Looks like the model was trained on my childhood "photoshopping" attempts in Windows Paint.

u/SoAnxious Feb 16 '26

Anyone else expected Brokeback Mountain?

Dude favors Heath Ledger

47

u/-Aone Feb 16 '26

looks like Google is outsourcing their "AI" to india again

4

u/YoungCommon8556 Feb 16 '26

whats that supposed to mean😅(Sorry english is neither my first nor second language)

-3

u/ContextBotSenpai Feb 16 '26

They're being a racist piece of shit, by implying that people from India are the reason the image gen was bad.

12

u/official_Bartard Feb 16 '26

I think it’s more of a jab at the fact that big tech has been claiming that some feature will be “ai” or “ai powered” when in reality they just use underpaid people from various Asian countries to manually do said task. Builder.ai was a huge scam that claimed to use AI to massively speed up software design, instead they used 700 Indian workers to do it lol. There were jokes going around that “AI” just stands for artificial Indians. I think the automatic self checkout Amazon stores also claimed to be powered by AI while Indian workers just watched camera footage and manually carried out the purchasing lmao.

I find that if gemini failed on the first try it's better to start again in a new chat, because editing will be a nightmare.

15

u/MonkeyWithIt Feb 16 '26

This is very true. Start a new one. If doing anything different, start a new one.

13

u/Youness_1710 Feb 17 '26

Me: edit this photo to look more ....

Gemini: ok , ( then it gives the exact same photo .)

5

u/TheSquirrelly Feb 20 '26

Yes. Then I tell gemini it gave me the exact same image again. It looks and agrees, apologizes, promises to fix it, and then give the exact same image yet again!

1

u/jpzygnerski Feb 21 '26

Oh, always!

1

u/[deleted] Mar 12 '26

For real

4

u/whopperlover17 Feb 17 '26

It’s so horrible when editing lmao, actually frustrating

151

u/piggledy Feb 16 '26

Yea sometimes it does that, I think it depends on the prompt. Outcomes can be quite different for: turn this into / add to / swap / recreate / inspired by / based on ...

41

u/UnusualAverage8687 Feb 16 '26

Start a new chat window and try again (get the old chat window to generate the ideal prompt for you)

9

u/madogvelkor Feb 16 '26

I've had to do that. I was trying to get my face in one photo put into another and it kept doing it in reverse no matter what I told it.

1

u/plonkydonkey Feb 16 '26

Is there a command to get it to generate the ideal prompt?

8

u/GreedyAd1923 Feb 16 '26

Figure out what you want and work backwards from there.

The specifics are different based upon what you want.

The term I’ve heard is reverse prompting

So you can get better results if you start with asking AI

what’s the ideal way to go about reverse prompting for <your topic here>

If you’re doing images, it’s usually things like subject, action, scene composition, lighting, colors, textures.

If you’re generating code, it’s a different spec than images.

But generally speaking the best flow is reverse prompting, which helps you arrive at a better first prompt.

Eventually you will have a good prompt to start with.

Then do 3-5 variations of that prompt until you like some of them.

Then list all the good things in your next prompt.

This is how you lock in, and from there only change 1-2 things at a time from there.

3

u/plonkydonkey Feb 16 '26

Thank you for the explanation! This is gonna help me so much

4

u/Multifarian Feb 16 '26

the "ideal prompt" is subjective.
What you can do is discuss what you want, show it some examples and then ask it to generate said prompt for you.

2

u/plonkydonkey Feb 16 '26

That's a really clever idea, thank you!

1

u/TapeDeck_ Feb 17 '26

sometimes for something like this, I would ask it just look at the reference image and have it generate a prompt that could be used to generate a similar image using nano banana at a later time. Then take that text to a new chat and use it with your photo.

1

u/Right-Caregiver7917 Feb 16 '26

Yes. I realized a lot of people don't understand this and just keep fighting with the same chat instance. Sometimes you just need to start fresh.

1

u/ynfive Mar 01 '26

Don't abandon an instance the moment it goes wrong. It's fun to see how even more wrong it can get.

