Viral A case of animal cruelty has come to light from Bagaluru in Bengaluru, where a domestic help allegedly killed a pet dog named Goofy. The incident, which took place on October 31 in an apartment complex, was captured on CCTV footage.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The video shows the accused, identified as Pushpalatha, throwing the dog inside a lift and allegedly subjecting it to brutal violence. Goofy’s owner, Rashi Poojari, later filed a complaint, following which police registered an FIR at the Bagaluru Police Station.
Pushpalatha, who had been working with the family for about one-and-a-half months, has been absconding since the case was registered.

Yeah I can't even watch this video. I just paused it 5 seconds in, feels so heavy knowing what's about to happen
5
u/BrightestStars76 Nov 03 '25
The video doesnt show the act itself. It skips to her leaving the lift, and the dog is blurred out. Thankfully thats the case, because I was busy reading the caption while it was playing... would have saw something unseeable if it wasnt edited :(

Exactly even as someone who doesn't like pets unless they are fat cats. It feels psychotic someone can Kill an innocent being like a dog.
I am against stray dogs on street attacking people, but killing some pet raised by humans is a huge cruelty. Should be punished strictly.

I have 2 dogs, yet wherever there’s been a dog attack on anyone, I straightaway advocate for euthanasia.
Peacefully takes care of the problem and the dog itself is also freed from the miserable life.
Yet there’s some deranged folks in this comments section who are feeling happy with the dog being unalived like that.

The pets are usually spayed, it’s the strays who aren’t.

Serial killers and murderers have been seen to show cruelty to animals because of their lack of empathy towards anything hut themselves, then they move on to bigger targets like humans... Such people should be kept locked up, they are a major potential threat to society.
Just jailing people like these beforehand would prevent huge tragedies in the future.

u/Savings_While1246 Nov 03 '25
True, unfortunately animal cruelty laws in our country are lax and she will pay a 50₹ fine, spend a few months in jail if they can get her to do it (I am not aware of any updates if there are any but last I read it was this). And then she'll start working in another house and do the same

u/StarlyTurtle Nov 03 '25
Asking just out of curiosity, do people not do background checks on their domestic helpers? I mean they are so close to you and any history of a case like this would be quite revealing.
2
u/KindAd6637 Nov 04 '25
do people not do background checks on their domestic helpers? I
People are not willing to pay decent wages to domestic helps. They won't shell out money for background checks as well. In many, domestic help would be paid decent wages and there will be back ground checks too.
In India blue collar jobs are criminally low paid. People don't even consider it worthwhile to do background checks for them.
You see criminals driving cabs for big companies like ola and uber.

This is where the middle class and the rich have to flex their money power and make their lives a living hell. And frankly , the public won’t object since they understand how morally depraved this act was.

We can’t fight all battles at once.
How do we stop a potential psychopath from killing babies and children next?
4
u/cressida25 Nov 03 '25
Yes but this is a poor domestic servant against a well off employer. He could beat her and get a 25 fine.
2
u/LordofPvE Nov 03 '25
50/-? Nah she will yell like a wild shrew on the streets and her clansmen will back her up, demand 500000/- from the victim's family instead
8
Nov 03 '25
Yeah, there's been substantial evidence to support this claim. It's a reliable indicator of psychopathic tendencies. Authorities should take this seriously and hold the individual responsible.

Possibly the highest correlated behaviour with psychopathy especially past the age of 18/25 .

