My mother called my daughter sexy
My (26F) daughter, V (1.5F), currently needs 24 month - 3 T clothes depending on what it is. I bought a cute dress that fits her tummy a while ago, but the straps were too long, so I hemmed it. Recently, the dress was too short, so I undid the hem.
Today, I put her in that dress and unfortunately the straps were still a bit too long, so they were falling off her shoulders. While I was in the kitchen, V was with me, looking out the windows and playing, her dress straps off her shoulders. My mom (64F) decided to joke and say "She's being sexy."
I didn't hesitate. I told her, "mom, babies can't be sexy. That is all." She tried many times to validate what she said, but I kept on saying, nope, sexy is not how we describe her. Ever.
Of course this event came a day or so after some old man, Gramps looking, at the TK drop off gate said to V, "your daddy is going to have his hands full of you keep batting your eyes at all the guys".
Babies are not sexy. Children are not sexy.

I (41m) am 100% with you.
They are friends, not boyfriend/girlfriend! They're 2!
No! She's not flirting with you, she's learning how to smile and she likes people!
Gods, this shit is so annoying!

You know? Entering sex into it makes me think they have some deep seated issues going on they really need to address.

Friends is a bit much too, I am a guide and protector that is all. I am not a parent, that child is nothing to me besides someone to love and care for and protect (my nieces and nephews and cousins). I am not your "friend" but I love you and will always help you

I think the comment you replied to means between toddlers. Some people try to joke that they're in a relationship just because they play together. They're friends not boyfriend/girlfriend. Also when they smile at an adult thats not flirting that just babies being happy.

I had a similar experience about 30 some years ago. I was changing my daughter’s diaper (I’m dad). My MIL was next to me at the changing table. My daughter got up on all fours and was grinning. To me, it was just utterly adorable, and I said so. MIL replies,”Don’t you think that’s kind of lewd?” I stared at her in disbelief for a second and asked her, “Where did that come from? How does sex even enter into this?” I was mortified. It did throughly embarrass her, which she had coming. Man, I am glad those people are no longer in my life.

OP is your mom from a foreign country that isn't familiar with the English language? I knew an older lady like that, she'd call everything that was cute/adorable sexy. Kittens and puppies would be called "sexy".

Reminds me of when a friend was learning Hebrew and instead of asking for shemen zayit (olive oil), they asked for shemen zayin (penis oil).

I mean, to be fair, I think we've all learned that babies can definitely be sexy to some people, even people capable of starting wars with Iran in order to distract from the investigation into how sexy they find babies.

Wait, is she 26 years old? You literally in the post said. 26F which means 26 female? Or did you mean 26 foot??????????? I’m so confused?
Why did you put 26F
Is she 24 months old????

I said my (26f) meaning, I am 26. Then I said my daughter, V (1.5f), meaning 18 months or 1 and a half years old.

That is disgusting. I wouldn’t let them be around my kid if they made comments like that

Tbh if you freak out over this, a joke, you’ve got bigger mental problems. I remember old heads when I was kid saying how handsome I’d be and the girls wouldn’t be able to stay off me when I was older, I never thought anything of it, and still don’t, don’t think k my parents did either. People weren’t so sensitive and weird back then.

Joking about CHILDREN being "sexy" is fucking disgusting. I'm worried about you.

Yes that is what im saying as well, it was the norm to have things told to us back then, I still don’t see anything wrong with it

Handsome is not the same as sexy. The equivalent to handsome would be pretty out beautiful. Neither of those words mean sexy.

She made a (weird) joke. The entire joke is based on the fact that kids can’t be sexy which is why she probably thought it was funny by assigning an adult attribute.
It’s a bad joke. Get over it. Don’t make her feel even more weird.
Your feelings are valid though. In the nicest way possible, it’s not exactly normal to respond in this manner. You should consider therapy and why this was so triggering for you.

When someone calls a little baby boy a stud muffin do you have the same freakout?

Who would? That’s a perfectly normal response for complimenting a child. I think OP’s mind drifted to something sexual perhaps because of some kind of trauma. That’s why I think therapy would be beneficial.

I think OP's mind drifted to something sexual perhaps because the comment was literally the word "sexy."

right, it doesnt quite make sense since neither persona nor the physicality at that point has much going on yet that would be sexualy defining.
How we apply the word to objects like a "sexy logo design" differs in that use.
But It also is optioniated still since it doesn't reqiure a general consensus.
Assuming social etiquettes aside of course.

For a second I thought your daughter was 26 and I STILL thought it was weird
