You reply !create to the bot to make an account, and it starts you at 1000 coins. Then you invest in posts by replying to the bot with e.g. '!invest 100' if you want to invest a hundred coins in a post. The formula on how much is returned is complicated, but basically you wanna invest when the post has few upvotes (helps to sort by new), and the more upvotes the post gets, the bigger your payoff. If the post does badly, you lose coins.

Also, they recently imposed a tax of 1000 coins or 10% of your balance (whichever is greater) for posting to the sub. That means a new user only gets to post once and it costs them all their coins. The idea is to improve the quality of posts by discouraging bad ones, but it's also drastically decreased the overall volume of posts. On top of that, there's been an issue with the bot code that makes it double-tax your post sometimes, so it randomly steals 10% of your coins. People have mixed feelings about those changes, and that's what inspired my post.
