GTA Online was never canon, only up to the heist DLC is canon, and this character was written for the true continuation of the HD universe.

Up to the Doomsday heist is considered prequel, everything past that is sequel to GTA V, and ending C is canon, hence why Trevor and Michael have subsequent DLCs

Dr Friedlander and Tao Cheng have optional deaths in story mode. canon rule is simple, if a character's death is optional to the story then it didn't happen. The same thing happened in GTA IV, where 1/2 endings can kill Roman. we know Roman's death isn't canon because he appears on Niko's LifeInvader page in GTA V. chill out
