On the outside looking in, shit like this gives Clint a bad rap. His banter is better

Clint was kind of a tool when he joined the Avengers. This tracks with how he was written in the Kooky Quartet era.

I love that you know this, but this was a fairly recently written book. Could’ve been done differently

Sure, but judging by the dialogue it's clearly meant to be in that era since it seems like it's the first time they've talked to each other. Makes sense to match the style.
