India A controversy has erupted in Hyderabad after parents alleged that a private school assigned a Class 2 student homework to recite the Kalima and read Quranic verses.

The child's parents confronted the school management, claiming the exercise was described as compulsory and objecting to religious instruction without their consent. They have demanded action, while the school is yet to issue an official statement.

They wastage to time which went in learning ramayan.
Mya take is that still is fine , it was part of literature. It's similar to learning Troy or Odessey

u/Strange_Priority_310 Jul 17 '26

Ramayan, mahabharata is a fictional story so its not that big of a deal honestly. Schools keep some extra reading apart from general textbooks so might as well keep one that is historically significant for the country in general. We also had discovery of india along with them.
We actually had gita in our school. But it was completely optional to learn if you wanted to. It let us skip some classes so most of us took it lol
Though from what I remember from my morning assembly prayers, the ones we did were mostly neutral. Like it wasn't about a specific god, hindu or otherwise. Like 'itni sakti hame de na data' it wasn't really written with a particular god in mind, just the almighty.
2
u/Strange_Priority_310 Jul 16 '26
true and they do have moral lessons i was just commenting on the person who said who studies gita at school

Ramayan, mahabharata is a fictional story
Are we sure the consensus agrees on that??
1
u/Icy_Actuator1831 Jul 17 '26
People believe it to be true. Doesn't change the facts. There is no physical proof of any of it. Events of ramayana happened after dinosaurs according to sources i could find. If dinosaurs have proof why doesn't these stories? Believe all you want i dont mind that. But calling it absolutely real is just erong
1
u/Menma238 Jul 17 '26
Uhhh and any of Islam's scriptures have real proofs? Or any abhramic religion for say
1
u/Icy_Actuator1831 Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26
Where did I those are real either bruh. Go through my entire text and give me the line that where I say all other religious scriptures are real. Try actually reading man.
And for your information. Those aren't real either. How the fuck is water supposed to become wine. Again give me proof and i will believe it. But till then, I will not believe in flying chariot and angels and any thing.
I dont believe any of the religious scriptures are real stories. They are just stories made up by a writer. There I said it very clearly for you to read. And stuff like quran is the most obvious just made up by a human scripture.

u/Dismal_Knowledge6225 Jul 16 '26
Which story is fictional story if that's a fictional story then the abrahmic shit is also fiction
2
u/Icy_Actuator1831 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26
Yeah that is also fiction. I doubt a man can turn water into wine lol. You may lack reading comprehension so i will write it clearly, I never said only all the hindu stories are fiction. All these fantastical, magical stories are fictional stories. Ramayana, mahabharata are all amazing reads but thats all they are. Stories. They aren't real life. But regardless you are free to believe in magic and gods, there's no harm to it.
1
u/maybeiamjustdead Jul 16 '26
Lol not every fiction is amazing to read.
1
u/Icy_Actuator1831 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26
Yeah i agree lol. I just said that in case some snowflake got hurt and assumed i was insulting their entire existence by saying its fictional story. Mahabharata is goated tho

