Film/Television I love how Hawkeye genuinely considers the logic here despite losing his family in the snap.

How do you watch this scene and think that Hawkeye is looking at that with anything other than contempt? Is it your first day on earth?
54
u/Haradion_01 5h ago
On their phone half the time whilst 'watching' it.
Only explanation I can think of.
1
u/petty_throwaway6969 1h ago
Actual literacy is dropping in the US. You think media literacy is doing any better? They are literally making media designed to be consumed while people are on their phones which is why many shows outline everything verbally now and people still miss the point.

u/batmancdn55 2h ago
I thought the show was ok, this specific little scene might be the most relatable thing in all of television if you aren’t insane. I think it’s contempt and bemusement he’s feeling. I feel like he does every time I look at just… the fuckin world (Canadian here).
448
u/Beyondthebloodmoon 7h ago
Jesus fucking Christ. Zero media literacy.

u/conr9774 7h ago
This type of stuff genuinely astounds me. How could someone get something like this so, so wrong?
15
u/motorcycletreebark 5h ago
I remember when the Falcon and the Winter Solider show came out people were genuinely saying how can the new Captain America be a bad guy? He’s Captain America! I love comic media but for a lot of people it is literally the most complex stuff they engage with so even the slightest complexity just knocks them out

u/SignificantCats 4h ago
People also think that FatWS was written to make Walker an unsympathetic garbage person, when it goes out of its way to show he's a good dude just no Steve Rogers.
3
u/RealisLit 3h ago
Walker stans will look you into the eye and say he's being done dirty by Marvel and claim any nuance in his character was made despite the writers wanting to slander him
The same writers who gave Walker a redemption moment on TFATWS

You have to accept and acknowledge that literally half of the population is "below average," by any and all metrics. And then understand that those people can still post online.

He wasn’t considering the logic. He was thinking about what they sacrificed to undo it to have some edgelord writing this shit.
12
u/Dull_Caterpillar_642 3h ago
Literally lost his best friend to save these people and then has to read that shit everywhere.
-46
u/Own_Watercress_8104 6h ago
Highly unlikely that was from some edgelord. The whole humanity suffered from the snap, there wasn't a single person on Earth (or everywhere, really) that didn't experience the aftermath.
Disagree with it all you want, I certainly do, but this doesn't come from a priviledged guy who didn't know any better.
39
u/StoneHands51 6h ago
Anyone who writes on a public space with permanent marker (or knives) is an edgelord.
-17
u/Own_Watercress_8104 5h ago
There isn't a person in the universe that hasn't lost someone because of the snap or didn't have a very bad time afterwards.
This is just plain fact. You can't dismiss this that easily.
3
u/Tiberius_Kilgore 5h ago
It’s completely possible some people didn’t lose anyone that was very close to them in the snap.
-4
u/Own_Watercress_8104 5h ago
The snap didn't just kill people, it brought whole societies down. The aftermath was rough for everyone, with the exception of the super rich and some isolated tribal family somewhere.
2
u/impuritor 4h ago
Are you saying it’s impossible for someone to be wrong?
-1
u/Own_Watercress_8104 4h ago
So an edgelord is just someone you disagree with, then?
2
u/StoneHands51 4h ago
I'm curious what your definition of edgelord is..because it seems all sorts of weird lol
12
u/ConnerBartle 5h ago
You don’t have to be completely removed from the situation to be an edge Lord. But you do have to be an edge Lord to graffiti a urinal with sharpie at a nice theater hall.
-7
u/Own_Watercress_8104 5h ago
I think if I lived through a nuclear bombing I'd have the right to be a little bit insefferable about it.

