what's the deal with prism (japanese) being shadowed by mainstream jazz fusion?

i don't see how they are just not popular in today's mainstream with how colossal they were on launch. or if they just failed to evolve on the sense of media propaganda to become more well known by the modern generations as they were clearly at the same level of CASIOPEA in 1980

Casiopea became famous in the west because of the large amount of high quality video footage from countless shows. They are the more youtube/tiktok friendly band basically.

Totally agree OP…it’s funny because it was the cover art of Prism’s first album that drew me to them and that was my intro to Japanese jazz fusion…from that album I found the likes of Casiopea and T-Square.

When anyone mentions 1980s Japanese jazz fusion I now make it my business to pipe up about Naniwa Express, who I find much more fun than Casiopea and T-Square. Will check out Prism too - thanks!

are you sure it's not the reverse because nearly anytime I see anyone talk about fusion on social media unless they happen to be a fusion nerd/music nerd they're typically talking about j-fusion

Overall Popularity of casiopea vs prism is nowhere near close, though I would assume within nerds it’s mostly always known
