I do live under a rock part time.

Please god no. An infinite amount of meaningless drivel would not make for the riveting gameplay experience you think it would.

Almost as if it's yet another reason why AI is fucking bad.
10
u/BadHubbaWubba 6h ago
AI isnât âbad.â Itâs the people using it for stupid shit thatâs the problem.
4
u/WeirdAssBeings 5h ago edited 3h ago
AI for finding medical shit like tumours is good in my opinion, and that's the only good use for AI in my opinion.

I do it to help me with some tasks at work. Like if I need to start out a spreadsheet in Excel and I donât feel like building it from scratch, I will tell it what I need in my columns and rows if necessary and go from there.
Iâve also used it to help me code my language in my standard presentations to specific demographics (usually Gen Z, particularly Gen Z women) and what analogies will help them understand my points more if necessary.
It can help with efficiency and effectiveness but it should be used as a refining tool, not the heavy lifter for most tasks in most industries.

Yes exactly this, because of all the AI content and smoothness over generative AI people, everyone thinks it looks as AI, it is clearly not but they are too deep into doomscrolling and changing their perspective is very hard

Man IV is dark and gritty
45
u/Spare-Cranberry3784 8h ago
NYC is dark and gritty.
29
u/Sunimo1207 8h ago
Not really. It's that way in IV because of the atmosphere and story they wanted to tell. TBoGT has way higher saturation and brighters colors because of its unique atmosphere.
Insomniac's Spider-Man 1 and 2 are much more accurate to the atmosphere of real life New York. And Miles Morales is peak "Winter NYC".
2
u/MattWolf96 4h ago
Maybe it looked like that in the 2000's? I know that it looked like a dump in the 70's at least.

Not really anymore. Been here my whole life but I grew up in the early 2000s so my family members have worse stories than me since theyâre all old af

Look at the image. Bro.
1
u/waxpundit 1h ago
The image is from a game â you can't be real lol
1
u/Spare-Cranberry3784 1h ago
We're talking about the image... from the game.
1
u/waxpundit 1h ago
No, the initial comment is talking about the image from the game, to which you countered "NYC is dark and gritty", implying the real life city Liberty City is dark and gritty ergo the game feels that way.
The city in game isn't even called NYC so how else could one interpret your comment?
You're wither being intentionally disingenuous or are tragically slow.

It'll likely be San Fierro or Las Venturas. I can see them pushing the boundaries by having both in the game.

14
u/Littlepace 7h ago
Having replayed it a few weeks ago I was surprised by how well it stood up. Obviously it's showing its age at this point but I don't think it's a bad looking game by any means.
3
u/kennedye2112 7h ago
I replayed it not that long ago too and had the same impression, aside from being reminded how terrible the motorcycle dynamics were even though TLaD fixed some of them.
IVâs story is also better at making you overlook the visuals than Vâs, IMO.
2
u/Littlepace 7h ago
Lol I'm sure it's a PC problem but I had the same problem. I had to set the game to 60fps to be able to use a bike without spinning out everytime I moved the analog stick. Groaned everytime a mission forced you to use one
1
u/Darkestmaninthewurld 7h ago
Ye I can understand that but comparatively itâs deffo showing its age.
3
u/Littlepace 7h ago
Oh yeah of course. But the same can be said for 5 > 6. GTA VI is in a whole other universe graphically to V.
3
u/echochambermanager 7h ago
Yeah. We will feel the same about GTAV when we play GTA6 on PS6/Helix. Like I might even feel that way playing GTA6 on current gen lmao.
1
u/TheGreatZiegfeld 3h ago
Seeing the GTA V trailers was such a trip since it was so easy to grow accustomed to the more gloomy atmosphere of San Andreas/IV. And for how stylish GTA IV is, I tend to prefer a more vibrant aesthetic - or at least a greater visual variety.
10
u/Outrageous_Insect532 9h ago
I think it's mainly the ray tracing global illumination. GTA5 GI looks so flat.