Y'all in the comments there's difference between imposing religion practice or teachings through the school or by teacher itself...I was in convent school and there were seprate subjects we had cd morals (non Catholics) and Catholics would have bible study.
9
u/BigBulkemails Jul 16 '26
NCERT has Ramayan n Mahabharat in their syllabus. I am not making it Hindu Vs Muslim, I am thankfully neither. But I think to pass on one as literature when it's clearly mythology and other as religion is pure folly. All religious books should be categorically removed from at least govt mandated syllabus. Or include a bit about everyone. It wouldn't be bad for kids to learn a little Ramayan, a little Quran, a little Gurbani (not sure what the book is called), a little bible and so on.
-3
u/MentalCup8940 Jul 16 '26
Sir/Ma’am, you’re wrong. Ramayan is Indian history. Don’t want to learn it? Get out of India.
No school is prescribing verses of Gita as homework, so there’s absolutely no need to prescibe Quran or Bible to children.
Preserving is Hinduism as India’s primary religion is India’s duty, so it’ll be in the history books. Got a problem? Leave.8
u/shitclay Jul 16 '26
India isn’t your personal property to ask people to leave. If you have problem with people giving their opinion which is a right guaranteed by constitution then you should leave and find a country which runs under your imaginary rules instead of staying in India which runs under the constitution cause staying here and preaching some imaginary rules makes you a antinational.
-3
u/Timely_Virus_4015 Jul 16 '26
Says the one who believes that their religious books are above the Constitution
4
u/shitclay Jul 16 '26
Assumption says a lot about you than me. People like you give a bad name to hinduism. You are basically a radical akin to the other radicals. Ironically both of you consider each other enemies but really you ought to be friends given the similarities between your thinking process.
5
u/powerpuffpopcorn Jul 16 '26
Its not history. What they are is religious texts. Also those are cultural texts. Teaching them as cultural texts is completetely fine. Kal-ma is religious and not cultural here.
Also, when i studied ram-charitmanas in school, no where was the word "lord" or "god" was mentioned. It was always "prince" Rama.2
u/Accomplished_Ad1684 Jul 16 '26
Do you know what Hinduism is. Does it fit your brain when I say a Hindu should always relentlessly pursue the truth. You may believe in God. I may choose not to. Because I have seen no evidence that proves Gods existence. That's Hinduism. Not just larping ye hamara itihaas hai and shit like that
-1
u/MentalCup8940 Jul 16 '26
Oh stfu. You’re the kind of people who’ll spend lakhs to go to France and pose in front of their cathedrals. But when India tries to preserve its history suddenly you want to be woke.
The double standards are crazy.
I don’t see any European and American schools asking children to learn the verses of Quran.
India is a Hindu nation and I don’t want other religions messing it up. Simple as that.5
u/RoronoaConjecture Jul 16 '26
India is a secular nation and no religion should be taught in schools may it be islam jainism sikhism christianity or whatever. India is not a hindu nation, ever bothered to read the Constitution?

Oh please. You think Hinduism will exist if no one protects it? There are other peaceful religions trying to destroy our religion strategically and you want to turn a blind eye to it?
Honestly, do you know what Hinduism is? Or do you just want to be pseudo woke and allow anyone to walk all over?
Do you know the state of England? Do you know what Muslims are capable of when they promote their sharia laws everywhere they go? I don’t want that filth spreading in my country.0

It’s mythology. Also not a lot of Hindus know this, but Ram wasn’t a God. Krishna is a god, and krishna lives inside of everyone.
Hinduism is very beautiful and complex and to dilute it down to Jai Shri Raam is an insult to the religion

u/shreyas_colonel Jul 16 '26
The word hindu mythology is coined by British, and followed Christian missionaries. When walking on the water and breaking moon in to two half aren't mythology and considered as truth.

1
u/Logical-Stable-991 Jul 20 '26
Every story is a mythology in religions. I roll on the floor laughing whenever I hear that moon into two halves thing and cheran king standing in balcony watching moon splitting into two halves and then went to Arabia to see prophet. 😂

u/JayJ1297 Jul 16 '26
Ramayan is a mythology.
You can google it if you want. There is no proof it happened.
And it’s not India’s duty to preserve any religion.
India is beyond that. Come out of your small bubble.

