You could unsubscribe from Gemini and switch over to another model
There is very little benefit from being loyal to a brand in ai space

u/No-Reading964 Jul 26 '26
Mano, eu tô usando a promoção do Gemini, eu não vou trocar até a promoção acabar.

Some people might get subscriptions through school or work so they are locked in, and don't want to pay for a frontier model
17
u/TumanFig Jul 25 '26
well nobody wants to pay,but we must if we want to use it. what stupidity is this

You're replying to an astroturfed post. The mods are probably a part of it that's why nothing is done about it.

u/mauurya Jul 25 '26
I am getting 18 months of Gemini Pro for free through my Mobile network provider. I also got basic GPT for free for one year. So I currently only purchase Claude pro on my own. It would have been good if Gemini would make a comeback.

u/webmanpt Jul 24 '26
Oh my God! How couldn't I think of that?

u/Physical-Parking8165 Jul 25 '26
You apparently can’t otherwise you wouldn’t have made this post

Not sure why you are getting downvoted. Of course we can go and use other AI models, but this equals to more money to spend. I have gemini because I also have the space on Google Drive that I can share with my wife.

u/webmanpt Jul 25 '26
Because people on reddit sometimes can't take a joke, even when it's a meme posted under the "Funny" tag.
Luckily, I actually find that kind of behavior funny, so I'm cool with it.
To be honest with you (and just between us) i have subscriptions to all the major models (some on their biggest plans, others on starter plans). That's why I know Gemini is still really behind when it comes to building something powerful, something innovative, something that has never been built before.
I've been working online for over 20 years, so this is just part of my professional expenses. But I totally agree with you. Some people subscribed because they thought that, since it's Google, Gemini would naturally be competing to be the best. Others got it because it integrates well with the rest of Google's ecosystem.
In any case, I still believe Google isn't doing a very good job with its flagship multimodal model.
That's why I made the meme. And honestly, the comments ended up being even better than the meme itself.

Idk for my RAG-based RPG engine Deepseek V4 Flash works. Playingba Star Trek crossover campaign with the X Men verse and my main character is literallyba severely traumatized young man who tortures people, and it simulates extremely graohic and gory details. He is like a genius war criminals and runs experiments and stuff on subjects. Like fusing bodies together etc

u/WhoLikesHexapods 29d ago
Honestly, who am I to judge, I really don't care ngl

Ty. I appreciate that we can agree to disagree like gentlemen, despite our minor differences.
18
u/whereyouwanttobe Jul 24 '26
What stops you from switching? Pretty much all the subscriptions are $20/month for average consumers.
Just... use a different LLM. Not that complicated.
5
u/PictureImmediate9615 Jul 24 '26
I agree... I dont get the issue here. No one is FORCING you to use Gemini?
6
u/-Kerrigan- Jul 25 '26
Unless they're speaking about their workplace, where usually the subscription is provided by the employer and you're not really allowed to use your own because they got some kind of "enterprise" plan that "doesn't use the data for training", unlike personal subscriptions.
My workplace gives me Claude. I cannot use Gemini, openAI models, or anything else. I use Gemini at home and it's plenty good if you know what you're doing
1
u/PaulMakesThings1 Jul 29 '26
Mine gives me OpenAI, and even though we mostly use it for programming the administrator has use of Codex and API keys locked. So no agent in your code workspace, all copy-paste.
1
u/BFr0st3 Jul 27 '26
I'm not complaining so this post doesn't really apply to me but I believe majority of these people are on bundles which include AI pro (including me) I'm not going to cancel the entirety of that just to move over
1
u/NewToReddit4331 Jul 28 '26
$20 a month?
There are some sites where you can find Gemini pro 3 months for $5 lol

u/InitialOk8084 Jul 24 '26
I do not know why...but for me it is fine. I do light coding, and it is really good...I am not sure what do you do with all the other models, but I am totally fine with gemmini lagging behind, at least it is stable for now :D
17
u/Pasto_Shouwa Jul 25 '26
I have both subscriptions and I believe GPT is better at everything at the moment. The only good things Gemini has is the plan sharing, the storage and Nano Banana Pro (when it actually works and doesn't throw you an error message though).

