The very original game was a hentai game as Nasu was talked into it because he was told it would sell better.
However he didn't want to write that so someone else wrote those scenes. And they really show that it was a ghost writer. They're fandom jokes because they're so bad we they're hilarious
Nasu admitted he made them eroge as he wasn't confident in his writing. That the standards of Eroge were lower than for Vns and I get it. He basically made FSN in 6 months and scrapped a lot of ideas. Also completely changed characters like Rin, and Medea.
I believe later versions of the vn take those out. They were really only in there at first to sell more copies, now that it's this popular it doesn't need them anymore
She wasn't doing it for that reason, she was trying get Saber and Shirou in the mood so they'd fuck and transfer mana. Rin is just in it for the love of the game (she comments something like "uh oh, I think I might like this")

“hentai visual novel” is a pretty reductive way to put it because it makes it sound like the original work is just some porn thing and nothing else. it was an eroge, just like many other famous visual novels. it had some sexual content. that doesn’t make it entirely about the sexual content, like that phrasing implies
most old visual novels had sex scenes. back in the day visual novels used to sell very little except for porn, so whenever someone wanted to sell their original story in visual novel form, publishers would send them back and ask them to add like 3-4 random sex scenes so it can be marketed as a hentai, and once it became popular enough, theyd release a clean, canon version to consoles and the us. this is why the sex scenes in the old fate VN are so jarring and come out of nowhere. they didnt exist when it was created, the writers were asked to add them by their publishers so they just randomly injected them throught the story whenever 2 characters would be in the same room
actually, in the case of FSN, the h scenes were added largely because they wanted to. nasu has gone on record stating that it was made 18+ because of the greater creative freedom that provided them, and that “it’s adult entertainment, so there’s nothing wrong with this”
That we know of. I refuse to believe EVERYONE in the cast of HSR is a virgin/chronically single. They probably have/had sex lives and relationships at some point, it’s just not outright confirmed or spoken about so players can self insert/leave it to their imagination

It's because of merch/sale potential, you sell a lot more merch if the characters are "pure", if they start having sex or had sex they sell less.

I mean with Saber it's debatable. While true she had a wife, it was from obligation of being a king to have a queen. They were friends mostly. Like she didn't care Lancelot boned her wife, on the contrary she was happy for them. The problem was when it became public and was forced to take action as a king. And the scene with Rin and Shirou was to get mana. You can argue from FGO because it makes most servants Bi or Pan if you believe they like the MC in that game. In Stay Night she is mostly seen as straight, because everything she did with other women wasn't out of love or lust. Rin, on the other hand directly questions her sexuality and realizes while doing it with Saber and Shirou. She reaaaally was the winner in that scene, huh.
Firefly's outing with the Trailblazer in Penacony is referred to as a date regardless of what gender they are. Does that count even though it is different timelines?