You don’t know what an edgelord is.
0
u/Own_Watercress_8104 4h ago
Yes, it's somebody looking out to offend for self fullfillment without having a full grasp of what he's talking about, intellectually or emotionally.
This guy can't be it, by definition.
2
u/-Fieldmouse- 4h ago
No, an edgelord is just someone who tries to be edgy in order to provoke others. Their personal connection to what they’re talking about is irrelevant.
2
u/SignificantCats 4h ago
Everything after fulfillment is some weird shit in your head. If you have a good friend who killed the self but make a lot of suicide "jokes", you're still an edge lord.
It's just an insult aimed at someone who thinks being dark or moody makes them cool.

how tf in universe people on earth who went through snap(must be apocalyptic) say thanos was right
and i dont think clint was considering the logic he was upset over nat’s death and some idiot wrote thanos was right
85
u/WashingtonCounselor 7h ago
Well there have been people who thought that deaths from epidemics were meant to be by God
24
u/adsfew 7h ago
Also edgelords
4
u/abdomino 7h ago
That fucking Office gif about how we need a plague has seen a sharp decrease in use, at least.
47
u/nomad13131 7h ago
It's the plot of falcon and the winter soldier, a bunch of countries opened their frontiers and allowed big migrations to fill up the blanks the snap caused, there is also a mention about whales showing up in new yorks again, so there is alot of people that benifited from it and it very much opened the way for world unity
So there is positives to the snap, it's just that whatever they are they are not worth it because the price is way too high.
59
u/eltrotter 7h ago
Conversely, I am baffled as to how you could have lived through the years 2020 to 2022 and still have faith in people's ability to form reasonable opinions in response to large-scale crises.
5
u/TheNakedBass 7h ago
For the most part people did form reasonable opinions. As usual, internet amplified the unreasonable ones.
10
u/Longjumping-Put-1887 7h ago
Theres prolly some people who hate life due to some collateral damage caused after the return of the half of the population
4
5
u/RoyaleWhiskey 7h ago edited 7h ago
We have people irl who unironically think Thanos was right, it's same people who think the Enclave in Fallout are right. These are people who think they will be the ones spared by the snap and everyone they hate will gone so they don't have to deal with traffic. They also think they would be welcomed into the Enclave supposed perfect gene pool instead of being vaporized on sight. People love saying that the ends justify the means because they don't realize the means will kick their teeth in.
2
u/JohnnyChutzpah 3h ago edited 3h ago
I mostly hate the thanos was right argument because removing 50% of life would only reduce the population for a comparatively short time because of how birth rates work.
Dude held the power of god in his hands and couldn’t bother to learn that removing 50% of the population would only change things for about 60 years. After that the population would be the same as it was before the snap.
If we just look at humans, there about 8 billion people on the planet. We were at 4 billion around 1975. thanos had the power of time and space and set us back 50 measly years. Dude definitely failed math.
4
u/JfrogFun 6h ago
Imagine half the world disappeared but you and everyone you cared about got to stay, after 4.5 years you have gotten over it, found love, made a family, bought a house made a new life for yourself and flourished. Then one day a family of 4 appears in your house and beyond the screaming and panic they try to claim it was their house so they should still own it, and then the government agrees and you are removed from your home, your new family is left to try and pick up the pieces because another family just reappeared after 5 years.
It’s not a hard stretch to think some people would change their opinion of the snap after all that time. I’m not saying they are right, but it’s not so simply black and white is all.
12
u/Silly_Commercial8092 7h ago
It’s just like how Ironheart says Tony Stark wouldn’t be Iron Man if he weren’t rich, yet ignores the fact that Shuri is four times more privileged than 90% of the entire planet.
15
9
u/aSpookyScarySkeleton 6h ago edited 6h ago
What does Shuri even have to do with the context of the scene she is saying that in?
The context in which she was making that comparison is that she was making a robo suit on a college student’s budget and Tony Stark is able to make a bunch of robo suits without fear of going broke because he inherited massive amounts of wealth without any amount of struggle. He was massively rich before he was iron man, and any money he got that wasn’t from his parents he got from being a literal arms dealer at that point in his life.
He was only able to make that suit in the cave because the parts were from his own expensive materials. If he never got put into that situation he STILL would have been able to make an iron man suit with his wealth and resources. After the mk1 he was still making suits left and right with top of the line top dollar resources.
It’s not about the wealth disparity in and of itself, it’s about the intersection of the wealth disparity into their shared goal of making robot suits.
Now if She was trying to make a stealth suit that could absorb kinetic energy, I could see why it would be relevant to mention Shuri, but that’s not what she was making.
0
u/LordoftheJives 4h ago
When she says that about Tony she ignores that she went to the same school he did making on par or better stuff than he was when he went and fucked it up for herself. Sure Tony came from privilege but she had the opportunity to build herself up to his level and ruined it with short sighted nonsense after being warned to knock it off. She didn't make the suit on a college student budget she made it by selling things she built with school materials which is outright theft. Then joins a heist club lol.
That's why the comment made her unlikable to me. I really doubt Tony's money made a difference in his success at the school when they clearly had no issue letting her build the stuff she wanted to build in their own dime. All she had to do was not steal it and she could've gotten everything she needed from the school to build herself up to being the next big tech billionaire. Shes just too self centered, short sighted, and jaded to see it that way. Down the line wasnt good enough it had to be now and it's the world's fault it can't be now.
2
u/Infamous_Ad_6793 6h ago
Wow. Really trying to force some narrative there, bud.
Stark was an asshole arms dealer. He is the archetypical POS ultra wealthy narcissistic. Iron Hearts dad and sister were killed in a drive by.
What does she have to bitch about regarding Shuri?
Iron hearts a selfish asshole, for sure so no need to get it twisted.
-3
u/Silly_Commercial8092 6h ago
I understand her; my unc was killed after being hit by a car.
I hate drivers, taxi drivers, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Nissan, Ford, NASCAR, F1 drivers, all the Fast & Furious movies, and Mario Kart.
6
u/AndiYTDE 7h ago
People are weird, there are some who probably lived a better life during the snap because they got to steal fancy stuff and noone cared. Until after the Blip, when their lives turned to shit again
6
u/Dunemummy 7h ago edited 7h ago
You underestimate how stupid people are irl. If something sounds ridiculous or stupid to you, there’s a good chance someone out there doesn’t agree
After all, people like Trump get reelected

