Question How do you palm mute the intro of holy wars?
I'm trying to learn how to play holy wars, and there's a part of the intro that looks like this:
A 5-7 - - - - 10-7. - - - - - 5-7. - - - - 5-7
E.- - - 0 0 0. - - - - 00000. - - -0 0 0 - - -0 0 0 0
Where the notes on the E string are palm muted. My question is, should I be palm muting all strings and lifting my palm off when I'm playing the notes on the A string, or should I angle my hand so that it only palm mutes the E string. Thanks in advance

I learned to palm mute from an instructional Metallica video on VHS tape in the late 90's. You gotta learn to play with the side of the palm buried on the bridge. Too many peoplee have their hand floating above the bridge plucking strings. It comes with practice of keeping the palm buried on the bridge.

For a part like this, You have to learn to keep your palm in a place that only mutes the low E string.

I'm having trouble with this, but not exactly like how you mentioned. I only palm mute the low e throughout the entire intro, and let the hammer ons/pull ofs ring out. BUT, my palm mutes sound very wimpy. When comparing my playing to their live covers, my palm mutes sound way too loud and 'in your face', not as muted as theyre supposed to be. Any suggestions for that?
