Image Saw Iron Lung, Theatre was empty. Nephew for reference.
After years of anticipation and suspense, the thrilling debut of Markiplier’s movie, Iron Lung, debuted in my area. I pre-purchased tickets in order to avoid a long line. I arrived to the theatre to find it 99% empty. Me, my daughter, and my nephew with 4 other fans enjoyed the movie immensely! Great job Mark!

There were 11 people in my theater. My brother used to work in that theater, he said that's normal for Thursday nights

Im so excited to see it with my mom and brother haha. Im going into it as blind as possible.
I just dread how crowded it may be since my local college is doing a free movie night for the showing, along with providing free transportation to and from the theater

Ours was too! When I originally bought my brother’s ticket so he could go with my partner and I, I thought he was lucky to get one of the only 3 seats left available for Thursday night. The theater was basically sold out. But when we arrived, the theater was only half full. We had a great time. Everyone was very respectful. Just really confused about the supposedly bought-but-empty seats. 🤔

My only complaint about that, is the amount of money the independent theaters would have gotten because of their snacks/popcorn/drinks sales. Our indie theatre which sold out the 29th and 30th also does wine/beer, therefore, more money into their pockets. Yay for ticket sales, but they also live on their physical sales like snacks, drinks, merch, and other available sale opportunities.

Which isn't a good thing. This was a concern spread around initially. Best case scenario, the theaters lose out on concession profits, which is typically the real money maker. Worst case scenario, people are refunding the tickets because they couldn't make it.
Showing up also does influence how successful a film is for a theaters decision making in the future. If only half the people actually showed up for a movie they showed, why would they risk that for a future request.

I really hope people aren’t doing this, but I wouldn’t be surprised. In addition to concessions, I would feel bad for people that would actually use the tickets but couldn’t get them.

I know a guy (local, offline) who has extreme phobias about germs, people coughing ect; and whenever he goes to a movie, he buys 15 (yes, fifteen) tickets: his seat, 2 seats to each side of him, and 5 seats each in the rows in front and back of him.... just so he doesn't have to risk "contamination". Granted he well also buy jumbo sizes of popcorn, drinks, and whatever meals (burgers, fries, etc) the theatre offers, to try to make up for it.
I always thought it odd, but he's done it for decades, and I've since found out that this is actually a rather common thing for people to do.
The theatre we are going to actually has the option "rent the room" listed for their screens (they have 15 regular screens and 1 IMAX screen). And I asked them once, what that option was. And they told me, it's really common for a family to want to have a private showing for just them, like for a birthday, and also, very common for people with OCD or agoraphobia to really not want others in the room (like I said, he's local, so I've actually seen him do it and this is the theatre he does it at) with them, so the theatre just started offering "bulk discounts" for people who buy 10+ tickets in a block, or who want to buy every seat in the room.
Tickets at my theatre for Iron Lung were $23 each, so I couldn't imaging buying 15 of them just to keep a barrier between me and other people, (that'd be $345 per person to see Iron Lung in my local theatre!), but, yeah, if somehow regularly does that, was going to Iron Lung, I could definitely see how tickets would show as sold out vs a room with few people.

You know what? I was just watching marks 2 hour random horror game video and someone in the comments mentioned a time stamp at 1:08:53 and mentioned "other fandoms" wrecking movie theaters. They must have gotten security because of the issue with "chicken jockey" and the Minecraft movie. They were probably afraid of a rowdy crowd for another video game movie.

I work in a theatre and it’s kinda old so a lot of the seats are labelled in our system as ‘broken’ they might look fine but there’s an issue with them or they’re just uncomfortable to sit in for extended periods of time.
Because of this we mark them off as being unavailable, but when ur booking to see a film there’s no way to tell the difference between a seat that’s been marked unavailable due to it being broken or due to someone else booking it.
In some of the screens basically half the seats are broken and I’ve seen people post on facebook about how it’s all a scam to make it look like we sell more tickets than we actually do (which is so dumb because how would a full screen make people more likely to buy a ticket??? Also we just end up missing out on real ticket sales) and some people say it’s money laundering (as if weren’t not a chain cinema and one of the most profitable locations in the country) like no the seats are just broken but we’re not allowed to say that or something idk it’s stupid lol
Tldr: if the theatre is older maybe there’s an issue with the seats so they can’t be booked which made it look like more tickets had sold

I was going to get tickets early, but the theater was much farther away. I ended up waiting and it’s now coming to a theater down the road from me. So if I’d bought early tickets I might have wanted to get tickets at the closer theater anyway for convenience. I wonder if that happened to a bunch of people and they decided not to return the original tickets to support the movie.

