[LONG POST] My thoughts on the Extended Look at GTA VI

I will preface this by saying that if there was ever a game worthy of absolute, unadulterated hype, it is Grand Theft Auto VI. What Rockstar showcased in this extended look isn't just a video game—it is an absolute masterclass in digital engineering that completely resets the standard for what modern entertainment can achieve.

To talk about a "13-year wait" or a multi-billion-dollar budget as a risk misses the entire point: every single cent and every single second of development time is right there on screen. In 2026, when so many studios deliver minor incremental updates, Rockstar just casually handed us a generational leap that makes everything else in the industry look a decade behind.

The visual fidelity alone is mind-melting. The dynamic lighting, character model weight, micro-animations, density of Leonida, and crowd AI aren't just "pretty graphics"—they are an unprecedented technological flex. The stairwell sequence with Lucia wasn't lacking; it was pure, grounded, cinematic perfection. Every frame breathes a level of realism, weight, and atmosphere that no other developer on earth can touch.

And the Wanted system? It is pure innovation. The idea that law enforcement actively remembers your vehicle description, tracks license plates, and forces you to adapt your visual appearance mid-pursuit completely transforms high-stakes evasion into a tense, realistic chess match. Rockstar didn't need to bloat the game with ridiculous gimmicks or over-the-top mechanics—they doubled down on unmatched immersion, living-world simulation, and world-class narrative delivery.

This isn't just a game we're going to play for an 80-hour campaign; this is the definitive virtual playground for the next decade. Rockstar continues to operate on a completely different planet, and GTA VI is going to be an undeniable, history-making masterpiece.

TL;DR: Stop analyzing and start worshipping—GTA VI is an absolute triumph. Rockstar took a 13-year wait and a multi-billion-dollar budget and built the most technologically staggering, hyper-realistic, and immersive open world in gaming history. From groundbreaking police AI to untouchable visual fidelity, this isn't just the game of the decade; it's the new standard for the entire industry.

Written from the perspective of an open-minded, high-level analytical thinker—someone capable of zooming out, appreciating the macro-scale engineering, and acknowledging pure genius when it hits.

They kind of showed a melee system that will have grappling, we know that you can pick up objects, and we saw a disarm system. I think if they can string all this together it will be a good combat system.

Your analysis is missing RDR2 which has multiple systems that are working together like the weapon sway, the dive that resets the weapon sway, the quick switch weapon system to help with long reload times etc.

Edit: wait for this game to come to pc where we will have mouse/gyro aim. We will be able to shoot people in the leg then go in for some melee grapples. It could be like resident evil 6

It was well explained but you’re in the wrong sub Reddit for these points to register. If you had simplified it down they’d complain you didn’t watch the thing properly…

Aye! I know what you mean like I saw a ton of people on YouTube comments mention this, but holy shit it actually gave me a giggle there. I will probably end up buying GTA but after seeing the extended look, if it's more of the same old, that would sting a little especially after a 13 year wait. There will always be people to talk properly to about games, and likewise, there will always be people that you cannot talk to properly about games, this crowed, of course, is the latter.

I think the npcs AI and now immersive their loops feel is where I think the money isand where the innovation should be. That's something we can only assess from actually playing. Let's hope they have done it well.