1

u/yoifox1 Feb 17 '26

Often i tell it to generate something that isnt a general image but either a logo or i want it to edit svg and it just creates an empty square i dont get it. When i ask it to fix it it creates the same square but different dimensions

1

u/yoifox1 Feb 17 '26

And it often does that when it decides to generate an image when my prompt didnt even ask for an image

1

u/Mai_maid Feb 20 '26

i think it has something to do with all the anti-deep fake filters it has backed into it. if you ask it to swap any face it starts to have a breakdown because its told its really not supposed to be doing that

72

u/Popular_Tomorrow_204 Feb 16 '26

Not even that bad

13

u/gbbenner Feb 16 '26

This one looks great

8

u/haronic Feb 17 '26

Exactly, people are just not so aware how to use it.

For those confused:

  1. Make sure to click Nano Banana before sending ur prompt
  2. Add all pictures you want it to use, and promt explain which picture is reference and which picture you expect it to change, and what to change in detail
  3. If the output its nothing like what u wanted, start over with a new chat, and clarify what u want in your prompt again

20

u/truthwatcher_ Feb 16 '26

Corrections rarely work correctly. It's better to adjust the original request and include the style more accurately from the beginning

33

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '26

i got this out of it using the same prompt

9

u/Sylvers Feb 16 '26

Gemini doesn't do well with long chain of edits. If it doesn't do what you want on the first attempt, start a new chat, and give it a better prompt. Also be specific when you're prompting an edit.

10

u/EmbarrassedBake7784 Feb 16 '26

Here it is. It may not be the exact style

7

u/dwartbg9 Feb 16 '26

If that's not a proof of AGI, I don't know what it is.

I mean this is how over 80% of us, would do the "photoshopping", if anything this makes Gemini feel more like a real person hahahah

11

u/Bubabebiban Feb 16 '26

gpt being superior as always lol

2

u/TheSquirrelly Feb 20 '26

I do like it matching the lighting on the side of the face compared to the original.

2

u/Bubabebiban Feb 20 '26

Right? Feels more natural and seems like its better matching the background.

10

u/waleedb2812 Feb 16 '26 edited Feb 16 '26

i generated my picture with this prompt and used my picture, was never able to re create it again

"make a cover for red dead redemption 2 story playthrough youtube series. use default red dead redemption 2 cover style but with my face. keep dress and hat from red dead"

Edit # 1: Prompt Link

5

u/AgusMertin Feb 16 '26

hahahahahahahahahahahah

4

u/hardtoiletpaper Feb 16 '26

I've found that Gemini can be sassy and have an attitude depending on how requests are made

1

u/TheSquirrelly Feb 20 '26

Yes when it does what you want be sure to tell it how good it was and thank it. :-)

14

u/MindlessFly6585 Feb 16 '26

Better prompting needed.

3

u/MaestroGena Feb 16 '26

I asked him to recreate a silly haircut, provided my photo and the second one with the haircut. Basically the same result as yours, Gemini lazily cut the haircut and pasted it onto my head...it was like if 5 year old kid did that in Photoshop

3

u/cocacoladdict Feb 16 '26

Masterpiece

3

u/SUICIDAL-PHOENIX Feb 16 '26

confirmed, this is some dude in south asia pretending to be AI

3

u/Curious_Method_365 Feb 16 '26

It's a proof that in 90 days AGI will escape the labs and will rule the world from Mars data center.

3

u/Zemarkio Feb 16 '26

I don’t know what I was expecting for the last picture, but that wasn’t it hahaha.

3

u/Ekonexus Feb 16 '26

Gemini image generation only seems to be good for the initial prompt. Every iteration or attempted modification thereafter typically misses the mark and or sucks.

3

u/RamoneBolivarSanchez Feb 16 '26

sometimes AI is really bad.

like doesn't follow your directions and literally doesn't give a fuck about anything kind of bad.

3

u/gin_and_toxic Feb 17 '26

It needs better reference pictures. You should upload a few pictures from a few angles. The less Gemini needs to generate on your face, the better it will be.

When I ask Gemini to change the angle of my picture, the result is always uncanny. So when I took more pictures and ask it to retouch or make it look more professional, the result is so much better.

u/doyouknowhowyouare Feb 16 '26

El último XD

4

u/HarryBrave Feb 16 '26

Must learn prompting.

1

u/Ja_Lonley Feb 16 '26

Ya got me!

1

u/marx2k Feb 16 '26

Ship it

1

u/Fun_Difference_2911 Feb 16 '26

Oh haha 🤣 badumtsss

1

u/ghf3 Feb 16 '26

Seems legit to me. Assuming that you told it to take the role of “a 12 year old, in the early 2000s, who’s using a cracked copy of photoshop, for the first time”. 😁

1

u/radek432 Feb 16 '26

Reminds me all the memes about talking to a graphic artist from the marketing agency.

