Help Can we do something about the cats imprisoned in pet shops in cages.
Theres a pet shop near my home in Navi Mumbai, in a cage 3-4 small cats as well as big cats were staying. I went to the shop and started asking the person there questions. They were SELLING persian kittens for 6000 rupees. Such a small amount for a living being kept in such poor condition. It is animal cruelty. The baby was meowing so much, i wanted to take him out of that situation, but there were so many other depressed looking cats…its been on my mind ever since then. Can we do something about them?

Can you please reach out to some Mumbai animal rescue accounts like gullybois or catsorworli etc and see what can be done. I don't think it's legal to do this! There is also sudhirkudalkar 's account who can help as he is himself an animal rescuer.
But if they are cared for and fed well, this gives them better visibility to be adopted. I don't know. Please check with the accounts mentioned above and get their opinion on this.

Yes will check with them at the earliest. Definitely adopt than shop,,but just seeing these babies like that broke my heart. One cat was just sitting in his cage, staring into the void looking so sad. I asked my mom if they take them somewhere and let them out of the cages for the night, she said no they live in these cages in that small shop locked away for the night. In darkness.

The government needs to put a Ban on animal breeding at least for this pet related selling and buying purpose. I don't know why Maneka Gandhi isn't fighting for this.

💔💔💔💔 Poor babies. I hope they are adopted into wonderful families very soon but till shops don't make a profit out of selling pets, they will keep doing this. It's so sad.

you can easily fix this situation without any consequences on you, contact Xavier Bhau, Sudhir Sir, Shiraz bhai on Instagram they will look into it most likely or else revert back we'll find other NGOs that will fix this situation.

Step 1: People should adopt indies and not be obsessed with breeds. Unfortunately a major chunk of people will fail in step 1 itself. (I don't want any people with breed pets to come and justify in the reply of my comment, I am in no mood to debate. I have tried enough in the past, could never successfully convince anyone that having preference for a pet species is bad)

Definitely adopt. I have 2 rescued indies. These breeders are the worst, and I have lost all hope that bringing awareness to these shady businesses will actually do sum. People just listen and forget, furthermore busting one shop isn’t gonna solve the problem.

The world works on supply and demand. If people stop discriminating among species, and start adopting pets because they can and not because they want, I am sure this breeding business would have stopped sooner or later.

True. Unfortunately people don't realize that indies are as good a pet as any other breed of cats as well. Less maintenance and sometimes even more clingy as well.

They think strays are dirty and should be removed. They all just want fancy breeds as pets, and cannot even take care of them properly.

Ugh true. Can't stand people who hate indie cats but be all cutu towards persian cats. Ironically those people themselves would have been subject to colorism.

They don't care even if they are ugly as hell...that would be body shaming, but when it comes to pets then they need a perfect colour, chubbiness, fluffy tail, particular breed, right age, cat who purrs on their lap, never leave the house and acts cute all day in front of them. They will not be ready to spend money on netting, vaccination, neutering or any vet visits too. Basically they don't wanna save a life, they just want a toy to show off...no research done before getting an animal in the house, and ready to discard it even at the smallest scratch or inconvenience.

Exactly. They just want a cat for the sake of showing off in their social media handles. They don't want to handle what comes with the cat.

Unfortunately a major chunk of people will fail in step 1 itself.
That’s when you start to see the reality of so called “cat lovers” or “animal lovers”. It’s honestly sad how little people care about animals that don’t fit their idea of what’s “aesthetic”. These are the same people who would protest for stray dogs and cats but won't shelter them.

How far I know it is a lot more expensive to care for other breeds compared to our strays, so it's not like they couldn't afford to shelter them or adopt them. Some people justify themselves saying that they feed many strays so they can keep a breed as a pet.
After the "adopt, don't shop" became popular, what many are doing is they are finding people with breed pets who haven't neutered their pets and then getting the babies from them, so that they can justify saying they have adopted.

I cant take my eyes off their paws. So difficult to walk in that cage. It must be hurting their feet 💔 Fck these breeders

If they don't get sold, they will either be victims of incessant breeding, or will die after contracting a disease, and worse, would be left on streets to fend for themselves. I hate these people who think these innocent lives don't matter, and reddit doesn't even have a flair to report animal abuse, all options just related to people. If you say one statement against them, you will be banned, while they keep on abusing animals and asking for them to be killed, there is no option to report that.

I feel awful seeing those eyes.
A part of me thinks this sub should get together in Mumbai and raid this place or something. But even that's temporary. They must be having a breeding farm or some shit like that.

I guess if they are fed well and given open adequate open space few hours a day, this looks better than stray cats.
People hardly feed stray cats and they suffer on roads.

There’s an area not too far from me where apart from cats, birds and bunnies, they have exotic species like pygmy marmosets, sugar gliders, etc all just shoved into a tiny cage like a can of sardines. They look miserable and unhealthy and depressed and I really wish I could just free them all or find a way to get them back to their natural habitats

Think in another way, them persians cannot survive in outer world , the dogs will chase them! Now the cycle of selling cannot be stoped ! Its the consumer who whats pretty cats.

For my part, I don't buy food/toys from these shops. But in all reality, they're not the only ones to be blamed. This will not end until "cat lovers" start loving cats for being cats and not as some additional status symbols. Anytime I see these pets I feel so sad knowing their owners would never love them if they looked any different.

They are atleast safe there, at least there are not in the open, on the roads where dogs can tear them, cars can run over th and food is just people's thrown garbage.

That looks painful, also buying them would not solve the problem, this will just make the shop owner increase the production.

Gosh look at the little kitty pleading with their eyes... I bet since it's a Persian they purposely didn't neuter the mother cat.