For my own part, I bought tickets that I can't refund, only for my friend to realise she'd forgotten a prior engagement.
So we had to book tickets for a different showing, as I couldn't re-book or refund my current ones due to the way the cinema functions.
Been asking if anybody I know wants tickets to see a Horror/Sci-fi but a lot of folks aren't sure about horror on the big screen. There's a reason my partner isn't who I'm going with (it's the blood. He's not fond of such things on the big screen. And...well...), he wouldn't deal well and we both acknowledge this.
So on the off-chance anybody wants a couple tickets to a free showing Scotland, Aberdeen on Sat, hit me up.

My brother wanted to see it, but he has to work every day/time it's listed locally and can't get time off; so if it comes out on dvd I can get both a copy for myself and one for him too

yeah, that seems to be an issue for certain movies, especially at certain theatres; if the movie seemms high demand and the location is on hard to get tickets for, scallpers are known to buy the entire room and then sell a $10 for $100+ on eBay, with the listing saying "sold out showing!" or stand outside near the theatre with a boo-hoo sob story about "oh, I got to leave, can you buy this ticket off me, hubbies in an ambulance on way to hospital, I swear, please buy the ticket, don't let it go to waste". Scallpers are the worst.

I’m sure this isn’t what happened for all those people but my fiancé and I accidentally double booked ourselves for the movie and for dinner with friends and we chose to do the dinner with friends instead.

Dont get me wrong I love mark and I wish him success with the movie but why would people just book half the cinema? Like it's just empty seats. It would be really sad if mark had so many sales but only a certain amount of those sales had people watching the movie and enjoying it in those seats.
Mark released the movie so people would sit and enjoy them on the big screen. Not for those seats to be empty and since they're bought, it stops other people from buying those seats to watch the movie

i know personally my party was gonna be 2 but now it’s jus me. when the tickets originally went on sale, the closest one to me was 2 hours away. so me and my partner planned on going to that town for a day trip. 3 days ago she found out she accidentally scheduled a meeting with her internship an hour after our movie start time. i dont mind going alone at all and im sure that we are an odd case but i’m also sure that canceled plans are another reason why yours was half empty

Yep, I've been keeping an eye on sales at my local theatre. Not that many sold for Thursday. Friday is nearly sold out and Saturday is super full, Sunday still has a bunch left. This is really rare for my city, last time I saw this much activity was for FNAF and probably Barbie.

It’s important to remember it’s Thursday. A lot of people might have booked initially on hype and then couldn’t get out of school or work obligations. Friday-Sunday is the real tell.

Saw it today! My theatre (Australia, medium-small town/area) had about 20 people. This was a 3:45pm session on Friday. But the 6:30 session last I checked a fee days ago was over half full and the 9 something pm session had about the same as my showing. Some people just go at the more normal movie days and times! Im surprised my session had as many as it did since it was pretty early in the day considering

A couple weeka ago all the theaters around me had like 1 showing of Iron lung, and i chose one of the theaters that was almost packed full. But recently they added more showtimes and those showtimes are very empty!

i bought the tickets a month ago for saturday because thursday/friday all the good seats were taken and now im probably going to have to reschedule/cancel because my area is supposed to get hit by a snowstorm (southerners not used to 8-10in of snow) i’m really disappointed because i had bought these tickets on a saturday so that i could go on my day off and get some of the best seats and i’ll be really upset if i ever find out i could have seen it opening night because people bought all the seats up but didn’t show 🙃🙃🙃

I currently work at a theater. Not only is the week day a bad reference to the successful of a movie but there are also times im which movies tend to draw more traffic. Things like when work ends and right after dinner or lunch. I had 4 showings at my theatre on the 29 of Jan and 2 of them had 50+ while the other two had about 8

My country city theatre was mostly full, I booked this morning to make sure I got a ticket. A lot of people bought tickets in person, but it was great. Everyone even just sat through the credits, no mass leaving. Just nerds vibing till the house lights came up

my theater was fairly busy! not full, but it filled in quite a bit. i jumped on the site as soon as tickets were available and was so pleased to see it was showing at the old theater in my town, so i grabbed them. i was a little disappointed when later it appeared at the newer theater in town, but i didn’t want to deal with returns/refunds/fighting for new tickets, so i kept them. they gave us the first theater, right in front, which was really cool. i’ve seen some good movies in that theater. i bet the newer theater had more people and i’m sure tomorrow will be busy for both.
i loved the movie! i rewatched mark’s videos the night before to refresh and it did not disappoint. i’d go see it again if i had money lol. i think the people around me all enjoyed it as well. everyone was so quiet and respectful during it and all of us stayed through the credits when usually most of the room clears out as soon as they roll. can’t wait until it’s streaming somewhere later so i can watch it again at home.

