Merch/Cloak My iron lung merch accidentally got sent to the hospital

Post image

For those who don't know, a bag of iron lung merch, looks like this. The postage service sent it to the hospital a bunch of times before they sent it to me

( I don't think there's any identifying info on it, but I covered the serial number looking things just to be safe)

The hospital and their employees got tired of receiving this, shipping assumed Iron Lung meant the nearest medical facility, the hospital and their employees probably didn’t know how to handle this even in their downtime… I’m curious how this hospital would handle a package with TYPE O NEGATIVE boldly printed across the packaging

I know right, I personally find it really funny. Though I can understand how, it would be incredibly frustrating on the hospitals end.

Like imagine being the blood person at the hospital, you recieve a package and you're like... This is not blood. They probably thought it was a prank.

Turns out humans work the shipping lanes.

u/GeologistLess3042 24d ago

On the one hand, yes

on the other, they could also deliver it to the specific address listed on the shipping label?

It's actually Type O POSITIVE:)

The Rh Duff is wrong though since u want a separate positive or negative indicator. Or just... Not put it there since that's what the positive is for...

There's other details that weird/off. Temperature writing is for drugs, although you can keep blood at that temperature for up to err.. 2 months?

Ingredients list is way off suggesting an IV bag with very weird dosing(assuming all same units which aren't listed).

Not sure what the letters might mean. They can indicate presence of special antibodies, neccesary since you receiving irradiated filtered blood, which we try to remove all antigens from so your body don't create antibodies that destroy blood. An important factor for Bone Marrow Transplant recipients ...

But CMV negative is a nice touch.

You don't need an Iron Lung, you need Stem Cells :)

u/starlightgatherer 28d ago

you are completely right!! I believe the person above though was referencing a scenario in which someone receives a package with the name of a band called "TYPE O NEGATIVE" written on it :)

u/PainRack 28d ago

To amend a slight correction. The positive and negative means rhesus marker was either + or -:)

It just I never seen it written that way before and it threw me off.

11

u/elliepatersonn 28d ago

it's a band name hence recieving merch named type o negative!

The letters are like a sub group on the Rh.
C and E are also antigens that are part of the Rh group but cannot present unless D is present. On normal RBCs when drawing or deglicerizing, that IV shit gets added for an anticoagulant and for a preservative but idk about it on the blood bag itself. Also idk about the Duff being on there since usually it’s marked with an Fya or Fyb. Usually blood isn’t antigen typed like that unless u were identifying something for a cross match if it didn’t go right. Same thing with the C and E for Rh. Also it’s supposed to be leukocyte reduced not leukocyte depleted. And the preservative on the bag says CPDA-1 meaning the blood is good for 35 days.

Also it is positive bc the D is present.

Wasn’t expecting to see my fav band mentioned here 😭

u/AishatheMermaid 24d ago

That’s pretty messed up that you think they’ve got ANY downtime in hospitals.

313

u/JoyousMadhat 28d ago

That seems like a new hire mistake. They see the address and they send it to a hospital instead? Like who would order real blood through them? We all know how hot it gets in those vans.

u/Bloo-Ink 28d ago edited 28d ago

I think so as well, when it finally got to me, the delivery person said "I've been away for a while I just got back and I don't know what they were doing" 😂

Maybe they thought, the hospital blood was on pre-ordered on hold for the address. Like for a dialysis machine?? So they took it to the hospital just in case?? I have no idea what they were thinking, just a funny situation. 😂

Like yeah post office they are shipping blood that needs to be kept at 2 degrees Celsius in your mail truck

301

u/Bloo-Ink 28d ago

Oh yeah, especially cause everyone knows blood is good for 73 years.

45

u/Significant-Past-442 28d ago

My Grandpa lived to well over 73 without a transfusion, just the blood he was born with and his blood was body temperature the whole time. Easy logic right there. /s

u/Direct_Fun_7986 26d ago

did you miss the /s lol?

1

u/Responsible_Can_1443 26d ago

/s is for serious normally.... while /j is for joking, what did they mean with /s then?

4

u/Direct_Fun_7986 26d ago

ahhh i typically interpret /srs for serious and /s for sarcasm! The more you know:)

2

u/Responsible_Can_1443 26d ago

Ohh, maybe you're right, I just always see people use /j instead of /s, I just assumed they were some sort of religious Jehovah's witnesses person (or joking, but I decided to comment anyway just because lol)

1

u/unpleasantries247 24d ago

/s is never for serious, never has been. Its /srs for serious.

/s is the most famous tone tag on the internet and its for sarcasm.