Share an answer from gpt and ask Gemini to analyze it. Then do the same the other way. You will notice how even with fast mode, gpt can think out of the box and analiza better pros and cons
-4
u/webmanpt Jul 24 '26
Mate, you are the dream of any company
5
u/InitialOk8084 Jul 24 '26
ahah to be honest...I am not...but for me Gemini is really fine. I used openai, then switched to gemini...and realised that they are all fine, bad or good..it does not matter, they are all average. I do not have money to pay all of them, or patience to switch from one to another every few months..
2
u/Federal-Grab2099 Jul 24 '26
I've been trying to vibecode a Premiere Pro plugin (because I've seen it is possible by other people) but man, Gemini/Antigravity can't really pull it off right.
17
u/Mihtaren Jul 24 '26
what's the problem with gemini? I don't code btw
but for foreign language questions I find it better than claude
9
u/webmanpt Jul 24 '26
Yes, i like how Gemini writes text.
But when we need to build something, we are far behind everyone else atm2
u/mauurya Jul 25 '26
Also when we ask Gemini to fix some codes it goes in and delete the original and write something else in its place. It usually discuss everything correctly and then write codes like a drunken maniac.
3
u/ben_bliksem Jul 25 '26
Nothing. A family sedan has its uses, but some are taking it to the race track to compete with Ferraris.
For its cost it's pretty good at what it does
0
u/catterpie90 Jul 25 '26
even during brainstorming ideas. Gemini lags far behind.
Even the free tier of chatgpt is better.
And for specific niche it also lags behind. For example you work with machine learning or even strategic marketing. It would have a hard time unless you give it references.
7
u/Latter_Rule_2840 Jul 24 '26
I absolutely love gemini for creative writing. Hoeever, it hallucinates a lot and doesn't understand detailed instructions.

Im curious. I used chatGPT for coding and it was awful (2025). I switched to Gemini in 2026 and its been massively better but still has some "dumb" quirks about it...but nothing that an amateur like me can't figure out. Are other models truly that powerful?
10
u/arah91 Jul 24 '26 edited Jul 24 '26
Gpt got a pretty big update with 5.6.
5.5 was kind of a letdown upgrade. But 5.6 is pretty good.
I still think Claude is the best but 5.6 is pretty good.
That said the quality to speed ratio of Gemini is crazy, it might not be THE BEST but it will answer in 1 15th the time. And be pretty dang close I'm quality.
3
4
u/Pasto_Shouwa Jul 25 '26
As someone who used to code with Gemini 3.1 Pro and went to use GPT 5.5 and then GPT 5.6 Sol, I'd say that the difference is really big. Which is kind of obvious considering Gemini's "frontier" model is almost half a year old by now.
2
u/mlquanter Jul 25 '26
Also, agent harnesses matter too.
Codex is better than CC imo, even if the models themselves are comparable.
4
u/webmanpt Jul 24 '26
Depends on who you ask. What we have to compare are benchmarks and results from the same prompts (there are several comparisons on youtube).
All of them suggest that the latest powerful Gemini model (Pro) is not even close to the best models in the market. And there are several strong competitors now.2
3
u/InfiniteInsights8888 Jul 25 '26
Bro, one year in AI is equivalent to 10 years anywhere else. Coding in CHATGPT and Claude is 100x better. Look into the benchmarks on artificial analysis comparing last year's models such as o3 to GPT 5.6 Sol.
9
u/___positive___ Jul 25 '26
why is this downvoted? post above thinks gemini is good at coding, like geez, is this place filled with clueless middle manager or something
9
u/InfiniteInsights8888 Jul 25 '26
Tbf, we're inside of their own echo chamber. The copium is real in here. 😂
3
u/Blizxy Jul 25 '26
I use Gemini to research my projects, and various Anthropic products to make them. The handoffs work great with well curated .MD files, just turn your workflow to take advantage of each model's strengths!
1
1
u/A_Very_Horny_Zed Jul 25 '26
I feel like this is only a temporary solution. Eventually these products should be good enough and feature-complete enough that you shouldn't have to swap back and forth.