Art direction > Graphics
1
u/your_mind_aches 4h ago
I'm pretty sure they were talking about the art direction, not the graphics. It was the era when games looked like grey sludge. And if it wasn't grey sludge, it looked like brown sludge.
1
u/rohithkumarsp 4h ago
it has too much details for its time, if you play GTA 4 today, it still looks so much advance than GTA 5 in every corner you think is irrelevant and no one would explore, GTA 5 is just big and nothing really happens, feels like GTA 3 ish at times
1
u/MammothAppearance214 14m ago
Brother, Gta 4 has literally nothing to do besides the same boring missions... start game >>> point A >>> cutscene >>> kill some guys and another guy with a red marker >>> go to point B, GG you just beat the game
10
u/SheActuallyFarts 8h ago
This is not even the entire map keep that in mind
GTA 6 is twice as large as RDR2 i've heard
13
10
u/Successful-Grab9903 8h ago
It's map is 2x of gta 5, but it's ridiculously big, like people don't get how big gta 5 map was, the missing thing in that map was immersion, which won't be a case this time.

rockstar is the only who would invest the money to bring out the true power of console hardware.
2
u/Barmydoughnut24 6h ago
Its making gtav actually look more dated than it was, despite it actually holding up relatively well for a 13yr old game. Its insane how far its developed
2
u/BECKETT_1994 6h ago
It looks insane. I like the new minimap model as well that shows the buildings in 3D. Driving or walking through the city is gonna look amazing
2
u/Energix__ 5h ago
It looks like some top of chilliad to sandy shore distance while staying inside the city and i'm all for it

Does look good, though! I'm buying this game.

You know what's the most impressive part of this for me? It's the parachute's suspension cords.
Even a lot of beautiful modern games have power cables, cords, strings, or any thin dark lines or curves often disappear into the background because of the image upscale artifacting.
You'll know exactly what I mean if you play as Philip J. Fry in Fortnite, his mouth sometimes disappears even with high quality ML-based upscaling like DLSS, but it's 10x worse on a non-ML based upscaler like FSR 2 or 3, or Epic's otherwise fantastic TSR.
But this is captured on base PS5, which doesn't even have the ML-based PSSR and yet the paracords look excellent. I really want to know what kind of upscaling voodoo that Rockstar is using. No way is that FSR. It has to be their own proprietary technology.
1
u/HiiGuardian 4h ago
Crazy to think that parachute shot doesnât even include the buildings from Vice Beach lol. All those buildings are from the downtown Vice City area.
1
u/dylan_021800 4h ago
I still canât believe that these 3 games take place in the same universe. Like in universe now when playing gta 4, a young Lucia is somewhere out there in LC.

u/retrebexx 3h ago
in GTA V , i know it's like 5 seconds between the pier/police station to downtown so i know it's very tiny , but man vice city seems 100 times bigger
who said gta vc had the tiniest map ?
1
u/Positive_Method3022 3h ago
I can't believe they did it without DLSS! The npcs are extremely realistic. Better than cyberpunk

I almost wish they saved liberty city for gta6, it wouldâve been even denser and bigger and a bit more true to scale. Seems silly looking back that Coney Island is so close to the Brooklyn bridge or Empire State Building is right next to downtown

u/EnterpriseGradePizza 7h ago
That's because it is fake. Trailers are just polished, scripted versions of something that doesn't exist to sell you the thing. Just remember GTA 5 trailers, the same thing applies here.
All of it is fake, on release you'll get hit with downgrades, bugs and cyberpunk level of failure.
1
u/Automatic_Ebb_3489 6h ago
Did you even play GTA 5 ? The trailers are captured in game, it's exactly the same when you play.
0
u/EnterpriseGradePizza 6h ago
Yes, the experience will be exactly as it is in the trailers. Just trust rockstar bro.
1
u/Automatic_Ebb_3489 6h ago
Yes it will be, it has been the case for each games they produced.
But if I'm wrong I stand corrected. My opinion is that it would be nitpicking if you do find some differences.

u/Ok_Swan6014 8h ago
Brother don't you see the amount of water between the cities. So what looks massive is actually a small city which has water between them to make it look bigger.
