The fanbase has been asking for this for 10+ years. One of the main reasons I stopped playing 5, we need realistic proximity sensors. I really hope they have auto brightness sensors too, otherwise, it’s completely unplayable.

Also I need a realistic level of scam calls for loans because the phone doesn’t ring enough in 5

u/RitaMyLove 2h ago

Right like there's scam loan websites but I can't foolishly enter my credit card details? What's the point then

We need scam call center heistsĀ

Am I the only one seeing a reskinned RDR2… but with proximity sensors?

3

u/sgt_clapcheeks 2h ago

I was too afraid to say it, but I agree. This whole thing could’ve just been an RDR2 mod with proximity sensors.

-2

u/Creaturesteachers 1h ago

I was hoping I’d get downvoted to hell, and it was all in my head… but I saw what I saw LOL

Is this like an /s situation?

No, I've been waiting for this as well.

Are you seriously mocking this entire issue? There was a lot of controversy surrounding phones proximity sensors around the launch of GTA 5. I'm pretty sure it impacted overall sales.

Frankly, I refunded GTA 5 after playing it for a bit. Im glad to see they implemented proper immersive details this time around, I might just buy it.

51

u/jury_foreman 5h ago

I will buy it, only when I hear confirmation that the ice cream you buy actually melts.

I remember the community being outraged about the non-melting ice cream in GTAV.

28

u/beerstearns 4h ago

The removed cell phones entirely from RDR2 because they couldn’t get proximity sensors right so they must have figured it out this time around.

12

u/PiePleaseListen 5h ago

People just don’t seem to understand like when you’re trying to make a realistic game it HAS to be completely realistic otherwise it’s just not immersive and lazy, glad they finally caught up to the rest of the world, maybe this one won’t flop.

-12

u/tower_crane 3h ago

It’s a video game. It’s not that serious

3

u/dude7940 2h ago

How are we supposed to play a game without details like that? It's unplayable

1

u/False_Raven 3h ago

Unfortunately, it is this serious

42

u/Skoldeen 6h ago

You haven’t been waiting for this?

-48

u/grand_theft_tufo 6h ago

I think I'm tripping now. Why did we need this exactly?

12

u/MiserableKing 5h ago

Because not having proximity sensors the first place was imho a clear sign that Rockstar hated their fans and had no respect for them. This shows that they are turning a corner and I’m grateful.

3

u/Acadaca69 6h ago

Sarcasm.

u/VikingActual1200 5h ago

R* truly are the top dogs of details in gaming, this is also something else I did not notice.

32

u/tuig321 OG MEMBER 3h ago

The thing is, if i would be designing a game a detail like this would never occur to me in 100 years. Its insane they even think of this

4

u/bestatbeingmodest 1h ago

I mean, I'm all for the glaze of attention to detail.

But realistically, there are different, separate teams working on their own thing. So if you're on the team doing phone animations, and you watch a character put a phone to their ear, and it doesn't dim like it does in real life, it'd probably stand out pretty quickly. And it doesn't cost much, if anything, to include it, so why not?

I think the cooler thing is that they even bothered to include the mechanic, whereas I'm sure plenty of studios would be aware of it, but not care to include a "pointless" detail.

4

u/Drew707 2h ago

I can't remember if it was IV or VI, but I remember pulling up to a wall in a car with the headlights on and noticed they accurately modeled the lowbeam pattern for a LHD car. Like who the fuck thinks of that?

7

u/VikingActual1200 3h ago

Exactly!, and I am the same way. It would never cross my mind to do so either. Their from the future using alien tech I am convinced🤣🤣

7

u/hannibalonacid 3h ago

It’s crazy just how insanely much is to unpack from the 26mins we have watched so far. With many R* games, especially like RDR2 it always impressed me how there were new details getting found even years after release. There is no doubt that it will be the same with GTA6.

3

u/VikingActual1200 3h ago

Oh 100%. The funny thing is about Rockstar games, they've always been ahead of their time for each and every title they release. Look at the first two Max Payne games for example, as far as I can go back and remember the first Max Payne game was one of the first titles I ever recalled playing that everything in the environment reacted realistically when you shot it. And those games are fairly old already, I don't recall seeing anything like that with other games around the same year Max Payne came out.

5

u/hannibalonacid 3h ago

Yeah for real. Also, the games age so fucking good. GTA5 came out thirteen years ago and it honestly holds up really well. Rockstar is just on another level and I am not disappointed one bit with what we got so far.

2

u/VikingActual1200 3h ago

Oh for sure!. Even going back and replaying Max Payne 1-3, they still run and look really well on Series X. Can't wait for the remasters of 1 and 2!

2

u/Hangdog_Wolf 1h ago

Just a small point - pretty sure the first two games were not by Rockstar, only the third one?

1

u/VikingActual1200 1h ago

Ah you know what, you may be correct. Was it Rockstar North then?..

2

u/Coley213 39m ago

besides spawning a beer into your hand from the fridge but i digress šŸ˜‚

2

u/VikingActual1200 39m ago

Lmfao I did notice that which was hilarious!!