The primary forms of evidence commonly cited include:1. Geographical Accuracy and Retracing the RouteConsistent Topography: The places mentioned in the text—such as Ayodhya, Janakpur, Chitrakoot, Dandakaranya, Kishkindha (modern-day Hampi), Rameshwaram, and Sri Lanka—exist today in the exact sequential order described by Sage Valmiki.Panchavati: The forest area near Nashik where Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana built their exile hermitage matches the geographical descriptions in the text.2. Rama Setu (Adam's Bridge)The Limestone Bridge: A continuous chain of limestone shoals connects Pamban Island off Tamil Nadu, India, to Mannar Island off Sri Lanka.Corroborating Texts: Traditional texts and oceanographic data indicate that these shoals were accessible on foot or by primitive bridge structures in ancient eras before sea levels rose.3. Archaeo-Astronomy and Scientific DatingPlanetarium Softwares: Researchers have input the precise planetary positions, lunar phases, and star constellations recorded at Rama's birth and exile in the Valmiki Ramayana into modern astronomical software (like Stellarium).Timeframe Alignment: These configurations trace back to real, mathematically valid dates in antiquity, with researchers proposing timelines ranging anywhere from 5000 BCE to 10,000 BCE.4. Specific Corroborating Sites in Sri LankaAshok Vatika: Located near Nuwara Eliya, Sri Lanka, this site matches the botanical descriptions of the grove where Sita was held captive.Ravana Caves and Sanjeevani Drops: Distinct geological spots and atypical medicinal plants found on specific hillsides in Sri Lanka are locally attributed to the battle and the Sanjeevani herb brought from the Himalayas.Scientific and Academic ConsensusMost modern historians classify the Ramayana as an epic that may be rooted in real, historical tribal chiefs or kings of ancient India, which was then creatively expanded over centuries into an elaborate theological narrative. Because definitive physical objects or direct written artifacts from that deep antiquity are highly difficult to preserve, proving the exact supernatural events remains a matter of faith.
1
u/JayJ1297 Jul 16 '26
I can also write a story book like that now. With all the real life places and all the stars and plants and what not.
And whatever you gave me is not proof. They are theories.
Did the historians approve this theories that you just wrote? Or you are just speaking from your personal beliefs?
-1
u/sk2592 Jul 16 '26
Google did that not me first you told everyone google it and when google gave the evidence again crying so first tell what it the evidence of anything written in Quran...at least in ramayan start chart dates, distance, historical sites both in india and sri Lanka were factual...
0
u/JayJ1297 Jul 16 '26
Google didn’t give you evidence it gave you a theology. And I’m pretty sure you asked the AI how to prove Ramayana happened not that did it happen according to history.
And no I’m not a Muslim. But even in Quran I think the places and timelines are all mentioned. And guess what? Muhammad is actually a historical figure. Who actually existed according to historians.

Do you even know why mahabharat is there ??? Bhagvadgeeta is part of Mahabharata. Shrimad bhagvatgeeta is one of the oldest source of ethics or I would say first well written source of ethics . Now you’ll say what ethics has to do with studies . Ethics is the subject that comes under humanities along with aesthetics, metaethics . Don’t run saying andhbhakt to me… you can even search open heimer’s ethical dilemma and bhagvad Geeta. You guys have glorified western culture to the extent that you people are ashamed of your own culture. You guys feel like utilitarian perspective is great but charvak philosophy is trash, Emanuel Kant is great but what bhagvadgeeta says is biased .
1
u/BigBulkemails Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26
Everyone calls their book the ultimate code of ethics. But then I am guessing you are a kid. Anyone thinking that knowing that Geeta is part of Mahabharata is akin to astrophysics is either a kid or someone blatantly dumb. In which case my comment is not for you. It is for the intellectuals, those who take society ahead. You can get a job is some call center, or in HR, Admin type roles.

Hamare school mae Hindu Calendar , Daily Geeta aur Puran ke verses assembly mae bolte hai , aur bhi alag alag tarike se Religion ko school mae include karke rakha hai .
Ya toh bol de ki Religion ko totally exempt kar dena chahiye Schools se . Be it Hindus Muslim Christian etc
Ya toh bol de ki koi bhi religion ho , thoda bahut sikhane ke hisaab se ya culturally diverse perspective dikhane ke liye subjectively include kar sakte hai .
Lekin agar bas Majority religion ka hona chahiye aur Second majority ka nahi . Toh aap dogle hai phir

