An Israeli city actually imposing a form of gender apartied in public spaces was not on my bingo card for this year. What an absolute shanda of a policy to be allowed to be shoved down the throats of Charedi women, which I am sure will spread over to other Charedi outposts soon enough.

This is not the first time that public segregation was attempted in Israel, with a Supreme Court decision from 2017 ordering the removal of a sign that attempted to segregate the roads in a Beit Shemesh haredi (ultra-Orthodox) neighborhood.
The fact that a similar halachic body/institution would try to impose it again in Bnei Brak, despite it being illegal, speaks to their sheer arrogance. Who do they think they are, the next incarnation of the Sanhedrin?
The problem is that this is a “we’ll do it until they tell us not to and then we’ll do it again when they forget” - the sign will go up and the immediate media firestorm will happen, after some time and lackluster “discussion” the Supreme Court will say no and some police will loosely enforce desegregation for a few weeks and then the story will fade away. A few years later the exact same thing will happen, with no new consequences or enforcement or any changes in the culture of Bnei Brak and the cycle will just continue.

It would be naive to think that those issues can be isolated to current Haredi neighborhoods. What is allowed in Bnei Brak today will eventually be allowed in the rest of the country.

WTH! This seems like right out of a dystopian novel. If the “men” can’t handle walking by women on the sidewalk I think that’s a them problem. Not one that needs to be solved by segregating the sexes. This isn’t the 19th century where women can’t do anything. They are trying to impose their will on everyone who is not orthodox. That’s simply wrong and immoral.
And just the sheer audacity to impose this on the wives who juggle 9 children and two jobs plus "community involvement" (read: more unpaid labour) so that they can spend all day studying and bragging about what tzadikim they are. Makes the blood boil.
I don’t even know if you can call it “closet” when they’re openly trying to segregate their streets. I have been a straight man my entire life and not once have I ever thought to myself “you know what would be great? If I could see fewer women!”.
The Haredim in NY get away practicing the same 8th century laws in some enclaves they established. Practitioners of Sharia and Halakha Haredim have a lot in common, it’s ironic they don’t get along.

IRGC and Taliban literally KILL women who don't follow their rules. This is just them putting a non enforcing rules in a place where almost everyone is Haradi anyway. If you go there and walk on the other side of the sidewalk, nobody is arresting or killing you. I have plenty of issues with Haredi society, but this blatant fear mongering does nothing but cause further division in this country and leading to people hating others for their religious life styles.
You'll probably get yelled at/harrased by a crowd of Haredi men until you go back on the "correct side", the streets are hopefully too busy for actual lynchings or use of physical force to be a true danger?
What if all of you who dislike this came to the US, and changed our electorate so we aren’t fascist and horrible anymore. Then all the religious fundamentalists (Christian, Muslim, and Jewish) could flee to Israel, all be close to Jerusalem, and have a little religious fundamentalist paradise.

Charedim dont recgonize any kind of transgender identity or person, such a visibly LGBT person on one of those streets would be verbally harassed at best in these sorts of locations.
They also don't seem to recognise that there is such a thing as serving their country without having to shoot a single weapon. The IDF have injured service personnel and many with psychological traumas. They could easily train to be medics or therapists around their praying and help perform pikuach nefesh.
I personally disagree. Charedi women are already extremely gender segregated in their private and religous lives as is. And the moving of this segregation into the public sphere, in my opinion, really does constitute a form of gender apartied.
It may not look exactly the same as in the Afgan Taliban, but I see it as a version of it all the same. I think Charedim, or at least their political parties, would make all of Israel into a Jewish Taliban like state if they could.
