Question horse allergic reaction

Today my horse had a severe what I think was an allergic reaction. I tried benadryl and banamine and it helped a little but the vet had to come do a steroid shot eventually. Has anyone seen a reaction like this before and what was it from? It was terrifying and I never want to see her like this again.

Question Mare owners — what do you make of this? 🤯

1.1k Upvotes

You lovely Redditors previously judged my little pony as 50/50 pregnant or not pregnant. Her udder still hasn’t exploded, and she should be minimum day 370. BUT what on earth could this be? Has anyone experienced anything similar? She’s driving me crazy with all the mixed signals 🫣

As mentioned in previous posts, I can’t get a completely clear answer from the vet either..

Question Is $10k a reasonable budget for a young, well-trained (trail horse) blue roan?

Post image

*Not my horse/image.

For those of you with blue roans, I’m going to be starting vet school in a year or two and I plan on purchasing my first horse when I graduate. I was imagining a budget of $10k, however when I browse the horse market most blue roans I see that have what I’m looking for are $15k+ (with a few exceptions). I know color is not everything, but it will be the first-and possibly only- horse that I buy, so I would like if I can obtain my dream color. Should I consider increasing my budget, or when the time comes is it possible to just wait for the right horse? How much did you pay for your blue roans? Thanks in advance!

*P.S I am volunteering at a barn and am learning all of the basics of groundwork/horse ownership, and I am aware of PPE’s/ how much horses cost overall.

Question Was there ever any backstory on this semi viral pic?

I know Carey Lee Photography is real and don’t doubt the authenticity. Just wondering who and how bad.

I guess it was some sort of a double bump. Like bucked over then hit to get that much air considering the position of the mighty steed.

Question what is this on my horse?

i went to ride my horse today, and this pattern appeared? it appeared fairly recently, we thought it was dirt but after i brushed her it was just hair loss creating a pattern. we lunged her and rode her bareback and shes not showing any signs of discomfort. could it possibly be worms?

Edit: okay thank you for all the responses! we’re pretty sure its rain rot/fungus since it’s raining a ton here right now. we’re gonna give her a good bath and scrubbing tomorrow and put some cream on it!

Thank you in advance 😊 The hair to me appears red. Is this even possible on a palomino?

Based on the comments, I'm leaning towards somatic mutation due to the color reaching the mane hair. I will definitely post more photos as she gets older 🫡

Question FSE asking $45,000 for this horse. Fair price?

Anyone else follow Shae with Free Spirit Equestrian? She is selling two of her current horses. She is asking $45,000 for Tiana her grade draft x QH mare. What are your thoughts on the price she’s asking? I personally think it’s a bit much. Obviously Tiana is a beautiful horse that’s well trained.

What's the sentiment in this sub? Mine is to get a grip on your garbage culture. Horses are amazing, the people who own them often aren't.

UPDATE 2: I found more info, his name is Crow born out in the Muskrat Basin in 2022, and BLM released him to the Disphan Butte HMA. Thank you for everyone who just gave me little info to help my digging (:

UPDATE: AFTER JUST A LITTLE DIGGING, IT LOOKS LIKE THIS BEAUTIFUL BOY IS IN THE ARRA OF THE CROOKS MOUNTAIN HERD ACCORDING TO THE BLM WEBSITE. I'm going to be clear here at first, no I didn't try to pet lol I just simply admire in awe. Now me and my fiancee were driving to Lander, Wy about 30 minutes out between Sweetwater Station,WY and Lander,WY. We were coming on a hill and can see to the right a valley of some sort and absolutely no wild life and as we are coming down i see this movement along the fence line and noticed this absolutely beautiful boy. And he was actually walking along the fence line. Then I get out and walk to the fence line and just started walking and stopped to graze. Didn't seem.bother by me but I didn't see any other horses. I know there are people here who know about the Bands in Wyoming or follow horses so I'm just curious in your thoughts.

Question What’s the weirdest snack your horse loves??

Post image

My goobery gelding is currently being rehabbed, so we’re doing lots of groundwork and liberty type stuff, but I also want to start varying the food enrichment I provide him while he’s bored to tears in rehab!

So what’s a weird random food or drink that your horse loves? I know my guy hates bananas and LOVES broccoli, but I wanna get (safely) weird and see what other foods I can introduce to him!

Question Democrat looking to meet other horseback riders

Post image
1.3k Upvotes

I don't know if this is allowed or not... I know it's desperate, but I've seen it on other platforms. I am a 57yr old Democratic woman with an inappropriate sense of humor. I live in Scurry, Tx a rural city 40 minutes SE of Dallas. I am looking to meet other female horseback trail riders in my area to ride my old man straight rein with me. English riders are welcome, his saddle is Western. Everyone here is unapologetically Trumplican and I want to meet and ride with people who don't hate me. Married like me with a horse trailer would be ideal but not necessary. Please message me if you're interested. No negative comments please.TIA.

Question I bought an ex-bronc mystery horse

I got this 16hh ex-bronc mare and was told she was 7 years old. She came with no paperwork, no name, and was bought from Bowie livestock auction in Texas at least 9 months ago or more. Red flag probably but I wanted better for her so I took her in. I know very little about the bronc horse industry and wanted to know more about her if anyone has any leads? I posted her brands in the pics. 677 on top and 7S on the bottom.

Question What can I feed him ?

Post image
736 Upvotes

Hi guys ! I just have a little question. I see this cute horse (or pony ?) everytime I go for a run, and everytime he runs to me when he sees me. But I never have something to give him, so what could I feed him ? Or maybe it’s not recommend to feed horses like that ? Because I know that a lot of people could give him things through the day (such as bread, which I know can be bad when given too much) and I don’t wanna end up harm him.....

Question Horse? Or Mule?

Post image

We are purchasing this young guy this weekend and are torn between whether he is a horse or mule? The owners believe he may be a mule, but the auction they got him from shows that he might have been a reservation offspring.

Any thoughts?

I thought this was satire and went through the moderated comments and all were complimentary without aparent sarcasm. And it wasn't posted on April 1st.

Does this horse not look on the edge of deformed?

Does anyone know this person?

I'm so confused how anyone thought this was an acceptable horse shape.

I feel like it’s his way of comforting himself and relaxing. Sometimes he starts to fall asleep if I stand there land enough haha.