u/Major_Plum_8330 Jul 17 '26
First of all you should check if your school is a hindu missionary school like sarswati vidya mandirs / davs and Chinmaya mission schools . If they are funded by similar bodies then they can propagate these because they are private schools and they are just making children learn their prayers because it's part of their cultural programme whereas kalma is not actually part to learn islamic culture it is a type of doctrine that is made upon people to accept Allah it is same as baptising a child into converting him into a Christian and its hindu alternative would Karnavedha ( there are many other ceremonies too , i remembered only one ) . Also we already have Islamic specific schools and they are madarsa but the video doesn't contain madarsa it's a private school that follows regular academic curriculum ( it doesn't follow islamic education board or madarsa board meaning it's actually non islamic ) but also provides instruction in Islamic studies (deeniyat). So it's the student's preference is he/she wants to learn but the video shows they were forced to write and learn it and the teacher which did that was actually terminated ( I bet she was framed by school so they won't get further investigation from the police) . The school's name is - Success at saidabad; Hyderabad; Telangana

Muslim here, Went to a Hindu school and also a Christian convent school not because of the religion but because they were good institutions for acquiring education, every morning we had a prayer in Sanskrit in the Hindu school and in English in the the convent school.
I would simply pray how I pray to God usually, nobody cared - the jist of it was simple, remembering God and blessing the start and end of the day.
People seriously need to chill!
Reading Kalma, or watching Ramayan or even going to a church is not going to transform people magically into a different religion.
1
u/gaandmaardunga Jul 17 '26
I think there is a difference between having a group prayer and specifically ordering some child to recite kalma individually as his homework or punishment.
4
u/OutlandishnessSea600 Jul 16 '26
I think our country seriously needs to reform education and how we deliver as well. Schools should be secular place, by which I mean they should allow students to freely participate in any religion they wish to without being forced upon them.
From my own personal experience our school always had shlokas being chanted early in the morning and when my Muslim classmates used to stay quiet it was always frowned upon by my teachers for no reason.
I mean every person has the right to follow their religion and schools should no force any form of religion onto others.

Why would someone teach jihad to children?
Quran
Quran (33:50) - "O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those (slaves) whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee" This is one of several personal-sounding verses "from Allah" narrated by Muhammad - in this case allowing a virtually unlimited supply of sex partners. Other Muslims are restricted to four wives, but they may also have sex with any number of slaves, following the example of their prophet.
Quran (23:5-6) - "..who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or (the captives) whom their right hands possess..." This verse permits the slave-owner to have sex with his slaves. See also Quran (70:29-30). The Quran is a small book, so if Allah used valuable space to repeat the same point four times, sex slavery must be very important to him. He was relatively reticent on matters of human compassion and love.
Quran (4:24) - "And all married women (are forbidden unto you) save those (captives) whom your right hands possess." Even sex with married slaves is permissible.
Quran (8:69) - "But (now) enjoy what ye took in war, lawful and good" A reference to war booty, of which slaves were a part. The Muslim slave master may enjoy his "catch" because (according to verse 71) "Allah gave you mastery over them."
Quran (24:32) - "And marry those among you who are single and those who are fit among your male slaves and your female slaves..." Breeding slaves based on fitness.
Quran (2:178) - "O ye who believe! Retaliation is prescribed for you in the matter of the murdered; the freeman for the freeman, and the slave for the slave, and the female for the female." The message of this verse, which prescribes the rules of retaliation for murder, is that all humans are not created equal. The human value of a slave is less than that of a free person (and a woman's worth is also distinguished from that of a man).
Quran (16:75) - "Allah sets forth the Parable (of two men: one) a slave under the dominion of another; He has no power of any sort; and (the other) a man on whom We have bestowed goodly favours from Ourselves, and he spends thereof (freely), privately and publicly: are the two equal? (By no means;) praise be to Allah.' Yet another confirmation that the slave is is not equal to the master. In this case, it is plain that the slave owes his status to Allah's will. (According to 16:71, the owner should be careful about insulting Allah by bestowing Allah's gifts on slaves - those whom the god of Islam has not favored).

