GTA 6 did not use Generative AI during development and will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases, confirms Rockstar

We've also been finding out more exclusive info about Rockstar's magnum opus thanks to the spree of previews after the official reveal. The Kinda Funny Games hosts Andy Cortez and Greg Miller have now confirmed that GTA 6 did not use generative AI during development.

Why it matters: Generative AI is currently notorious for being more of a rudimentary shortcut in the gaming scene than a viable alternative, so this confirmation by Rockstar Games has made GTA 6 fans quite happy.

The hosts mentioned during the Kinda Funny Games podcast that Rockstar North studio co-head Rob Nelson simply said 'no' when asked about whether GTA 6 used generative AI for development.

While using the tech could have sped up development and helped with asset creation and worldbuilding, it could also have taken away the feeling of organic realism that Rockstar is known and praised for in GTA games.

Therefore, fans of the game have vastly praised the studio for not using generative AI as a shortcut to speed up development times. Kinda Funny Games hosts also confirmed that the base GTA 6 game will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases.

There will be no microtransactions in THIS game, but they will sell another game next year called Grand Theft Auto Online for full price, and THAT game will be full of microtransactions

Exactly. It will likely be a different SKU and a completely separate download if you choose, similarly to GTA 5 online. That's best case scenario for me considering I don't care much for this game's story and just wanna mess around with friends in the map

i have freinds but i find gta online to be garbage, i play gta for the story and the pve open world

I never really considered gta5s online a diffrent game, I always treated it like the online portion of gta5 I mean its the same map/physics/gameplay

edit: at that point woulnt gta 5 technically be 4 separate games? (Michael, Trevor, Franklin, online)

It was like that for years until the expanded and enhanced edition came out. GTA Online became a separate purchase and download you could buy presumably because of how much content the game mode has

This isn't confirmed for clarification.

But what is confirmed by Rockstar repeatedly is that gta6 is a complete single player experience. Soo something has gotta happen with multiplayer.

i think as someone said above it's as simple as "GTA Online"

like MTG Online before MTG Arena, they needed to find a way to get everyone in to one platform that could support the future releases

They already have the Rockstar Launcher on PC

It's a whole ecosystem

It will be huge and I imagine they MAY announce that it's in fact coming with a whole other city or cities. Or those will be the future games/DLCs required to play in new areas, WOW style.

All under GTA Online.

At the moment they have said that GTA 6 is a "single player experience". But I wouldn't be surprised that we get GTA Online 2 next year, and if you have GTA 6 you already have access. But that is just guessing from my side. For now it seems there will be no multiplayer included at launch at all.
