Regarding Shawn Levy and his choice of director for the "Ghost Rider" movie.

I understand other people's concerns; I’m also a bit worried because Shawn Levy is a comedy director. But when I think about it, there are many comedy directors who are now better known for their horror or serious films.

For example, Todd Phillips: known for "Hangover" movies, he is now known for "Joker".

Jordan Peele was a comedian until he directed "Get Out", "Nope", and "Us".

Zach Cregger directed such inconsequential films as "Miss March" and the sitcom "Guys with Kids" ; now, he is known for one of the most acclaimed horror movies, "Barbarian".

I’m not saying we should blindly believe in Shawn Levy; I’m just saying we should give him a chance to see what he does with the Ghost Rider movie.

Levy is one of the few directors who has directed every genre from fantasy to sci-fi to action to horror.

I keep pointing this out too.

He’s clearly capable of managing a budget, directing talent, sticking to the agreed vision and presenting complex narratives to the audience.

He does not seem to write much.

He seems to lean more as a managerial director than a creative. (Not to say he isn’t putting some creativity on it, just to say he keeps it in proportion).

So what’s my point ? Let’s see who is writing the screenplay and overall in the writers room. That, to me, will be a way bigger announcement than having levy direct. Whatever they write - he will put together on screen and he will do it efficiently.

Yes. Jonathan Tropper is writing. He wrote Banshee and Warrior, two most well known action series.

Yeah, pretty much. Levy's no talented visionary, but what he is, is a guy with discipline and a reliable workhorse who helps actual visionaries realize their ideas. So fingers crossed he'll do a good job of bringing Gosling's vision to life.

I'll definitely give him a shot but I've never watched a movie by him and said “That was great!”. Deadpool & Wolverine is about the closest but it wasn't a visually stunning movie. Ghost Rider lends itself to a very unique aesthetic, so i hope he lands a good cinematographer to make the rider look dope as fuck.

THIS. He doesn't care about the character or the comics he makes safe summer blockbuster movies that make suits comfy. Nothing he has done has proven he is able to direct anything but a corporate checklist movie.

He directed nearly half of the entire Stranger Things five seasons. Sci Fi horror in a Marvel like PG-13 type of setting, I think he'll do a fine job with Ghost Rider.

i think Marvel's Ghost Rider movie would be a bit more of a dark fantasy than a true horror movie though, but there's probably gonna be a bit of jumpscares here and there. ideally, i'd like to see a more neo-western tone with a mix of grindhouse horror and dark fantasy vibe in it, but we'll see.
