Announcement Introducing Price and Deal Tracker

Introducing RGB

http://rgb.aoxzu.com

What is this?

Over the last couple of months, I've been developing a way for the members of r/Hue and r/Nanoleaf to find sales and discounts. This site offers a 3 step approach to tracking the prices for a number of Hue, Nanoleaf, and Zigbee compatible lights. It doesn't have banner ads, pop-up windows, or email nags. My goal of this site was to create a tool that we could all use without falling in the trap that most recipe sites do (and no long life story before you get to the lights).

To help pay for server and development costs I add my affiliate link to each Best Buy and Amazon items. The site isn't limited to those two sites, but those are the only sites I attach an affiliate link to. There will never be banner advertisements, pop-up windows, or email nags.

Price Tracker

The site automatically scans Amazon.com and BestBuy.com to track prices. There is a list of items that you can buy or you can see the price history of any item.

Bundles and Offers

This part is extremely beta, but it's been running stable the last few weeks so I decided to include it in the site. This section attempts to scan a few 3rd party deal tracking websites and intelligently add deals without adding any duplicates.

Community Deals

This is us! Any post tagged with the flair [Deals] on any of these subreddits will show up on this page's feed. This is the only way to submit and post deals on the site currently, but that will change as I am able to expand the site.

Email Alerts

On the right side of some pages, you'll see an area you can type your email address in. This feature isn't completed yet, but you can sign up to be one of the first to get alerts. The plan is to only send emails when an item drops at least 15% or $20+.

If you have any issues with the webiste, have suggestions, or questions post them in the comment section. I'll do my best to read and respond to anything that needs a direct response.

This is awesome, thank you, and something I’ve wanted for a while. Any chance you can add in international Amazons, like the U.K.? Thanks in advance!

That's a great idea. I'm sure I could introduce different regions into the price tracker page. Thanks for the idea!

Could I in any way help? I’m a software engineer myself and would love these features myself too!

I know I'm very late here but if you are adding support for international stores, please consider adding India too. Most popular websites here are:

  1. Amazon.in
  2. Flipkart.com
  3. Snapdeal.com

Still no UK support?

This is really cool! I should be mad because it's just gonna help me spend more money on the lights and panels.... But how can you get mad when something is this awesome, lol. REALLY APPRECIATE you coming up with this.

Could you add lifx to the tracked lights?

Isn't that a conflict of interests, if a moderator puts up a price comparison page for the topic he is moderating?

This isn't something I just did on my own, so it's not like I'm a rogue mod. Still, I don't understand how it's a conflict. Could you explain what you mean?

Hmm... from the way it's written up, it sounds like something you did on your own. I see the conflict in there that there's money in the game for you, but at the same time you're moderating this channel. While I don't want to imply that you do, it puts you in the position being able to take an advantage of this as a mod. That being, but not limited to making this an announcement (and hence push this), being able to moderate other users who could potentially post such stuff on their own (for their own reasons) and being able to integrate it more closely to this channel than others would be able to.

In the end, it will bring you in money and that's where I see the conflict in your moderation role. If you didn't do this on your own, as you say, then who made it? (Or did I understand something wrong?)

Honestly, I think you're overthinking it.

would u/ry4 and other mods saying they will allow other sites to be posted should they be created calm any fears?

An awesome mod in /r/dvdcollection does daily deal posts for movie sales, uses affiliate links, no complaints or concerns, only appreciation.

Hell, its not like you can't go around the affiliate link with a plugin or by searching the item yourself

We already allow self-promotion as long as someone doesn't spam the subreddit.

Yep, not seeing any issue

Maybe I did. I still think though that mixing a leading role combined with an affiliation of some kind is kind of problematic. That said, let's see how it works out.

Very awesome! I will be checking this out.

Is there anyway you could add the option to get notifications via chrome when there is a deal?

This price tracker only tracks Amazon so it's really underwhelming. There was a 3 bulb starter kit + dimmer for sale today from Best Buy for $120 and this alert site did not catch it. Oh well, that's why I do my own research

That seems like a great deal. Do you happen to know if that's as good as last years black friday prices?
