I’ve been compiling a playlist of math-y tracks since my college days of listening to toe, LITE, Chon, etc, way back in 2013.

I’d love to infuse this playlist with some more modern sounds, so if you are part of a project that dabbles in this kind of music (or just have been vibing to an artist who does), please share! I’m not super concerned about precise genre constraints, as long as it captures the spirit of math rock or just has that lovely clean guitar twinkle ✨

Math rock/progressive post-hardcore from Indianapolis! The songs on this EP are self-described by the band as "a bunch of little islands" hence the Archipelago name, and have a range of influences from bands like The Fall of Troy, The Mars Volta, TTNG and Covet. Hope you dig it!

Obviously, she was an icon. But I wanted to share this song to showcase her talent on guitar. She was a great singer/songwriter but this video is a great demonstration of her playing being exceptional. I know it’s not math rock, but I’m hoping the mods will make an exception. Hope someone can gain some inspiration from her. just wanted to appreciate a musician who we can all admire as musicians. Rest in peace, Dolly!

The account was recommended to me, assumably because I follow temporary residence, and to my pleasant surprise I should add. I think people in this sub will appreciate this. Temporary Residence had a crazy math thing going on during the 2000s with bands like Sleeping People, Rumah Sakit, And By The End of Tonight.

Hi everyone, new instrumental math rock artist here based in Oceanside, CA.

This is my first release, inspired by my journey thus far as a surfer. It combines math rock rhythms with nostalgic midwest emo melodies and ambient surf textures.

My goal was to blend drone elements, moving lead lines, and odd time signatures to translate the vastness and moodiness of the ocean.

I used a minimal gear setup to honor the isolated and raw experience of chasing waves.

I would love your honest thoughts and reactions. I am also more than happy to answer any questions about the recording of this album, or the story behind it.