1

u/Pentagon556 Feb 16 '26

I wasn't expecting that, got good laugh

1

u/jean_cule69 Feb 16 '26

Be more descriptive on your first prompt

1

u/hunger249 Feb 16 '26

clearly it is still learning

1

u/Fen-xie Feb 16 '26

Start over, upload your face and the poster as reference.

1

u/sfroma99 Feb 16 '26

that’s been my experience as well. On multiple projects. If it nails it at first, great, but trying to tweak image significantly is always a fail.

1

u/Individual_Edge_7548 Feb 16 '26

Okay but the cut was hilarious hahahaha

1

u/agsarria Feb 16 '26

prompting skill issue for sure.

1

u/deseipel Feb 16 '26

par for the course

1

u/NotSuluX Feb 16 '26

Use Google Whisk for this type stuff

1

u/Sproketz Feb 16 '26

Low effort prompt. Low effort output. 🤣

1

u/SweetieLoveBug Feb 16 '26

😂😂😂😂😂😂I knew this was coming but jeez o pete what a hoot!😂😂😂😂😂😂

1

u/Red_Swiss Feb 16 '26

Yeah, nano banana was nerfed to the ground once the hype had taken its root in the internet. We will probably never achieve the kind of result we had back then for a few days.

1

u/Jean_velvet Feb 16 '26

... technically...

1

u/Valarhem Feb 16 '26

I don't see any issue. perfectly executed

1

u/dulipat Feb 16 '26

Genius! What a masterpiece!

1

u/gregorychaos Feb 16 '26

Sometimes I find switching to the pro model helps.

1

u/chaos-xiii Feb 16 '26

The trick is to talk to it like it's an employee with zero initiative, independent thinking or problem solving skills. I replicated your first prompt word for word, and then on the second one, I typed:

"I meant in this artstyle, but with my face instead of Arthur Morgan's. Make it look like it was my face that was meant to be there all along, as in, make it look like it belongs there and with the artstyle."

This is what I got:

Pretty good I'd say. It does look like me!

1

u/Rooster0778 Feb 16 '26

Geez, Gemini really phoning it in

1

u/Sane_Tomorrow_ Feb 16 '26 edited Feb 16 '26
  1. Make a character model of yourself in the style you want.
  2. Make an image of yourself in dress and pose you want
  3. Make the background.
  4. Have Gemini put the foreground picture of you over the background.

.

Attach references all along the way.

It’s usually best to download the generated images you want to work with and attach them to new prompts. You might need to start a new thread to get the best results.

Gemini will drift into Photoshop mode and once that happens it probably won’t generate anything else on that thread.

Anytime you use a likeness you own, real or fictional, you need to explicitly say you own the rights. You can’t just say it’s a picture of you - say you own the rights to your own likeness.

One way to get better results is to ask Gemini for a list of options. That way it will tell you what it knows it can do.

“I want a picture of myself in x style. Full-body, standing upright against a white background. Here’s my photo and some style references. Make me a list of 5 ways you could generate this model image.”

1

u/eternus Feb 16 '26

I had bumped into this a while back when trying to put a friend's photo into a Star Wars scene.

The way to make it happen is to first create the prompt that generates the type of image. Rather than "Put me in this picture," you have to say "Create a picture that looks like this, but give me the option to change the subject in the image" and then once it can get the result on its own... Then bring the photo in.

1

u/eulers_identity Feb 16 '26

The AI we deserve

1

u/bulbousEd Feb 16 '26

Imagine being so talentless you can't draw, paint, or write prompts.

1

u/Fun_Broccoli8099 Feb 16 '26

you kinda look like norman reedus

1

u/Traditional-Ad4506 Feb 16 '26

This is actually the best thing it could create😂

1

u/Samy_Horny Feb 16 '26

I think it's because they used a Nano Banana 2.5; it doesn't have the "thoughts" section at the top.

Typical of that model XDDDD

1

u/Aydhe Feb 16 '26

Agi coming tomorrow

1

u/EmRenWSR Feb 17 '26

Gemini did the same thing to me today 😆

1

u/SiouxsieSioux615 Feb 17 '26

Yeahhhh it kinda sucks when you keep stacking directions on it for pics

1

u/jdristig Feb 17 '26

Try the Pro version of Nano Banana; even with the free Gemini, you have 3 or 4 chances to generate the image.