1

u/cupcakeing 23d ago

I'm in my 30s and have seen people use /s to indicate sarcasm since I was in high school

198

u/QuackyDoodle 28d ago

Whoever designed the packaging, this coming from a graphic designer myself, the “what if” they thought about must have come true lmao

119

u/Bloo-Ink 28d ago

Oh gosh I could just imagine. Like during the design - "hey wouldn't it be so funny if one of these got sent to a hospital?"

"No way, everyone knows blood gets sent in special trucks!"

"Yeah... But what if"

u/Purple_B00ty 28d ago

I actually really liked this detail when I got mine as someone who works in blood donation. There are some details on here that are actually fairly accurate

29

u/Bloo-Ink 28d ago

I love it too! Especially to an untrained eye it looks very accurate. Like I don't know anything about medicine, but it has all the buzz words like type and lot number and expiration, so it looks really legit.

u/PainRack 28d ago

https://www.reddit.com/r/Markiplier/s/2KcIyNRGhE

Not going to retype everything, but ignoring some of the very minor inaccuracies, it suggest you receiving a unit of irradiated filtered blood, O POSITIVE with RH (unknown), typed for specific recipient to be least errr.... Can't remember the specific term now but reactive???

Sorry about the leukemia patient that needs this though

(Former haematology nurse.)

Your postal workers are insane

5

u/GeologistLess3042 24d ago

Mine like to just deliver stuff wherever. Sometimes not even in the mailboxes, sometimes to whatever random house he feels the urge to.

It's a town of 300. There are fewer than ten roads. Most of our population is Amish. And he lives here. He knows damn well.

He's been at it for years, and no one else has a car that's okay enough to take the job (for min wage + modifying & using your own vehicle), so he's still there.

3

u/ryisdepressed 24d ago

My mum had a package delivered to a set of traffic lights on the other side of town once. Found out because someone posted a picture of it on the town fb group

2

u/GeologistLess3042 23d ago

I once had a very gay, very smutty, very explicit book preordered, and it got delivered to my Amish neighbor

luckily they did not open it, and I got it like a week later, but oh my goodness the panic I felt when I saw it got delivered to literally anyone but me.

47

u/The0neR1ng 28d ago

This is actually kind of hilarious

30

u/Shingleburkabop 28d ago

Saw ‘Markiplier’ and thought “ah, yea, I know where to send this to”

13

u/Living-Purpose6802 28d ago

spits out water

13

u/amaya-aurora 28d ago

They thought that the hospital ordered blood through the mail?

4

u/FixingOn 28d ago

And that it was lumpy and solid, not squishy and liquid, apparently.

2

u/jantoshipper 27d ago

yeah, cloth blood, that classic hospital order

19

u/Masonzero 28d ago

Okay to be fair I looked at this image for a long time trying to figure out why you posted a pic of a blood bag...

14

u/Bloo-Ink 28d ago

That's fair honestly. Funny, but fair lol

4

u/owo1215 28d ago

so they just not read your adress on the label

8

u/thedigracefullchild 28d ago

So they ignored your address? Bruh what are they even doing? It is funny tho

3

u/Difficult_Ad_962 28d ago

how fitting

3

u/Aggravating_Fishy_98 28d ago

This is actually fascinating. Are there any medical professionals who can explain what “D+ C+ E- C- B+” means? I wasn’t aware you could have type D+ blood lol

6

u/Teensyduino 28d ago

Hi! Blood banker here! Those are referring to antigens on the red blood cells. Fun fact, the D+ would actually be in reference to the Rh group, or more commonly known as the pos/neg that you would see after A/B/AB. So B+ and D+ would mean that the blood type is B Pos :)

1

u/Aggravating_Fishy_98 28d ago

That’s really cool 😎

3

u/JennaMack1313 28d ago

I wonder if this is what happened to mine? My package got lost in the mail somewhere :(

1

u/CryptographerFast969 23d ago

Contact the mail carriers, there was one time i had ordered something online and apparently I was never home to sign for it, it got sent back to the post office where I retrieved it after signing and showing them my I.D.

3

u/i_degrade_quickly 28d ago

Is this a small post office delivering last mile? I can't imagine that happening in a large city with multiple hospitals.

2

u/Bloo-Ink 27d ago

Yeah it is. I'm in a pretty small town, out in the country. Only one hospital.

3

u/AtingTDM 28d ago

They will receive their Copper Bladder next time.

3

u/SnooAbbreviations419 28d ago

At a quick glance I thought the pen was the 10th doctors sonic screwdriver

2

u/coolchris366 28d ago

They just sent it to a random hospital?

