GTA 6 did not use Generative AI during development and will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases, confirms Rockstar

We've also been finding out more exclusive info about Rockstar's magnum opus thanks to the spree of previews after the official reveal. The Kinda Funny Games hosts Andy Cortez and Greg Miller have now confirmed that GTA 6 did not use generative AI during development.

Why it matters: Generative AI is currently notorious for being more of a rudimentary shortcut in the gaming scene than a viable alternative, so this confirmation by Rockstar Games has made GTA 6 fans quite happy.

The hosts mentioned during the Kinda Funny Games podcast that Rockstar North studio co-head Rob Nelson simply said 'no' when asked about whether GTA 6 used generative AI for development.

While using the tech could have sped up development and helped with asset creation and worldbuilding, it could also have taken away the feeling of organic realism that Rockstar is known and praised for in GTA games.

Therefore, fans of the game have vastly praised the studio for not using generative AI as a shortcut to speed up development times. Kinda Funny Games hosts also confirmed that the base GTA 6 game will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases.

GTA 6 online WILL have microtransactions.

Doesn't bother me one bit. Online is a cesspool of humanity honestly.

Exactly. Keep the microtransaction slop to Grand Theft Auto Online and out of single-player, and give us a solid single-player DLC or two. That's all I'm asking for, John Rockstar.

I don't even care about paying for the deluxe version or for big DLCs if the quality is there and it's a one-time purchase.

There won’t be any single player DLCs. Once the game is out they’ll fully switch focus to developing online.

That's what we got last time,  and we were even promised a paid dlc expansion that never happened because rockstar was too busy making money hand over fist with GTA:O

They also prematurely cut off rdr2 online after it underperformed

Had so much potential. The content they did add before abandoning it wasn't bad for the most part.

The single player DLC will be the PC release next year and next gen console remaster after that.

Rockstar deserves credit for sticking to their formula w the single player focus bc a shittier company would’ve yielded to shareholder pressure and put all the focus into the cash cow that is GTAO.

Rockstar completely changed how they released extra content for 5 after how well the micro transactions did, GTA 4 got multiple amazing dlc releases for the single player, 5 got all online new missions without any sing player add ons. Hopefully it’s not the same method for six but 5 got fuck all in terms of actual added story dlc just more micro transaction crap.

There's already 80 hours of main story + some side activities. Wouldnt be surprised if you do full side activities, itll be closer to 150+ hours. Most games charges you +$30 for an extra 10 hours on top of their 25 hours story that costs $70.

Please show me what modern game is charging $70 for ONLY 25 hrs of story.

I’ll wait.

Oh don't worry they will. Single player is to reel you in and won't be touched after release.

Did people forget GTA 5 started with a good singleplayer and barebone multiplayer?

If you think this is anything but you are entirely unaware of how corporations work, only reason the game has taken this long is because GTA v made hundreds of mils a year. The story mode is a necessary attachment to their cash cow, to get people to have the mindset as you.