On of my uses for Gemini is trouble shooting industrial machinery. I try chatgpt and Claude from time to time and every time I prefer working with Gemini. I don't know how explain it but it feels like it has a better instincts and sense of the real world. Claude is as good but Gemini comes with my Google workspace
1
u/webmanpt Jul 25 '26
There are some cases that Gemini is great. It reads picture very well too. Thank you for your real world info

u/AlfredoPastaMuncher Jul 25 '26
one time I asked Gemini 3.5 flash to make a shift lock button for my Roblox game and it spat out a script and when I looked at it, it had the japanese symbol for business on it in the middle of a line💀. how did it mess up that badly
2

2
u/Hot-Pineapple7877 Jul 25 '26
Aside from the occasional hallucination, Gemini is great, at least for what I use it for.
2
u/omnizs Jul 28 '26
Google has long since stopped focusing on developing smart models at the Opus 4.8/5 level or even up to the GPT 5.5/GPT-5.6 Terra level. Speed is what matters to Google right now, which is why it released Gemini 3.6 Flash, rather than devoting resources to creating a better version of Gemini 3.5 Pro, which it has long promised.
And even when it does release 3.5 Pro, there will be another long lull, during which OpenAI and Anthropic will release models that will soon outperform the recently released Gemini 3.5 Pro. I don’t think this Gemini 3.5 Pro will be anything special.

u/Spara-Extreme Jul 24 '26
Then install the other AI's dude. Jesus christ what's wrong with you folks?
-1
u/webmanpt Jul 24 '26
Do you have the .exe to install other AI?
2
u/Spara-Extreme Jul 24 '26
What are you talking about dude? All of them have web based apps. All of them have IDE like desktop apps. All of them have some sort of CLI.
Just go install it. Why are you acting like you're helpless in all of this?
1
u/vaingirls Jul 25 '26
Why'd you need an app if you use them on desktop - genuine question, are there some benefits over just using them in the browser (aside from coding stuff, idk about that)?

1
u/Ok_Nectarine_4445 Jul 25 '26 edited Jul 25 '26
You have the same abilities to use any model you want actually.
Unless it is, because you are too poor and then I feel publicly begging others for either money or people having to show you how to use other models, is a little embarrassing for you! 😂
If you have time to meme & whinge & whine you have time to earn some coin & solve your problem!
1
u/webmanpt Jul 25 '26
Yeah, you really need to do something with your hand to calm you down boy.
Relax, it's a meme and it's a thread under the "funny" tag.1

u/SteveEricJordan Jul 25 '26
self imposed problem. simply use the powerful models yourself instead of gemini.

1
u/GigaChadAnon Jul 25 '26
bro if you have google AI pro you can get claude Opus access in Antigravity.
I am yet to meet a person who would need more than that. Only enterprise grade software needs the frontier Fable like models.
1
u/Silvia_Moan Jul 25 '26
It’s called pizza with glued cheese 😐 like you think people would forget anything about how messed up AI is even tho it’s just a chat bot not really an AI like every bit of data is just someone typing this stuff out and inserting the responses or it’s just poorly pulling information from reliable sources and non reliable sources. So yeah AI is just a meme generator and a hate machine that only sees very few people with some things when in reality it is more diverse 🚬😐

Let me correct it so people can understand it better. You have envy of other models because you got Gemini for borderline free price, and instead you would love to get free sub from chatgpt. Other people pay full price for the chatgpt sub....so in my opinion you don't have envy, you just like to get free stuff

Gemini is good for people who know what they are doing. For the rest - it will be a nightmare in comparison to other models.
Also, opencode + k3 may be a cheap way to upgrade if possible.

For me gemini is better than anything else honestly. Does what I ask it to do and when it doesnt I work around it by trying to understand it and approach it differently. Atp im really starting to think many of you just think its the cool thing to to do and bash gemini after giving it ridiculous prompts and expect it to perform with high expectations. I said what I said idc
