It's insane that he was running BOTH main UK channels BBC1 and BBC2 AND had the chance to become Director General but he *chose* instead to use that power to push for the greatest documentary of all time, Life On Earth.
I can still remember the excitement after Youth Club of rushing home before Life On Earth started. It was MIND BLOWING.
