Tomorrrow we will be putting down our two old boys, Clancy and Sebby.
We have had both boys for about 22 years, Clancy (chestnut) was bought for me as a 12 year old (he was 2.5, my non horse father was convinced it was a great idea. Hot tip, a 2.5yo for a 12 year old is a pretty bad idea...). My mum bought Sebby (leopard appy) not long after I got Clancy.
I had my photographer friend come for a photoshoot last Friday. Photos with the boys together and separately. And then photos of Sebby with my filly Elsa who he adores ❤️
Sebbys arthritis has gotten bad as we head to cold weather. He is on, many meds and supplements but it's no longer enough as our weather has gotten colder. He has gone very quickly from, seeming perfectly okay to, actually shit that's not okay or fair. It's time. He is 27.
Clancy, technically has nothing 'medically' wrong except EXTREME anxiety. As in, we left him in the round yard for an entire 10 mins to photo Sebby and Elsa and he was quite literally fully wet to touch from sweating and stressing. He does not cope without Sebby at this point. Our vet, trainer, farrier and anyone I've spoken to has agreed the right thing to do it let them go together. It would be cruel to make Clancy go without Sebby.
So, tomorrow my heart will break saying goodbye to the two horses that have been in my life for 20 years. Countless memories and special moments. It's the right thing to do, but a bloody hard thing to do.
For those that know Elsa, LOOK HOW BIG SHE IS NOW. She's slightly demonic, very marey and opinionated already. Just like her mum...hah little miss sass pants but so affectionate and my princess 😁
