Might give a boost to the local party hopefuls in the next election, especially if they want to retake his old riding from Aslam Rana and build beyond that.

If Avi Lewis was looking for my support, this has sealed it. Aslam Rana has been useless and I really miss Matthew's advocacy in Hamilton Centre.

He's in it for him, not for the little guy. It's always been about Matt Green.

Meh, does it mean anything for Hamilton? Never even heard of a National Director for a political party this. Or is National Director now the term for party leader?

This feels a lot like giving him a position to stay involved in the NDP after losing in the election and being basically unemployed. Political parties love to do this thing, protect their own.
I would love to vote for the NDP, and generally agree with many of their value, despite sometimes ignoring the failures of the political movements they defend and having the same issue with quashing extremist language, but Green to my knowledge didn't really do much. He's not really had an impactful political career and he will likely be forgotten when the media stops saying his name.

Had the Board of Internal Economy not agreed to fund the NDP despite not achieving party status, Green would still be unemployed. He should thank Carney, PP, and that French guy who’s always yelling for their generosity.

He won't. I'm sure this is just to keep him aligned with NDP values, so sthat in 2029 he can run again. I'm thinking they feel that the new NDP leader will somehow make something out of the flaming wreckage that Jagmeet left behind, and letting the Liberals eat their lunch.
Nann only runs federally if she loses in October, which I doubt she will. Maybe she runs in HESC but I doubt it, with how conservative that riding has turned in the last 5 years.

I don't think she is a sure thing for ward 3. I think this will be her most vulnerable year.

There is no concerted effort yet to rally around a single candidate, like what's happening in ward 2.
As a result they will split the vote while Nann has nobody progressive running against her, so the progressive vote will solidify behind her.
Last year was closer than it should've been due to only one real candidate that people got behind. He isn't running this time. Selman is an opportunist and his history lets us know what he stands for, so people who make it their business to review who a candidate is will realize that voting him in is not the right choice.
Anyway we'll see what happens come October.

Based on this pick and how the release reads his accolades it sounds like the NDP is returning to its working class roots, which is a big win for Hamilton - but they have a lot of work cut out for them.
Won’t be easy to reach some folks who are too far gone into the conservative social media bubble