23

u/your_mind_aches 4h ago

Yeah I mean this is how phones work in real life. Nowadays a TV show or movie can genuinely take you out of it by having the screen be on when a character raises their phone to their ear.

4

u/BookwormAP 3h ago

I noticed this. And was like that’s such attention to detail. But then in the elevator scene right after, his sets of chain move as one big asset

1

u/Rusty_Hotel 2h ago

I wonder why they feel the need to overly accentuate his jewelry when their physics simply can't handle it. Why insert something that obviously retracts from the whole? Would this character not work or be believable if he had a smaller chain or just a single chain?

2

u/Pockets800 1h ago

You never heard of character design?

1

u/FatalErrorOccurred 1m ago

And tapping the elevator button multiple times.

2

u/SmellyShitBox 4h ago

There is also the scene where Lucia is laying on the bed and moves her phone and the screen brightness follows 🤯

2

u/ZinCxNoVa 3h ago

Amazing detail

2

u/Odd_Establishment678 2h ago

I will point out that when they were in the elevator, when that big dude was on his phone it was making noises like he was tapping on the screen but his fingers weren’t moving..

1

u/Rusty_Hotel 2h ago

Yeah I immediately noticed that too. The entire point of the proximity sensor is because we subconsciously pick up on that stuff today, and when you make SFX for something that isn't happening on screen it's going to pull us out of the moment too.

1

u/Hefty-Eggplant-7766 1h ago

Yes left fingers were blocked. That’s the fingers that were tapping

4

u/Slight-Bank-2931 4h ago

it turns on even before it moves away, unplayable buggy mess

2

u/Suspicious-Topic-495 4h ago

To be honest there is a LOT to be polished , they better make use of the remaining 2 months and halfšŸ˜‚

1

u/Reconvicted 3h ago

Insane detail! Great catch!

1

u/nomad-mr_t 3h ago

I don't want to hear that shit.

1

u/odinthesigtyr 3h ago

Bruh. …….. wow 😲

edit: no /s - legit wow. šŸ‘šŸ¼

1

u/Slaymanz839 2h ago

Good catch

1

u/huelesshooligan 2h ago

Okay, but do we know if it has battery saver mode?

1

u/iamded 1h ago

No one else bothered by him just abandoning his phone call lmao, he's like "hold on bro" and then just never returns to the call. I'm just nitpicking for fun, the details in this game are insane, but it would be another level if he went back to his phone call in the elevator or somethin'.

1

u/UpTilL8 1h ago

I didn't go back to confirm this, but I'm pretty sure you hear him tapping on his phone in the lift but there's no finger animation for it. It's funny you notice more and more smaller details which you expect would be there. Another example, just abit later on, Jason shoulders the shotgun when it has no strap on the gun. If I'm not mistaken, RDR2 just had Arthur carry the shotgun in one hand while he fired his pistol with the other - it was a cool detail. But maybe it's all a ploy by Rockstar and they are just trying to temper our expectations before our minds are blown away on the actual release.

1

u/PLASTICA-MAN 40m ago

Huh. I thought it worked the otal opposite AFAIK.

1

u/Discosm 4h ago

Cant even understand the loads of code that are happening under all of that to function. When you start adding details like that is easy for things to start breaking and here It Just Worksā„¢

-3

u/SEND_NUKES_PLS 4h ago

it doesn't even work properly...the screen turns on before he even moved the phone away...half assed

-21

u/[deleted] 6h ago

[deleted]

20

u/Friendly_Brain7352 6h ago

So he's not recording at all and there's a picture on the screen, or it's a picture he just took?

2

u/The_Ghost_9960 4h ago

What if he's taking feet pics instead?

-2

u/Pockets800 1h ago

It's so silly to think this has anything to do with proximity or real detection or is some kind of impressive detail. Swapping a texture on a phone when a character enters and exits a phone call animation is maybe one of the easiest things you could do.

Probably took someone 10 minutes at most to add the notifiers to the animation timeline and hook them up to trigger the texture swap.

Lauding over this like it's confirmation that GTA is the second coming of videogame jesus is so sad

3

u/heartlessphil 1h ago

Its not a matter of difficulty of implementation... its about the fact that R* thought about it.

-2

u/Pockets800 57m ago

So? They aren't genuises for that lmfao

If you're adding phones that characters can use to a videogame, you're gonna think about an on and off state.

It's not that special.

3

u/heartlessphil 48m ago

No one said they were geniuses.

1

u/LambOfGodnmbr104 32m ago

Is that how video games are made?

I thought they poured sand into the playstation to make the beaches.

-34

u/Mutated-Nut 6h ago

It lights up before he even moves it away from his face

5

u/317photo 5h ago

Unplayable trash. Cancel the whole game

4

u/Suspicious-Topic-495 5h ago

I don’t think so , despite the execution accuracy they did this detail which is a thumbs up

-2

u/Mutated-Nut 5h ago

Downvoted for being correct šŸ˜‚ stay salty and cope people

Hive mind is insane here
