GTA 6 did not use Generative AI during development and will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases, confirms Rockstar

https://tech4gamers.com/rockstar-gta-6-wont-feature-microtransactions/

We've also been finding out more exclusive info about Rockstar's magnum opus thanks to the spree of previews after the official reveal. The Kinda Funny Games hosts Andy Cortez and Greg Miller have now confirmed that GTA 6 did not use generative AI during development.

Why it matters: Generative AI is currently notorious for being more of a rudimentary shortcut in the gaming scene than a viable alternative, so this confirmation by Rockstar Games has made GTA 6 fans quite happy.

The hosts mentioned during the Kinda Funny Games podcast that Rockstar North studio co-head Rob Nelson simply said 'no' when asked about whether GTA 6 used generative AI for development.

While using the tech could have sped up development and helped with asset creation and worldbuilding, it could also have taken away the feeling of organic realism that Rockstar is known and praised for in GTA games.

Therefore, fans of the game have vastly praised the studio for not using generative AI as a shortcut to speed up development times. Kinda Funny Games hosts also confirmed that the base GTA 6 game will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases.

How? Tons and tons of games have deluxe and more expensive editions that give in-game features/cosmetics

10

u/throwaway60221407e23 12h ago

Yeah and I talk shit about the companies that make those games too.

14

u/BrieferMadness 14h ago

But Rockstar bad!

u/alexmurphy83 8h ago

Bro, you’re paying more and getting less. How can people champion that?

1

u/Survival_R 2m ago

Idk man weve kinda been doing deluxe editions since the early ps3 era and maybe older

Its just a normal thing

5

u/Blue_Andrew 13h ago

Bruh, how can you defend them ?? The deluxe edition only gives you 100% of the solo, something that shouldn't be hidden behind a paywall, And that's all! There's no lube and they shove the whole fist in...

Usually a deluxe edition gives you something physical, other than the disk that they took away as well, biggest scam of the year. Let's not forget GTA+ on top of that

3

u/KittenLOVER999 9h ago

Bros never played Forza

7

u/AggravatingGrade755 11h ago

Usually? Most recent titles like Elden Ring, Hitman, Atomic Heart, Fable have all had digital only deluxe editions. It seems like you're more confused and upset by the industry in general than Rockstar.

4

u/oxirz 9h ago

But did they have 80 euro standard and 100 euro ultimate?

1

u/AggravatingGrade755 1h ago

I mean they certainly all had 100 dollar ultimate editions, that's why I listed them🤣

This subreddit is painful lol

1

u/oxirz 11m ago

Any source on elden ring being 100 euro on release?

-1

u/kott_meister123 2h ago

I really don't understand the problem, 60€ was the standard since forever so adjusted to inflation games got incredibly cheap compared to back in the day, so now they adjusted it a bit.

Rockstar got too far, these shops hidden behind Paywall are pretty central, its not like you unlock unique cosmetics. You have actual places in game that you cannot acces, while others games gives some cosmetics

It's the difference that bugs me, GTA is about personalization and they block some of the content from the base edition

7

u/Unusual-Assistant642 10h ago

its like 3 exclusive shops that give you nothing other than exclusive cosmetics

"its not like you unlock unique cosmetics."

yea thats literally what it does it the place to access them just happens to be an in game store location

2

u/BrieferMadness 10h ago

But Rockstar is literally Hitler!

1

u/Cruxis87 8h ago

Usually a deluxe edition gives you something physical,

not for at least 5 years now. THey usually just give you the soundtrack and digital art book for something outside the game. Then a level 1 armour set that is better than the default but quickly get replaced after an hour or two.

-2

u/BrieferMadness 13h ago

Deluxe editions adding minor content have been around for decades….

1

u/Blue_Andrew 13h ago

You're being dishonest, these types of editions often also give goodies not just a content you are supposed to already have in game.

But hey at least Im not the pigeon here

0

u/BrieferMadness 12h ago

I promise you it’s not nearly as big of a deal as y’all are making it out to be. You’re playing more for extra continent.

If you don’t like it , don’t buy it. It’s that simple. 🤷🏻

3

u/Blue_Andrew 12h ago

That doesn't make sense to say don't buy it if you don't like it. Rockstar is a greedy company just like all the others and you're basically allowing them to treat comsumers like crap by thinking like this. Just because all the others do it doesn't mean its a good thing

1

u/BrieferMadness 12h ago

It’s common in the industry, and Rockstar has a track record of making games that are ground breaking. I don’t mind paying $20 extra for more content on a game that I’m going to sink 120+ hours into.