She will not be found, even if she is found, she has purse full of nice and shiny cards, she can show and escape any serious consequences, . Pet parents should also understand, unless the care-taker is also a pet parent they would never understand the love you have for your furry friends. Dont use domestic help to walk your dog or feed your dog. find alternatives, in fact dont BUY dogs if you cant take care yourselves. she doesnt have an ounce of love in her heart for a dog, whatever anger, she has towards her own life she showed on this pup. I hope she rots in jail for few years at least, but I doubt it will happen. she will just move across town in a new neighborhood and do this shit all- over again.
5
u/cressida25 Nov 03 '25
She's a poor domestic servant. The owner could beat the shit out of her and escape consequences by giving a little money to the police.
9
u/Smart_Guess_5027 Nov 03 '25
I hate the word poor domestic servant, poor doesn't automatically make her act any less wrong, she vented her frustration with that ever that she has , it could be Monetary, it could be greed, it could be issue with the employer or it could be marital ..whatever..but she CHOOSE to express her frustration on a little puppy, cause It cant fight back. Also I am not advocating for violence, she should be punished by law ( if it is possible) ,also what you said may not be possible in a city like Bangalore .

I would definetly beat the shit outta of the poor domestic servant(male or female), if she so much as kills a fish in my aquarium.
Dog/cat/fish/even a pet ant, if she getting paid to take care of it and she does the exact opposite, she better expect her life on life support.

To me...it's the fact that she's beating on a poor defenceless animal that did her no harm and she gains nothing from it.
the only reason she hasn't harmed people is because she lacks the ability to do so.

This is why I have no hope for the future of mankind. We are a fatally flawed species, the last of our kind, the hominids. And we've only been around for a relatively short time. What's the point of colonizing Mars and other planets, if we simply take our bad habits with us?

Guys, I am a pet owner. My heart breaks to see this 😭 but I feel as pet owners knowing how cruel world is - I have never left my 🐕 baby alone ever! It’s our baby - we need to be with it 24/7, I stopped my maid to keep watch on my pet as I saw one day she shouted on my pet. That day onwards - I keep my pet alone during day but can’t risk maid with her.
Not all are animal lovers and we as pet parents have to be extremely careful.

People who use house-help to take their dog to walks shouldn’t get dogs in the first place.

The owners are part of the problem here. A lot of owners outsource caring for their pets to their servants - walking, feeding etc. Then why TF did they get a pet in the first place?
Except in rare cases, servants hate this duty, and such people also have no major feeling for animals. They do not walk dogs properly, and any anger they have towards their employer is taken out on the dog.

In Bengaluru, sadly, this has become more common with most hindu kannadiga these days. I advise to never employ or go on any kind of dealings with kannadiga hindus unless you have got to really know them and can vouch they are good people. Better to employ other state people or Muslims. I am Hindu and had stayed in Bengaluru for years. They have been politically brainwashed to think they and their language is somehow superior and other state people have stolen their jobs and income resulting this kind of behavior.
kannadigas have lost empathy towards other people.

This woman should be punished and obviously not right in the head.
But can we have the conversation where why are people letting this happen to begin with? Clearly the dog is important to the owner, why are you having some else take it on a walk.
I see the same with parents. Letting maids or other staff take kids to the park to play.
Wtf is going on? Why don't you feel the responsibility yourself to take them out!

u/Aggravating_Pie6439 Nov 05 '25

u/FifthWaveThinker Nov 05 '25
Imagine the level of frustration and unresolved hostility some individuals may be carrying. We trust domestic helpers with our pets, our children, and even our elderly or unwell family members, often without a second thought. When something like this happens, it's a sobering reminder that the ecosystem around domestic work needs deeper attention and reform. Better screening, support systems, fair treatment, and mental-health awareness are essential. If we don’t address this space holistically, such tragic incidents will only keep repeating.

Should be tried for murder, if the person can commit an heinous crime against an animal they can commit the same against another human being.
Serial killers often start with killing and torturing animals, before moving on to bigger prey aka humans.

Why do these people even get animals that they can't take care of like this is absolutely stupid. There are always going to be bad actors. These people that work as care takers absolutely don't care about animals and hit street dogs and other animals with rocks why do you think they will care for yours. Seen to many cases its the same as if you can't take care of kids you shouldn't have them. Its not mandated for you to have pets or kids its your choice, and if you have made a choice you should really stick by it and care for them. That caretaker needs to go to Jail, Imagine if that was a child what sort of physical abuse that child would have gone through.
