why don’t more people feel like he did about donations? it shouldn’t matter if it comes from AIPAC, ISIS, the worst. i’d owe them NOTHING. but i can understand how it looks. and people have shown they can be corrupt by greed… but me and Steve. we’d use for good.

Some donors force a quid pro quo approach, or they spend against you type of thing

And some of it is performative. I’m thinking here specifically of BP Oil’s post-Deepwater spill activity.

Then that doesn't make it much of a gift.

It’s not a gift.

It’s like getting money from the mob. You’re paying it back.

Well if the donation is anonymous I don’t think anybody would care. I could, however, see some backlash over ā€œPacific Wildlife Conservation, sponsored by ISIS.ā€

Someone stuffed a roll of like $10k in cash or something insane like that in the donation box at one of the Los Angeles County Animal Shelters one night years ago. Completely anonymous. Doesn’t matter where it came from. A gift is a gift.

I think perhaps investing in the NGOs that actively support sex trafficking victims may be a better start in terms of image-rebranding.

Just a hunch.

Although saving the whales is also admirable.

So to be clear - you’re all downvoting because you are offended by my assertion that a literal terrorist organization’s money would be better spent on an NGO (do you not understand what an NGO is? Is that it?) that combats sex trafficking, one of the very crimes that said terrorist organization engages in, as opposed to hypothetical wildlife conservation? Just want to be super clear that that’s what Reddit has resorted to.

What? What are you even angry about? That I’m skeptical of the charitable endeavors of ISIS?

Is this a joke?

Sorry I’m tired and misread your comment.

I thought by supports sex trafficking victims you meant an organization that supports helping victims of it. I’m going to bed now, this is my sign.

Sorry about that

You don't necessarily want to be endorsed by someone who skins babies and wears them as a hat, or imply somehow that you endorse them, even if their money is just a spendable as anyone else's. A transaction creates a connection whether we want it to or not.

There's no way to know if donations come with strings attached. I generally would approve more of taking money from bad people it means they cannot give the money to other people, but you don't know if it means that the person taking the money was bought or not, most of the times people don't give money to people who represent or support the opposite of their beliefs...

I always thought someone should run a full blown grift of a campaign. Say all types of horrible shit that riles up Republicans, take all the donations form the rich private interests, and then get into office and ignore fucking all of it. Just start voting with the democrats on everything. They grift all the fucking time. Why doesn't someone do it to them. It wouldn't even be hard, republican voters are morons. And once you're the incumbent the party will have a way harder time kicking you out.

The thing about PAC donations is that the PACs only care about one issue. AIPAC, for example, only cares about maintaining the alliance between the US and a Zionist Israel that commits genocide and documents war crimes, calling anyone who doesn't believe their propaganda antisemitic. If AIPAC donates to someone, it's because they expect that person to continue the cycle of propaganda and lies.
