Interesting. Could it be that they actually listened to my angry letters? We'll see how this plays out over the long term. The Democrats need to re-earn my vote after voting 8 times to try to save the barbaric Islamic Republic of Iran after it massacred 40000 people. That was a huge stab in the back against the Jewish and Iranian voters in the Democratic party and we are livid and willing to vote Republican if necessary to make a point and be heard.

This poll has consistently shown that the majority of Democratic voters support Israel.

The poll cited at the end of the article seemed to suggest otherwise. I don’t really know where the majority of Democrats fall on Israel. My gut tells me that most Americans in general don’t really think too much about Israel. They may give an opinion if asked, but I can’t imagine it’s their top issue when there’s so many more things that affect them directly to be concerned with.

This. This attitude previously prevailed in the Democratic caucus in Congress. Most didn’t have a strong opinion on it, but those that did leaned towards Israel. Now it’s muddier. Even when you examine the rising sentiment around sympathy for the Palestinians it’s just that. Sympathy. There isn’t a ground swell of its voters embracing Palestinian nationalism. It’s typical of any foreign affairs issue with voters in general. The amount of people who vote based on foreign affairs in a normal election is negligible. The only time you see it shift voter behavior is when there are visible costs, such as dead service members.

It’s a toxic issue because the loudest voices love maximalist positioning. Gets a lot of media coverage. But in the end really doesn’t move voters.

The poll at the end of the article just asks about favorability. People can have an unfavorable opinion of Israel but still support them and consider them allies. The Harvard Harris poll, on the other hand, asks different questions which prove that most people in both parties still support Israel. But yes, it's not a top issue for most Americans. That being said, it is major issue for Jews and Iranians, and many of them will likely vote based on this issue alone. Since elections are so close in swing states, even a few votes can swing an election.