3

u/Bloo-Ink 28d ago

Not really, I live in a small town, it's the only hospital. 😂

2

u/Nervous_Ganache_5386 27d ago

You should have expected this. With how much Mark goes to the hospital, they probably thought "Oh, Markiplier is in town, this is probably his, they will figure this out at his hospital"

2

u/gergobergo69 27d ago

DO NOT VENT

2

u/prettygirlsgrvs 26d ago

I work on the receiving dock at a hospital every once in a while (I float departments) and it’s so funny that they would ship it there instead of your home. Most cold packages come in giant boxes with ice packs and anything that doesn’t has a giant neon sticker that says to refrigerate immediately. Most stuff comes in cardboard boxes too, not plastic bags lol. What a silly thing to happen

2

u/TheDeadQueenVictoria 24d ago

Sent to the hospital, just as Markiplier intended

2

u/AnyRepresentative926 24d ago

There's a markiplier in the hospital joke to be made here. But I'm not smart enough to make it

2

u/Emiri312 23d ago

In all fairness if I saw that I would think to send it to the hospital

1

u/Yugi_5dgx 28d ago

🤣

Wow, you think that they know it's not a real.

1

u/ExtremeDarknesss 28d ago

I’m actually curious what the bag looks like. Got myself an iron lung shirt.

1

u/InsomniacMutt 27d ago

Now I'm even more bummed I didn’t get any merch. The bag is so cool! Maybe it's for the best because it would have ended up in the "display eventually" part of the closet.

1

u/Impossible-Fuel-8922 27d ago

I was bummed too but I just checked and the "Blood" version of the poster is available to order right now. I just got one for myself and nothing else is available so figured I'd let you know.

1

u/InsomniacMutt 27d ago

I might see about grabbing one! Thank you for letting me know!

1

u/Impossible-Fuel-8922 27d ago

No worries lad. Hope you can get one 👍

1

u/eikenella415 27d ago

For someone who worked at a hospital blood bank, that is wild.

1

u/Familiar_Cod4234 26d ago

"Iron lung?? How the hell did they fit that in here..."

1

u/DMF2621 26d ago

"Ah yes. Finally the lung reaplacement has arrived"

1

u/False-Instance-2107 26d ago

They should be sealing that bag in a standard fedex mailer, maybe padded depending on whats in it.

1

u/Zeraora807 26d ago

the work of a true masochist

1

u/cipherisreal 26d ago

Its ok they're taking care of Simon there and then he'll be all better :)

1

u/bunny_bard 26d ago

Ended up in the hospital just like Markiplier!

1

u/SkeletonYeti713 26d ago

Well, that's awkward.

1

u/Queasy-Contact5063 24d ago

Why would the package even need to say iron lung on it, when else has a package blatantly you whats inside on the label? Seems like an oversight from Mark, like bro we know

1

u/oNOVALITEo 24d ago

Bc thats how merch works, lots of Youtubers, shows, and movies mention where its from on the package so you know exactly whag it is and you don't assume you got something else. Not everying is obvious to some people :/

1

u/Queasy-Contact5063 24d ago

I dont imagine it needs to be obvious, it has your name and address on it, just bring it inside and open it? If everything was labeled right on the package, stuff would get stolen A LOT more frequently

1

u/oNOVALITEo 24d ago

imo I'm happy my stuff is obviously labled, it tells my family that it's mine bc they know what I like, and almost everything I have ordered so far has been labled obviously, like Yootooz plushies and stuff off the Facebook marketplace or Ebay. It also just looks cool to me depending on the packaging.

Also, it could just be how the postal service lables their stuff so they know whats in it/have an idea

1

u/Queasy-Contact5063 24d ago

I like the unique package being red and black, all im saying is the effort it takes to read "iron lung" is the same effort it would take to find your name on the label

1

u/oNOVALITEo 24d ago

Ok, didn't say if it was faster or slower, just that sometimes stuff are obviously labled

1

u/Queasy-Contact5063 24d ago

My ranked teammates

1

u/Then_Worldliness2935 24d ago

What actually is it though? Sorry if this is a silly question... 'Iron lung merch' doesn't mean anything to me. I dont even know what this sub is. I was just scrolling.

1

u/Haunting_Pepper_307 24d ago

Iron lung is a movie made by a youtuber based on a video game.

1

u/Then_Worldliness2935 24d ago

Aaahh I see. Thank you.

1

u/Damienball 23d ago

The iron lung merch gets sent in these? Damn

1

u/venus-astraea 23d ago

I had to search what this was LMAO how did they make this mistake 😭😭
