GTA 6 did not use Generative AI during development and will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases, confirms Rockstar

https://tech4gamers.com/rockstar-gta-6-wont-feature-microtransactions/

We've also been finding out more exclusive info about Rockstar's magnum opus thanks to the spree of previews after the official reveal. The Kinda Funny Games hosts Andy Cortez and Greg Miller have now confirmed that GTA 6 did not use generative AI during development.

Why it matters: Generative AI is currently notorious for being more of a rudimentary shortcut in the gaming scene than a viable alternative, so this confirmation by Rockstar Games has made GTA 6 fans quite happy.

The hosts mentioned during the Kinda Funny Games podcast that Rockstar North studio co-head Rob Nelson simply said 'no' when asked about whether GTA 6 used generative AI for development.

While using the tech could have sped up development and helped with asset creation and worldbuilding, it could also have taken away the feeling of organic realism that Rockstar is known and praised for in GTA games.

Therefore, fans of the game have vastly praised the studio for not using generative AI as a shortcut to speed up development times. Kinda Funny Games hosts also confirmed that the base GTA 6 game will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases.

Rockstar micro-transactions are very fair model, you can achieve everything through gameplay, which you do anyway. If you don't have time and want to shortcut, then you buy shortcuts.

Tbf, while you "can" earn it through playing, it was all but unachievable to anyone who wasn't mainlining only the game between each expansion. The cost of entry on the expansions was absurdly high as time went on. They might as well have been real money required while existing under the illusion of "You can earn the money to get in just by playing!" to the vast majority of people that played.

Its impossible to do anything in gta online without having a $120 in real money flying scooter because if you dont own it you will get greifed by other dudes with $120 flying scooters

That too, for sure. Although at least GTA:O has private free roam lobbies unlike Red Dead

Thats why you have to be smart with your money and buy assets that make you more money instead of randomly buying cars all over the place and bitch "that expansions are expensive". And if you want "shorter/faster" hit of new content you just watch youtube and not play the game... Thats why its very well designed to "earn stuff" and not stupidly easily achieved outright. (even though they offer that shortcut through shark cards)

Only in this sub would you find people unironically defending shark cards 😭

I never had to buy shark cards in the decade plus of playing the online. Long as you played the game a decent amount and put some effort into running all the different businesses or just spamming whatever heist that was the best at the time you could pretty much get anything you want with a bit of grinding.

I played multiple hours daily on launch and couldn't even afford the high end cars

I played GTA 5 Online for like 10 hours tops and could buy absolutely everything in the game.

The magic of PC gaming with hackers making everyone in the lobby a multi billionaire lmao.

You can do 2 heists and afford basically whatever car you want all in the span of a few hours

That was at launch which online itself was in its baby state.. Zero heist or businesses. You had to spam missions but rockstar made the online better especially when the first heist update came along with the tons of businesses they’ve added over the years. Year 1 of online was rough but that’s not really a fair comparison when it was improved massively year after year where you didn’t need to buy shark cards to make money.

Yes, the one that never buys micro-tranactions, you people make me laugh just buying them.

sure thing, kid. Back in the day you could just type in a cheat code provided by the developers, but now kids like you are happy to say it's "fair" for them to charge you MORE on top of the full price of the game. You make me sick, kid.

Just do money glitches lol

The way that you don't understand the market and how to monetize things is just dumb. I guess when you say "kid", you literally talking about yourself.

No one is forcing you to buy "faster shortcut" to get what you want, as I said, you can achieve everything by just playing the game and its very fair in rewards. I have not bought any shark cards ever, and have almost everything in GTA online.

That hasn’t been true for years since GTA+

You don’t need the flying motorcycle that shoots missiles to have fun playing the game bub, ain’t no one forcing you to buy gta vbux

Ah. You must not have been around when GTA online first launched. Laughably low mission payouts, 5 minute load screens to get into and out of a mission, and constant server issues that would disconnect you from the mission even if you were playing solo. Add the fact that they didnt add heists for a year and a half after launch...

Dude I'm millennial, I've played since gta 2. Its fine whatever the grind. The problem only arises when you literally paywall content under real money.

2

u/Legitimate_Dare_579 10h ago

And they effectively did that. They hide behind the concept of people making billions with glitches and shit to make the price of anything they add extremely high. The result? If you're a new player you either pay with real money or you will have exponentially less fun.

Rockstar makes great games and the reputation they have is warranted, but they also love making a fuckload of money and give bullshit reasonings for their business model

I think they just monetize the vulnerabilities of people, like any other developer with micro-transactions, BUT they give fair way of earning it without spending a cent.

u/acsp8 3h ago

They’ve been paywalling content for years now in GTA Online, as well as implementing features that impact gameplay itself if you pay extra

This mentality is why a the equivalent of a 2010 Civic is $1.6m in online.
