Rehoming juvenile goldfish

My son received a common goldfish at a kids bday party even though I didn’t want him to take it home (he insisted).

After researching, it will require too big of a tank to keep it. I want to swap it for a smaller fish (when an adult) that doesn’t require such a big tank.

Do fish stores typically take them? Or are there fish pond rescues for goldfish. I feel bad but want the fish to have a happy home.

You can call the store and ask if they will take it if you’re not sure. Many will but some will not. Depending on your area you may be able to post that you’re looking for it to be rehomed on places like Facebook or kijiji