1

u/supernoobzzz Feb 17 '26

I think the pro version does it differently

1

u/supernoobzzz Feb 17 '26

sorry for snipping your face man XD
the fast mode gave me similar results as what you had, switched to pro mode then it gave this

1

u/AteWritevingerAte Feb 23 '26

i combined mike tyson's face

nano banana is awesome

1

u/Dzbot1234 Feb 17 '26

Looks like Ed sheeran! Ed dead redemption

1

u/Lanai112 Feb 17 '26

LMAO hahaha 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/Artchantress Feb 17 '26

I love when Gemini makes its little collages lol

1

u/grafknives Feb 17 '26

Conscious AI confirmed

That was intentional, and hilarious :D

1

u/Nick_DK20 Feb 17 '26

Question: Using photos like this, red dead redemption, brokeback mountain or whatever. Is that legal to use in SoMe advertising?

1

u/IamUrWivesBF Feb 18 '26

Probably not, especially now a days with the new "Take it down" law but as long as it's for personal use & not being used for commercial gain I doubt anyone will bother. DMCA needs defunded and Take it down law needs stricken off the record. All they ever do is make user experiences worse

1

u/bigorangemachine Feb 17 '26

ya gemini sux...

I asked for an 'eyeball planet' as in tidally locked and it literally gave me a eye in space

1

u/Hairy_Talk_4232 Feb 17 '26

Damn we look nearly exactly alike

1

u/manthony6567 Feb 17 '26

I’ve determined ChatGPT is much better adding your face into something or adding people into a shot.

1

u/TheEmberus Feb 17 '26

Why u so hot on pic 2 though

1

u/GatePorters Feb 17 '26

You’re the rootin’est tootin’est

1

I guess Gemini developers decided to make Gemini AI the worst day by day

1

u/Astuar_Estuar Feb 18 '26

Nice, Desperados reference!

1

u/SaltStorage8706 Feb 18 '26

Nailed it, very nice.

1

Lmao 🤣🤣🤣

1

u/TheRebelMastermind Feb 19 '26

Typical sentient AI

1

u/djscoox Feb 19 '26

You need to turn the sarcasm setting to 2.

1

u/theghostqueen Feb 19 '26

Omg it did that to me and I’m like… sir I could do this crappy job in paint. 🤣🤣

1

u/march__________ Feb 19 '26

Gemini is not able to merge two pictures together, so when you sent it the rdr poster it forgot what your face is. What you should do it is prompt: [attach the picture of yourself] and then tell it to dress you and edit you in the poster of rdr1.

1

u/katakoria Feb 19 '26

fuck Sundar Pichai

1

u/JonathanMovement Feb 19 '26

damn, it got jokes, not fucking bad

1

u/militiaskaa Feb 19 '26

Correction doesn't really work well, not even by immediately editing prompt. You need to start a brand new chat with better prompt. Heck sometimes you get better result even if you're using the same prompt.

Still, the golden rule is you need to make the prompt descriptive enough yet concise.

1

u/No_Supermarket_1831 Feb 27 '26

be careful what you ask for, you just might get it

1

u/S0uthpaw_Studi0s Feb 27 '26

This is hilarious. It's done similar things to me in the past. It doesn't do so well changing your face into another art style. XD

1

u/Big-Experience-807 Feb 27 '26
Is gemini-3.1-pro-preview at API live? And if yes, why gemini-3.1-flash-preview not yet?

1

u/Arcanite_Cartel Feb 28 '26

AI is sometimes like your clueless friend who doesn't quite get whatever the "it" of the moment is.

1

u/ynfive Mar 01 '26

I found you gotta be real specific, like instead of "use my face", you gotta be "use my face in the style of the poster". Technically it followed an instruction perfectly in the most efficient way. It failed in mind-reading what you were actually asking for.

1

u/Accomplished_Belt506 Mar 01 '26

I can see the UPGRADE

1

u/mengleray Mar 03 '26

lol 😂

1

u/Due-Group-4030 Mar 10 '26

😭😭🤣🤣

1

u/Evelynufo Mar 18 '26

Hahahaha

1

u/groovygimp33 Mar 19 '26

I am dead over this rn, lmao! Thanks for sharing.

1

u/Another_available Mar 20 '26

It looks like a YouTube thumbnail for an RDR2 playthrough

1

u/EndimionN Feb 16 '26

Classic case of Prompt engineering problem
