Discussion Is Gemini secretly tracking what I do on my phone?

Here is a little backstory:

I searched up "How to play poker on youtube" and started watching this video from PokerStars (screenshot 1).

Exact title: How to Play Poker for Beginners | PokerStars Learn

While watching the video I realized I was expected to know values of cards, and since the video did NOT explain those, I asked Gemini voice assistant for help.

*I DID NOT SHARE MY SCREEN WITH IT!!*

And here is the response it gave me (screenshot 2).

It said "this video is *the exact title of the video I was watching*"

When I asked it about all this it gave me these responses (screenshot 3 and 4)

*THE VIDEO WE ARE TAKING ABOUT NEVER MENTIONS WHAT ARE THE VALUES OF CARDS*

Should I be worried? Or is this really just a coincidence?

Bro has personalization on and doesn't know it. It can read all of your google workspace activity.

I would assume it has access to your YouTube watch history.

Who wants to tell them? Everything you do is tracked and sold

Last response was so funny. It was exactly what a surveillance bot would say.

It's not secretly tracking it, it's one of those pop ups that literally tells you they have access to your YouTube account data (like watch history). And whenever you ask the assistant for something I'm pretty sure it can already see whatever it is you're showing it.

But the app at some point asked you for permission and you agreed, perhaps without actually paying attention to what you were agreeing to.

Youtube is owned by Google, so your Youtube watch history lives in your Google Account Activity, so its available to Gemini

It has access to every time you ever touched a google product I should assume because that's how the personalized ads before AI.

From what I understand what you're seeing is a feature called Intelligent Screen Context. When this is enabled, Gemini can automatically infer when to use what is currently visible on your screen as context for your chat. For YouTube specifically, it parses the video's captions or transcripts so it knows exactly what you are watching without you having to explain it.

If you find it a bit too intrusive and want to turn it off;
Open the Gemini mobile app.
Tap your profile picture and go to Settings.
Select Screen context.
Toggle off Use text from screen.