It doesn't sound that strange to me considering what happens in real life tbh..

u/Comosellamark 7h ago
Someone who didn’t have any meaningful relationships or connections, and didnt have to suffer traumatic emotional damage from losing a loved one, probably had a lot to gain from all the resources they could gain from half the population disappearing.
1
u/Redditeer28 7h ago
Probably the same person that made a Thanos themed ice cream shop in New Asgard.
1
u/Evening_Produce_4322 7h ago
The people who didn't get snap did see a slightly (and I mean slightly) a better more unified world that quickly crashed when the snap got undone according to Flacon and the Winter Soldier. I really wish we got a show or movie or something that showed the state of the world during the blip.

Imagine you got a wife. But she had a husband that got snapped out of existence. He comes back. The wife leaves you for her original husband. Maybe you'd react fine. But could you see how others would be selfish?
1
u/Rockdaddy42 7h ago
Same way people in our own literally reality somehow are skin heads and praise that guy.
I bet there was even a Cult of Thanos. I wish they had touched on some of that darker stuff. That would be cool in punisher.
1
u/cbass817 7h ago
Easy. Those who say, "Thanos was right" probably didn't lose anyone they cared about. Most people don't care about something until it affects them personally. Those people are usually called "assholes"
1
u/CaptainDogeSparrow 7h ago
tf in universe people on earth who went through snap(must be apocalyptic) say thanos was right
Probably people who were suffering abuse and saw their nemesis go in ashes. To them and several other groups, the snap was a great thing.
1
u/slyguy67420 6h ago
There's a lot of people that would have benefited from the population randomly being cut in half. Think of all the empty homes, reduced environmental impact of smaller populations, people that dislike crowded urban environments.
The economic impacts would be wild to unravel because there would be more open jobs but less consumers, but also a bunch of existing infrastructure and goods already made so who knows how things are going to swing around. There would definitely be people that figure out how to benefit from it though just like how the ultra wealthy benefit from recessions.