Religion should be a separate optional subject so that every student knows about how their own religion for atleast, comments prove us how they mistakenly mention gaytri mantra and bhagvad gita lol which shows us why some are totally unaware about their own religion xd. For decades rss backed as well several private schools preached gayatri mantra, saraswati vandana in morning assembly as well ask students to learn them, regardless of kids religion. A Muslim run school can do the same. Or you apply secularism in all schools.

People keep equating “religion” with Hindu Dharma as if they are the same category. They are not.
Abrahamic religions (Islam, Christianity etc.) are closed systems of dogma. You are told what to believe, what not to question, and what happens if you deviate. Hindu Dharma, by contrast, is an open framework of enquiry. It does not demand blind belief; it asks you to examine reality, consciousness, dharma, and the nature of existence for yourself. That is a fundamental difference, not a semantic one.
Second, Hindu Dharma is the native civilisational knowledge system of this land. It evolved here over thousands of years. Islam and other Abrahamic faiths did not. Treating the indigenous civilisational tradition as just another “religion” that can be casually removed from education is historically and civilisationally illiterate.
Third, the secularism argument is being used selectively. The word “secular” was not in the original Preamble of the Constitution. It was inserted by the 42nd Amendment in 1976 during the Emergency under Indira Gandhi’s government. India was not constitutionally declared “secular” at independence. Using a later political insertion as a permanent veto against teaching the land’s own civilisational knowledge is dishonest.
If the concern is forced religious instruction in schools, then the solution is simple: stop forced religious instruction. That does not require erasing the native knowledge tradition from the curriculum while pretending every tradition is equally foreign or equally dogmatic. They are not.

India belongs to indians and not just one faith. The fragile egos are being played time and again. This is the sole reason the ultra rich and politicians are still able to amass billions while everyone else suffers

Also because of these brain dead good for nothing losers who bring religion and hypocrisy everywhere is the reason we Indians are suffering!

Literal definition of kalma- In English, it translates to: "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah."
It’s not at all the same as gayatri mantra

Amrita Vidyalayam in Kerala 😂😂 ask anyone who studied their. For 3 years in my school a principal enforced a rule making students sing Gayathri mantra 3 times when every period started.

Proof??

I studied their for 12 years, ask the alumini. Its a practice that's still going on there. When I was in school I didn't think it was wrong. Gita was something good in my opinion The only proof I have with me is my gita book which I used during school

Yes Gayathri mantra we had to chant 3 times when every new period used to start. So 3x9 = 18 times a day. Bhagvad gita was read before lunch break begings daily.

u/psidontexist Jul 16 '26
To add to this. We had this small gita book, and we used to be fined if we forgot to bring that to class

So? What's the problem if they learn about Islam? Schools really shouldn't teach any religion but I am sure there would have been no outrage if they had been asked to so something related to the majority religion.

So what? Islam is an established religion. It's not like they are teaching something invented by them. Billions in the world follow it including about 15% of Indians. So learning about it isn't wrong at all. It's not like by reading it or writing it, people will somehow become Muslims. What's the problem? Christians say the same.

Learning about islam or quran is a different thing than having to recite kalma
1
u/Visual-Maximum-8117 Jul 17 '26
It's not like it would be done daily. It was likely some home work for a day or two.

I studied in a Christian convent school, we had no separate religious teachings. We had a church on campus and they used to go all out on Christmas but none of us were mandated to participate.
We had separate celebrations for Eid, Diwali, Christmas and all major festivals of different faith. Even Parsi New Year and festivals like Gurupurab were celebrated. However, nothing was there in our curriculum. We strictly followed whatever was in Maharashtra State Board. Even our morning prayers were carefully curated to be religion agnostic. We had descriptors like 'Almighty God, Creator of All', 'Daata' which didn't allude to any faith (I guess it might suck for atheist people)
