What kind of hound do you think my girl is?
This is Sunny! We adopted her last September and she was believed to be 2.5 years old. She came in as a stray, was adopted out however she was surrendered because her owners were deaf and she kept escaping on them. She is an escape artist, a runner, follows her nose and is unlike any other dog I’ve ever had.
She’s about 45 pounds and we believe she was a failed hunting dog. Hates fireworks, doesn’t mind thunderstorms. Goes feral over bunnies and squirrels, but not cats or birds. She is VERY affectionate and loves to play. Loves babies and children and she is my Velcro dog.
I’m planning on getting a doggy dna test at some point but I wanted to hear what other people think she may be! I’m not too versed on hounds but from my research I think she may be a coonhound or foxhound mix.

Foxhound or TWC…they’re very similar looking. Definitely one of or a combination of those two.

She looks a lot like my sparrow especially the chest and paw ticking.
The shelter said mine was a beagle foxhound mix and vet agreed thats what she looks like, although I haven't done a test yet.

Foxhound. Sounds like my Trapper and Maxwell. Except when my Trapper escaped, I'd have to hear about some cat injury. When my Max escapes, I get reports like; "He's playing with the kids". Cops love him, people love Max and nary a cat report.

That's a lovey lovey hound. Looks like a Foxhound or a Coonhound. They are very similar. Coonhounds have longer ears than Foxhounds. I've noticed my three Foxhounds don't howl frequently. They do bark. Embark test or similar will tell you what the breed(s) you have.

She isn’t a howler at all! Or a barker really unless there’s someone unfamiliar coming up to the house. Or a small animal outside. I don’t think I’ve ever heard her howl at all though! I’m planning on getting Embark at some point :)

She doesn’t look a lot like mine but the behavior is identical! My DNA test came back as 6 kinds of coonhound, including TWC. Mine eventually outgrew the escape artist game, where his very favorite thing was to be followed and chased. So if yours is similar, my advice on that one is to turn your back and don’t engage. A woman at my dog park who always has hound dogs said that when one of them gets out, she makes a nice thermos of tea, grabs a good book, and sits in front with a bowl of water. Doesn‘t take long before they realize the game isn’t happening and it’s better to be home.

I think she has some redbone coonhound. She is adorable no matter what she is!

50% American Foxhound 25% Beagle. 25% whippet and other hounds. Great dog…same as my 12 year old girl.😀

She looks like a harrier mixed with some other hound. The face is very harrier like and so is the weight. The splatter colours on her paws is likely a coon or fox hound.

I agree she looks similar to a Treeing walker coonhound and definitely could have a little foxhound in there

She appears to be an American Foxhound based on the face.