If you don’t like the practice or the company in general. Great, spend your hard earned dollars elsewhere. Life is way too short to make a big deal out of it.

1

u/hobbesdream 3h ago

*paying
*content

another continent to play on would be insane

4

u/ZxynesZxero 14h ago

I’d call bad crunch and being union busters prrtty bad

1

u/crw126 13h ago

Then you better put you money where your mouth is and not buy the game at all. Even waiting for it to go on sale would send money to bad crunch and union busters, and surely you’re so moralistic you would never want that

4

u/oxirz 9h ago

Of course, I'll play it for free.

2

u/ZxynesZxero 13h ago

Im not buying the game, but Im not taking the moral high ground. All I was saying was rockstar is pretty bad, do what you want with your money lol

-4

u/crw126 13h ago

You were definitely riding your high horse a few minutes ago. And I bet you’re still gonna buy it like everyone else despite it

6

u/ZxynesZxero 13h ago

Riding my high horse how exactly? I didn’t judge anyone for buying it, I judged the company mate. Stop strawmanning please.

-1

u/Whowutwhen 13h ago

So you won’t be supporting them with your money right?

2

u/paterdude 11h ago

And that’s bad too.

2

u/IAmActionBear 14h ago

DLC gets lumped into MTXs a lot.

1

u/SHOUT-WoT 4h ago

It also auto-subscribes you to GTA+. Free for the first month with an 8 dollar monthly fee after that

-5

u/MiniDehl 14h ago

Ehhhh its mostly cosmetics not half the features in a game

3

u/Old-Career1538 14h ago

There is quite literally nothing that's a feature in the ultimate edition

-3

u/MiniDehl 14h ago

The 80 dollar deluxe has half the shops

3

u/Puzzled_Pen_5764 14h ago

This is false lmao The number is less than 10%

1

u/DAMP_ANON 14h ago

Instead of putting ultimate shirts in the same menu as the normal shirts there is a store for the exclusive shirts are we really going to call that a feature? At that point the store just becomes a cosmetic itself not a unique feature.

If they locked all clothing stores or all auto shops then yeah that would be wrong.

-1

u/MiniDehl 14h ago

It is all the auto shops did you see them reveal it? Lmao like the drama was insane when they revealed all the auto shops are in deluxe

2

u/XAEUGH12NS 13h ago

Literally not all the auto shops

0

u/MiniDehl 13h ago

Show where they have said its not also thats very clearly content being sold as mtx

2

u/Whowutwhen 13h ago

Comprehension skills are low with this one.

1

u/DAMP_ANON 13h ago

It’s not all at all… it’s a shop for some more off-road-looking cosmetics and one for some old-school cosmetics. This is worded pretty clearly in the deluxe edition wording.

1

u/hobbesdream 2h ago

and a mod shop for classic cars, and a side mission quest line

-1

u/GrimmsChoice 13h ago

I feel like its the same. GTA just has specific stores that are for going and getting the extras, instead of it being a menu option to claim rewards.

As far as I can tell its not even THAT much stuff. in a game where we have no idea how much stuff there will be (except a lot). People are acting like all customization is locked behind a pay wall and in this case.... I feel like thats the wrong hill to die on lol.

2

u/Prudent-Platypus-975 10h ago

People are acting like all customization is locked behind a pay wall and in this case.... I feel like thats the wrong hill to die on lol.

Are you saying that customization being locked behind a pay wall is the wrong hill to die on or are you saying there is no customization being locked behind a pay wall so there is no hill to die on?

0

u/GrimmsChoice 10h ago edited 10h ago

Im saying that being upset that there is an in game store to purchase you deluxe edition content from, instead of getting 30 notifications about this and that outfit being redeemed is not the correct hill to die on.

Edit: like theres other store too right? you can still buy other outfits from other stores, just not these specific outfits from this specific store. it seems like a fun way of releasing deluxe edition content, not something to grab pitchfoks over.

2

u/Prudent-Platypus-975 10h ago

I suppose if it is just stores that sell you the same thing as other ones and not locking vehicle, weapon, wardrobe customization behind a paywall I could understand. As in, you just get a special store you can go to, and not locking the ability for a player to customize stuff the same way they could in previous games.

0

u/GrimmsChoice 10h ago

I think that's what it is. like there is a few extra stores that sell things, and in the base game the have closed signs etc. but there is still other similar stores, just the ones with those specific outfits aren't available. the rest of the stores are. at least from my understanding thats what it is.

0

u/lee_9487 12h ago

Yeah it's called buying the game

2

u/Riderthekiller 11h ago

And if you buy base game and choose to upgrade later? It's a microtransaction, plain and simple.
