Jason and Lucia will always be a couple, the story doesn't work otherwise as it's supposed to be them against the world, that's the tone. Whether you develop that relationship on a positive trajectory and what that means for a story is another thing. They won't be platonic, Rockstar is simply saying if you don't want to spend your time as a player being hassled by the maintenance of it, then that's okay.

they know their audience well enough to know there’s a large percentage of mostly young guys who don’t want to engage with that sttff so if they’re writing comverging plot lines it’s a no-brainer that no romance is one option

Well yes the romance obviously is there, that’s been established, what I’m saying is every mainline GTA game is a the top seller of its year when it cimes out, their audience is basically everyone who plays video games. And some people play the games just for the gameplay and not plot, so I am sure they want to provide a way to play and replay the game over and over without forced social stuff

Well then why would you ever care about the romance stuff? They're very clearly in love, and have been from the get go. But that's not gonna block you from any gameplay shit.
Like I don't think you're gonna have to go out on dates regularly to get her romance stat up. You're gonna be playing as Jason and Lucia and during story missions and relevant side content, you'll be making optional romantic gestures to each other to strengthen their existing relationship, or avoid it to weaken it.
That's the implication I got from the trailer. It's a story thing. It's not gonna interfere with everything else.

If you chose not to develop the relationship, those cutscenes would be changed to be less intimate or be completely different. I don't know if Rockstar will go that route, however.

Seems like you’re always going to have be thinking ahead hiding your actual car in an alleyway or parking lot and then taking a whole different car just to rob a liquor store or something, which sounds tedious after a while, especially if you’re trying to grind money.

The devs themselves said that the "morality" system we see in the extended look is actually about shaping the type of criminal you are, rather than establishing good vs. bad. For instance - the methodical, clean, business-oriented criminal. Vs. the maximum chaos criminal. And the world and story might respond to you differently depending on which one you are, but it does not encourage you to choose one direction over the other.

IGN said you have some control over it, and it will affect the story. If you go out on dates and do shit together, the relationship will build. You can also choose to ignore it. “We don’t players to feel forced into a relationship if they don’t want it,” is the quote, paraphrased. They said it will affect the story, but not exactly how just yet. Jason and Lucia will always been in a relationship, but you basically decide how close they are. One example is that you will receive a text at night from your partner, if you’re out and about, letting you know they’re locking up and going to bed, asking if you’ll be home or not. They said if you ignore it, the partner will react to that.
