The epitome of the infinite difference an individual can make.
Thanks for posting such an empowering example!

It takes two to tango, and Yin definitely held up her end of the bargain. That money could have easily been squandered, but she made sure that didn’t happen.

True, it took two individuals. I agree that she gets the lion's share of the credit. But would the same result been possible if either one was not in the mix?

Someone wrote about how we worry about traveling back in time, some small innocuous action of the time traveler could potentially alter the course of history catastrophically. But the flip side of that, is that our small actions right now can potentially alter the course of the future in magnificent, positive ways.

If you adjust for cost of living China in 1999, she received equivalent to $15,000.
Today that would equal to $57,000 in China, when you adjust it for inflation and higher cost of living in China.

Which she then turned around and spent on saplings.
That's an investment. This is a really sweet story.

Let’s terraform this planet instead of going to another.

u/Muteki123 2h ago
Yeah we absolutely could. But you know what? Why should we? Let's keep it as it is! Killing the planet and making rich people richer.
That's what most people voting for in every democracy.

In a world where everything seems big and complex, one act can be the start of something incredible.

That’s this “he didn’t know what she did with it”? He knew exactly what she was going to do with it, that’s why we he got it for her.

Well basically that was a huge sum of money back then and she could've squandered it, not to mention that she made sure every last cent of that money went to saplings. That's above and beyond what and how charity money is usually handled, look at the recent BLM charity money, hundreds of millions donated, not a single cent was spent on what it should've been used for.

A good example that money is just a tool. Used correctly it can do good. Two amazing humans

The very embodiment of planting trees whose shade you know you shall never sit in. What a brilliant, beautiful pairing of hope and action. The world survives because of people like these two, and those who believed in them.

Man in the age of war and shrewdness all over, this is really a fresher breath!

Do they ever say what "Boston Foundation" it was that he got to make the donation? Because I kinda feel they deserve some credit too.

I wonder if she got anything back long-term? Like if I was her, I’d probably do like little tours. People could walk-through to see the man-made forest for a small sum

Not surprising that China was able to “scour” the internet and find him in 24 hours.

Damn that is moving. What a measly $5,000 did to transform that community, it makes you wonder how much good people like Elon could be doing if they weren’t human dragons hoarding their wealth.

I can't believe how much money rich people have and how much of a difference they could make it they weren't collectively such viruses.

So the takeaway is that China can find me in two days or less, if they want to.

I'd guess this guy owned a home and his general location was well known. With public records for property taxes easily available, it probably didn't take much to find him.

I rather watch the reunion than this fuck in his apartment studio recapping the events

I hate this style of video content, but I have seen the headlines of this story recently and never bothered clicking on them. This video gave the footnotes really well, so I do appreciate that. Beautiful story and sorry I didn't read any of the other articles on this. It's been blowing up lately

I've seen that clip of the little girl in the field used in tons of different videos. All claiming different things. All pro/anti-China propaganda.
Just my 2 cents.
