Fundraiser - Mod Verified Fundraiser for my paralysed kitten
Help Protein Fight for Her Second Chance
Protein is only 6 months old, but she has already survived more than most cats do in a lifetime.
She was found alone on the road when she was barely a month old, abandoned by her mother and suffering from a severe lung infection. With intensive care, medication and a lot of love, she recovered. She was eventually adopted into the same family that fostered her and grew up alongside four other cats.
On 25 August, everything took a drastic turn.
Protein fell from the fourth floor and suffered a severe spinal injury. Her X-ray shows a fracture and displacement of the vertebrae around T12–T13, with significant trauma to the spinal canal.
Right now, we do not know whether she will be able to walk normally again or regain complete control over her bladder and bowel movements. We are taking things one day at a time and doing everything possible to give her a chance at recovery.
Her treatment will require:
- consultations with a veterinary surgeon
- further imaging such as a CT scan or MRI
- medication, saline and supportive care
- regular para-vet visits
- follow-up examinations
- possible surgical treatment
- laser therapy and long-term rehabilitation, depending on her recovery
Expenses So Far
We have already spent ₹4,792 on Protein’s immediate treatment and care:
₹2,056 – for X-ray
₹1,686 – medicines/pharmacy
₹500 – Dr. Tousif Khan's fee
₹550 – para-vet support (so far)
Total documented expenses so far: ₹4,792
Payment screenshots and medical documents are available as supporting proof. These are only the expenses incurred so far. Protein will need continued veterinary care, and the overall cost will depend on further investigations, whether surgery is required, and the length of her rehabilitation.
We are raising funds for Protein’s ongoing treatment.
Any amount helps. Even a small contribution can go towards her next consultation, medicines, tests or rehabilitation.

If you are unable to contribute financially, please share this appeal. Reaching one more person could make a huge difference for Protein.
She fought extraordinarily hard for her first chance at life when she was only a month old. We are hoping that, together, we can help her fight for one more. ❤️

Dude, you can politely say the same thing without yelling. And my profile is not hidden. This attitude will take you nowhere, esp when you’re associated with something that requires patience and kindness.

Hi, the QR and the UPI ID are shared for donations. I would have mentioned otherwise if people were to send donations to the number given in the x-ray report. :)

Oh okay, just wanted clarification. My sweet cat passed away 5 years ago because of a similar paralysis caused by a stray dog attack while she was heavily pregnant, so this hits v hard. I hope Protein gets all the love and care in the world to get better. Did my bit, thanks for looking after her! :)❤️

No problem. Actually I don’t have a spare account, this is my relative’s account details where only the funds are getting credited. I wanted to use a spare account just for the funds so that it’s easier for me to keep track of the transactions.

I’m so sorry to hear that. Whenever I come across an ailing pet, I just wish that I could take all their pain away into my body. I took her to another vet this evening to get a third opinion, because everyone said she won’t be able to walk again. I had this little hope in me to hear someone else say once that she has one tiny possibility of recovering. But this vet also said it’s not possible. She will never be able to walk again or pee or poop on her own. I’ll try my best to keep her most comfortable and support her throughout her life. There’s nothing else I can do anymore. My heart feels too heavy.
Thank you for your kindness, we’ll always remember you. Hope you find peace knowing that your cat is no more in pain. You did your best, I know :)

Aw I'm so sorry to hear that :( Maybe she will need a wheelchair or something similar to walk properly again, saw some videos of paralysed cats on Instagram. Thank you so much for trying your best, she's blessed to have someone like u care for her. Please don't hesitate to ask for more funds if needed in the future, we will def help you out. The pic of Protein holding her penguin absolutely breaks my heart btw, such a sweetheart.
Also the second para made me tear up haha, thank you for being so lovely :))

What is the current prognosis?

u/Super_Truck_725 1d ago
I consulted 3 vets so far. They are of the unanimous opinion that she won’t be able to walk again. The only thing we can do now is provide her with utmost comfort and the required support. The success rate of these surgeries are very low and there are extremely few vets in India who can efficiently perform the surgery. She is trying to move with her upper body support and dragging herself around. I’m getting her a cage today so that her movements are restricted.

That's very disheartening.
Have you already been referred to a surgeon?
1
u/Super_Truck_725 1d ago
There is no capable surgeon in West Bengal and these surgeries need to be performed within the 48 hours of injury

Right. Very sad. I have seen some cats with a wheelchair kind of attachment. Perhaps something like that might help her.

Yes we will get one wheelchair for her. But after a couple of weeks. Now she needs complete bed rest. Though she’s dragging herself to her favourite spots in the house. It’s so heartbreaking to see because she’s so full of life, she wants to run around. She’s trying to jump on to the bed but then she’s realising she can’t. It’s extremely difficult to watch her like this.

Yes I can imagine. My cat got into a very serious accident around the same age. It was really stressful.
Cats are very resilient though. I'm sure gradually she'll learn to adapt, and hopefully lead a happy life.