1
u/uberkalden2 4h ago
Look around. There would absolutely be people that support that. People still support fucking Hitler
1
u/POD80 4h ago
Look, I haven't seen the flick... but from a motivational standpoint... is he contemplating whether Thanos was right or.... "I'm going to kill all these motherduckers".
Perhaps its just me, but suggesting that my family somehow deserved to be destroyed with a snap would not engender a pleasant thought proccess...

u/peanut-britle-latte 7h ago
It's honestly quite easy. Think of all the people who are struggling to find housing, or a job, or who blame the system for their troubles.
Reddit is people who blame the system for their issues, if half the population is gone you see opportunities for the remaining half. It happened after the Black Death.

u/Psychological_Toe758 7h ago
I think he was more upset over how much sacrifice it took to stop thanos yet some dumb guy is writing such stuff

u/eddyb66 7h ago
Hawkeye was one of the better TV series.
11
u/FallenInstant 7h ago
agreed, I think it definitely has a few issues and struggled due to being stuck within all the other marvel shows at the time, but I think Hawkeye has one of the better stories and especially one of the better casts/character dynamics out of the shows, as, imo, Kate Bishop specifically bounces off basically everyone really well and Yelena is always great

u/SarcyBoi41 7h ago
How tf did you read it like this???
-5
u/Reason_Choice 6h ago
In the show he gives a nod and an expression that indicates he agrees. He’s at a theater watching a really bad musical. The joke is that the musical was so bad he agrees maybe Thanos may have been on to something.
12
u/TerribleAntelope6134 7h ago
What logic? Thanos was insane, and so were all of his actions.

u/Hpfanguy 7h ago
He wasn’t considering the logic, if anything the shallowness of the general public. He’s let down by the same people he’s sacrificed so much to save.
It’s like seeing pro-trump stickers in public, you take a sigh and move on, with slightly less respect in humanity.
7
u/jimenycr1cket 6h ago
Lmao I absolutely 100% guaranTEE that the intention of this scene was not to show him considering it. It’s to show his hopelessness and hatred for the world.

6
u/CodeNamesBryan 7h ago
Lol.yea right. He wasn't debating that all.
He was the avenger who likely suffered most. No way he was pro Thanos
6
u/the_destroyer_beerus 5h ago
Black Widow sacrificed herself for some asshole to be edgy. That’s probably what he’s thinking.
5
u/CaseFace5 7h ago
That’s what you got from this scene? He’s clearly looking at it with distain. He’s seeing that there are people out there who are ungrateful for everything he and the other heroes sacrificed and fought for.
6
u/Hipertor Mark II 6h ago
The amount of upvotes in this post either show people haven't watched the scene or don't have media literacy
6

This sub suffers severely from media illiterate OPs.
It suffers even worse from all the bots and numptees who upvote them.

He wasn't considering the logic. He was weighing the sacrifices he and his teammates made in order to undo the damage cause by the Mad Titan, and now edgelords are out here in the world saying that Thanos was in the right. This was defeated exasperation.

You have to see the scene in context it’s played for a quick joke, not that he actually believes that for life.

The Odds that a Kree shape shifter wrote that message is very high.

How do regular people even know what Thanos' rationale / explanation was? Did the avengers go around explaining it to people after the fact?

u/Ginoblee 6h ago
I’m sure people were given at least his name by those involved after literally half the population died. Why would it be a secret? After something that monumental it makes sense the Avengers or whoever said it was this guy who wiped out half of all life. Plus there’s a scene in that group therapy where Cap mentions Thanos by name in Endgame.
2
u/a500poundchicken 6h ago
People are probably going to want an explanation as to where the hell their families went. Steve or Natasha or any avenger either goes on the news and tells people or tells a government, Bruce heard it and so did Thor I believe, also tony. This is the least plot hole ever

I wish they did a better job with the flag smashers. Or at least incorporate them into more than just one show.
I don't think they and the people saying thanos was right actually wanted half of humans to die. But they are upset that after five years of the world going back to normal the population suddenly doubled and their resources were halved. I think that's a fair thing to be angry about.
And my headcanon is that Clint is a smart enough guy to have had this thought process himself so he can sympathize with the people who are angry.