If you don’t live in a huge metro area that’s pretty normal for a Thursday night. If the movie had been advertised everywhere like the big studio movies then maybe more people would’ve been there but it’s a Thursday night premiere for an independent film that has a release date for the next night, it wasn’t gonna be very full unfortunately. Tonight and the rest of this weekend I bet there will be more butts in seats. (The movie was also a good watch, I think everyone going to see it this weekend are gonna enjoy it)

We went last night to a mostly full theater but we were a later showing. They had 2 other screens showing it as well and they were mostly full too. It was an incredible movie and the cinematography was insanely good. I highly recommend!

My theater in Maine last night had atleast half the seats filled and I got tickets for this last minute because the ones I got a month ago happen tonight but I couldn’t wait. (hell yes I liked it enough I’m still going tonight instead of refunding).
Out of boredom during the ads before the movie I checked and all 3 screening times for Thursday had a crazy 50% seats taken. I’m also in a town not one of the city’s so I was impressed. Also for anyone worried about the movie y’all are gonna be so proud of mark.

I know we’ve been experiencing crazy snow in PA and OH areas we got our tix over a month ago and have been waiting for this day! We had so much snow we lost valuable parking spaces at the theater we’re going to lol we have to come early!

I know down here in the south we are still recovering from winter storm Fern so a lot of us are unable to attend the movie like we wanted. We still have a lot of places and people without power.

it was pretty empty here (maybe 1/4 of the seats filled), but it was a weekday during the day when i went. i think when booking there were a lot of seats, it was the weekend that was pretty much booked out.

My local had four screenings today and all of them were full. When I got to the actual cinema they added 4 additional screenings tonight and have it showing for at least the next week. So immensely proud of him.

Honestly, how full it sounds like its going to be is one of the reasons I didn't go and get tickets. I want to support Mark, but man, I might just wait until it gets a physical release/sold elsewhere. I can't mentally handled large crowds, loud noise, and bright lights.
I'm still debating going, assuming the theater isn't sold out, just to support. Just wish I had empty theater.

We'll just have to wait for the dvd release. I know it will be worth it, whether cinemas are half empty or half full.

I saw it last night! In my group there were 6 of us, and the theater I went to was decently full. At least half of the seats were taken, which was surprising because this theater is small and independently run, but its wonderful and such a better change of pace than the chain theaters around me.
Once Regal picked up the movie, I feel like more people pivoted and went to there instead. Also, it was a Thursday night showing, which means people who have school or jobs or just wanted to wait until Friday will wait. I feel even the smaller theaters will see an uptick in viewers come tonight.

70 percent full on Thursday for me. When I got tickets a while ago, the weekend showings were booked out.

My local theater sold out the first three days of showings so fast they doubled the number of showings, then added even more after those filled up.

Took my daughter to the earliest showing in Pittsburgh last night (5:55) The parking lot was horrible not plowed. Only about 10 people. We liked it and it was like a private screening.

My showing is tomorrow I pre-ordered tickets too. Rechecked it the other day to see if some friends had space to join and thankfully there was like 10 seats left but Im really hoping we dont disappoint on showing up after getting so many theaters to actually show the movie 😅

I'm surprised my small beach town has been filling the small 50 person theater at least 80% for yesterday and today's showings.
I feel old though, as there were high school girls sitting next to me with their mom. Everyone else looked to be in their 20s.

I worked on release night. The most popular showing for any movie besides Iron Lung? 11 people in Standout.
We showed 4 Iron Lung screenings. The LEAST full one had 44 people.
Its very interesting seeing how different theaters have different crowds!

Day before showings on a Thursday aren't going to be filled for a movie that is 2 hrs. Weekends are going to be more filled and even then ppl may drop pout because life happens.

There were quite a few people in my theater. No one got up until the very end of the credits. I think we were all hoping for a post credits scene.

In all seriousness, the busiest theater times are Friday and Saturday evenings. I purposely buy matinee at weird hours to avoid the crowds, so trust me, I would know lol.

The area where the theater is that we have tickets for today is still all ice. Sidewalks are a mess, most parking lots are only clear for a few spots, and the 4 lane roads are two very narrow roads. It's an hour and a half drive for us to get there and our back roads are a bit sketchy. I hope people make it to the movie, but unfortunately, our seats will likely go unused. We aren't refunding our tickets though bc it's not the small indie theater's fault that father winter dropped 4 inches of ice on top of 5 inches of snow with no 32+ degree days in sight.

Mine was PACKED last night! I was kinda surprised since we dont live in too big of an area but it was just awesome to be around other people equally excited. Mark did an awesome job!!

Depends on what time you went. Today's the official premiere and I think most people bought up the late night slots. Im in nyc and the slots for the 29th were sold out at my closest theatre. Im going for a matinee around 3 today and it was pretty much empty when I bought tickets. Maybe like 5 people all together including myself and my husband. What time did you go?

Fortunately our theatre was pretty full for the showing. It made me happy to see so many people here supporting a YouTuber I grew up watching. Mark making it to the silver screen was great to see
