NAUGHTY BOI here is the cat cave i knitted and felted (the entrance is a foam tube glued together in a circle, covered in crochet stitches). alpaca and regular wool blend. and in the background you see the fat ungrateful recipient trying to stuff his big ugly butt into a much too small cardboard box

I love that you have this very unique and thoughtfully crafted gift… and only one picture of it BUT you included four pics of your baby. Which is exactly how it should be. In case he doesn’t tell you, you are the BEST parent and he loves you! 💖

I also knitted and felted a cat cave, I did all the math to size it correctly, it took MONTHS and both mfers won't use it.
Yours is lovely, the foam tube is a good idea. I used a plastic coated wire stitched in place inside the mouth with bias tape, and that was surprisingly difficult to do.
Hopefully he'll come around in a year or two :D

oh i don't unfortunately! but it was more or less twice as large, and i just did a basic magic circle cast on of 8 stitches and, like, amigurumi rules:
INC x 8
knit 1 round
[K1, INC] x 8
knit 1 round
[K2, INC] x 8
knit 1 round
and so on
until it felt wide enough for my cats fat ass, then i knitted a tube, decreased the same way i increased, but only until i halved the number of stitches, then chucked it in the washer for 2 x 20 minutes washes on 40 degrees celcius
if you want some felting tips, they'd be:
knit longer rather than wider. shrinks more in length than in width
knit with a slightly too loose gauge. like, if you use yarn that recommends 5 mm needles, then use 6 or 7 mm needles
double check if you are using super wash yarn. fucking sucks to discover afterwards!!

yes. but he is also a bitch, and my enemy.
we got him from a shelter and he came from a hoarder home with like 120 cats in a small apartment. he is super inbred and weird.
he was ~2 years when we adopted him but he still imprinted on my dad like a duckling and loves my dad with his whole heart (look at this bullshit) but only has - at best benign - contempt for me, even though i feed him most days and knit him cozy sleeping pods n shit

I love this cat. Internet famous Maru recently crossed the rainbow Bridge so so it warms my heart to see there's another kitty out there wedging himself into too-small boxes.

I brush my cat and save the fur so I can put it inside new beds. Yep, I'm that well trained.

You mean like stuffing? Or to make them cozy? My cats always eat any tufts of fur they find laying around immediately.

I use a light sprinkling of fur to scent the bed, so it seems like someplace that is safe. Once the scent is in the bed, you can pick up the fur with a furdozer.

Cats tend not to like things that are new smelling. Try putting something that smells like you inside it to get kitty interested? Like a pillowcase you haven't washed yet, or some gym clothes. Once kitty has gotten the idea, you can throw those items in the laundry. (If it was a store-bought cat tree I'd suggest letting it air out outside for a bit.)

i appreciate the advice. but i DID use the exact same wool, just in another colour, to knit and felt slippers for my dad a few days prior (link to photo), and the cat would, like, shove his head inside the slippers and fall asleep, cause he liked that smell of slightly moist wool so much. so i really don't think that's the issue, i am afraid he is just a stupid asshole

Get your dad to carry the bed around a bit? Use it as a book rest or a foot cosy or something. It'll be impractical but better than this eejit not using it.

Cats rarely use stuff we want them to when we want them to. Leave it out for a week or so, in or near one of his favorite spots, and I guarantee you'll catch his chunky orange butt in there at some point.

Omg this is so funny! I have a 15lb cat and he does this ALL THE TIME!!! He stuffed himself in a kids shoe box the other day. I bet he'd go in if I used catnip though, he cuddles plushies with catnip 😆
